Wes Brown was also sent off about 27 times last season!!

Got a clean sheet in 40% of their games last season.

Terry , Kos , Mertesacker & Cahill all range from 45%-53% but cost a lot more.

Anyway I'm not advocating buying either Brown or O Shea just showing there is other players with better defensive records for the same price.

I'll be stocking up on 4.5 defenders the likes of Newcastle Sunderland Swansea burnley Stoke defenders have some decent first 8 fixtures and if u pick 5 of them most weeks it's easy enough to have 3 with decent cs potential. I'll be spending between 22 and 23 on my back 5 and going big on my attacking players.

I'm not understanding the Vlaar love. He had a great world cup, but he's playing for Villa. The other 3 defenders are shíte. He'll lose his cleansheet bonus nearly every week. Waste of 4.5m if ya ask me.

Okore was out for all of last season bar (I think) 3 games. He back this season and if definitely much better than either Clark or Baker (not hard!). I'm suggesting Villa will suddenly be keeping clean sheets in every game, but it should strengthen Vlaars appeal slightly from last year.

Yeah this is pretty much my strategy. I might have 1 6.0 or 5.5 defender. But the rest will be 5.0/4.5/4.0. All I'll be picking 2 of those 4 based on fixtures to make up a 3 man defence.

    Will be playing 3-4-3

    GK Krul/Mannone - can't see a better 9 million combination.

DEF Shaw and any other 2 from 4.

MID Strong mid - replace Traore with a confirmed 4.5 million player.

    STR Happy with striker options.

I usually wildcard at international break, which will allow me to bandwagon/ensure 15 players play regularly.

    Any thoughts/opinions on this team?

    First draft. All opinions welcome:

    De Gea - Myhill
    Filipe Luis - Davies - N. Taylor - Vlaar/Collocini - Wisdom
Hazard - Sanchez - Eriksen - De Jong - Siggy
    Rooney - Dzeko - Austin

Aim is to set up for the first 3 weeks, at which point I may or may not WC! (I usually WC during the International break - its worked 2 out of 3 years)

Looks good to me. Not sure about having 4 defenders 5 mil or more though. Leaves you with a dilemma who to pick. I'd downgrade Janmaat.

Valencia I wouldn't be so sure of but worth taking a punt.

Janmaat to Vlaar would be a move maybe. It would free up 0.5 to upgrade Valencia to Pelle maybe.

I'd be looking at Wickham, Long, Jelavic and Austin at 6 mil before any of the lads just above tbh.

Why do so many people have Dzeko? He's by no means a guaranteed starter, even with Negredo being injured.

City often played with Aguero up top on his own last season with Nasri, Silva and Navas in behind.

Austin or Long would be my choice there but not keen on any of them really but needs must for 3-5-2

Aguero doesn't seem to be able to kick a ball out of his way at the minute... Dzeko got 16 goals and 8 assists last year finishing the season very strongly, hard to see him not being very important to their early season but Charity Shield should tell all....

First glance I like the look of your team, would prob have 3 different subs tho.

A lot of your players while look good, are only new players into their teams. or are unsure of their roles/positions so maybe one or two solid players or subs to back up a solid new look team

    If your going 3-5-2

    Janmaat - S Taylor ( New ) and free up 1M

    and upgrade Albrighton

Have to say I think at season start he is guaranteed start, his form at season end is why city won the league. And with aguero misfiring and looking very leggy and tired think early on will be the pace setter before he fades away

Taylor was in there already I think, fear he may not be a starter though.

I like it pretty similar to what Im at apart from me fitting in sturridge for your Austin and saving that money by going without eriksen and luis. Also know Ill wildcard in one of the first 2 int breaks.

Yeah, was thinking Luis could wait if I WC early. With Lallana out Remy might be worth a shot for 3 weeks. One to monitor in pre season anyway.

Doubt it. I'm not sure what wing Chambers plays but Arsenal have Gibbs/Monreal on the left and Debuchy/Jenkinson on the right.

    I think he's right wing.

Right yeah. Bbc reckons Jenkinson will go out on loan. Biggest point of this transfer may be that Debuchy might be liable for more rotation.

New draft. it's going to be a long three weeks!

    Krul, (Myhill)

    Davies, Shaw, Vlaar, (Bruce, Upson)

    Ramsey, Eriksen, Fabregas, Mata, (Albrighton)

    Sturridge, Dzeko, Giroud.

Should I be investing more in defense?

kinda doubt it, seems a weird one to me, he's highly rated obviously, i don't think Wenger trusts Jenkinson, so a signing for the future me thinks, backup to Debuchy presently and can play both lb and cb from what i've read so versatility too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,118 ✭✭✭✭dahat

And again....... 5th mid is De Jong but could change to Barkley or Herrera even. Dropped Davies from defence but now worried over Debuchy with Chambers signed up.

You know it's a quiet Saturday night in july when you enter your first FPL team of the season. Here it is. Don't hold back...I'm sure there are some awful choices!!

    De Gea (Green)

Filipe Luis, Lovren, Ferdinand R (Upson, Wisdom)

    Sanchez, Hazard, Mata, Ince (Kightly)

    RVP, Remy, Wickham

From a first glance seems that Sanchez (esp as MF), Hazard and RVP are must haves. Picked Remy and Lovren assuming that their moves to Liverpool go through. Not convinced by supporting cast at all though!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 629 ✭✭✭PurpleSt4in

Worried I may be far too bare in defense.

Reasoning behind is to try to structure myself to have one of the biggest point scorers from each City, Chelsea, Arsenal, United, Spurs, Pool (provided Remy signs) & siggy in my team!

Fancied Aguero/RVP but god knows how their seasons will start! Too uncertain for the price tag imo.. (at the moment) I reallyyy think one of the Spurs strikers is going to be on fire... just must wait for preseason friendlies to see! Some midfield behind, with Pochettino in charge too! Adebayor/Soldado could be bargains, happy with Eriksen for now though!

    Thoughts?

And I've already changed 8 out of the squad. I'm defensively suspect but my midfield makes the mouth water, with a solid attack.

    De Gea (Elliot)

Filipe Luis, Davies, Marriapa (Wisdom, Targett)

    Sanchez, Hazard, Mata, Eriksen (Albrighton)

    RVP, Remy, Bent

GKs: Subscribing to the idea of keeping it cheap as possible with reserve keeper. Went with Elliot as I have heard from Newcastle supporting mate that they would be happy enough to listen for offers for Krul and use Eliiot as no 1.

Def: Really gone against spending big on defences. I've got Luis who I think will be regular at Chelsea and will be the most solid defensive team. Davies seems good value assuming he starts at Spurs. The rest are interchangeable and I will have to look at which teams rotate well etc. I'm happy having a palace def in there though. Wisdom could be one of the bargains. Don't know much about Targett, to be honest. As a Villa fan, I dont get the Vlaar love in. He starts every week when fit, but has been plagued with injuries, not to mention how many we concede.

Mid: Not much to say here, except I think the starting 4 will be the main men for their respective teams. Sanchez as a MF with Arsenal's current strikers and Walcott out at the start looks like he could catch fire immediately.

For: Very confident RVP will bounce back this year under LVG (as will Man U) especially with no Europe. I'm too scared not to put in Remy as he always scores by the dozen when I do. I seem to be the only one to have considered Bent. At 5m he could be a steal. Villa are going to be shocking this year, but it looks like we will be starting off with Bent up front and if he plays there is a good chance he will score.

In sum, I'm gambling on a few big players delivering, of which a couple are going to let me down. But I figure go with them from the start, then downgrade to the ones who start on fire, rather than try to pick them from the pack based on no current form.
