Well ive cancelled sky and ordered eircom up to 24mb, they estimate minimum 15 mb and most likely 18mb,atlast uncontended broadband.

Great! post a speed test result if you can when you'll get it all activated ;) And btw do you think those speeds are achievable 1 km from the main Monasterevin Exchange?

I'm 600m from the exchange , the experts in here reckon my stats suggest I should get 18mb eircom guarantee 15mb,time will tell.

Monasterevin is listed under phase 5 of the roll out , although no completion date is shown , any sign of activity in the area?

Mountmellick is in phase 5 also but no date against it, but it doesn't stop me hoping that I'll see some work on one of the three cabs I pass each day on my way to/from work some time soon!

If we are lucky I'd imagine it will be well in to next year before this happens.

Just to update on this,im getting download speeds of 15-15.5 meg 15400 kbps to be precise.
Apparently they installed 15mb cards in the exchange yet charge us for up to 24 mb.
My line stats when compared to online guides suggest i should be good for 19-20mb so its frustrating to think the 15mb cards are a bottleneck :(
However im more than happy to be getting 15mb after so long on 3mb.

    See this thread

    Fiber cant come quick enough.

Fibre coming to Monasterevin mid July! Up to 100mb download and 20mb upload. Called vodafone today to enquire and the guy said they were upgrading the 15th and to call them on the 17th to order and get connected ;)

    Hi all,

Finally after the long wait since starting this thread, eFibre is here. I'm approx 220m from the cabinet with Vectoring VDSL technology enabled giving me the following results

Hope it is as good for everyone else around! ;)

How did you get it so fast?

Vectoring is on or it isn't, you don't request.

Is that at the cab and would it be specific cabs?

mac.book what cab are you near?

I'm working Monday to Friday in Dublin, got my eFibre installed on Wednesday, I live in Ferns Bridge btw. Anyway, I called home to run speedtest and they told me 64Mb down and 17Mb up. I arrive back from Dublin today, went straight on my desktop (ethernet connection to modem) and this is the result I get ;)

Vectoring is technology which is installed in fibre cabinets to help reduce the crosstalk on the copper VDSL 2 connection between the cabinet and your home. This allows the boost from 70Mb to 100Mb. You cannot request it, the cabinet either has it or not. But since the cabinets were only recently installed in Monasterevin, I assume all should have this technology enabled.

Also if you're testing over Wi-Fi you probably won't get over 75Mb/s

Cheers for that,I won't be home Wednesday so I hope a friend letting the engineer in won't be an issue.

I'm approx 220m from Ferns Bridge cabinet. If you're 100m from it you'll be looking at near 100Mb and 20Mb ;)

Also since on Wednesday I was on 70Mb sync and now I am on 100Mb sync. I assume they enabled vectoring a little after enabling the cabinet for the first time. If your cabinet is live since Wednesday then you'll probably get 100Mb sync straight away.

Best of luck and let me know what you'll get ;)

I'm about 100m from the supervalu cab,I just hope the engineer installs when my friend is on hand to give him access, hope he doesn't require me to be there.

No worries shouldn't be a problem, it's not like they're going to ask for you ID. As long as someone opens the door for them and welcomes them in for the installations you'll be fine. You'll get at attachment on your eircom socket and a brand new standing Zyxel modem.

It has a very familiar interface. To access it just type in your default gateway, i.e. 192.168.1.254, login is "admin" , password is the default Wi-Fi password printed on your router.

Hmm not bad but this close to cabinet you should be getting 97 - 100Mb/s. Possibly the vectoring tech is only enabled after a few days, check your speed tomorrow evening again and see what you get then. On Wednesday last week I was told that we were getting 64Mb/s down and 16Mb/s up, then when I actually tested it myself Friday evening, I got 94Mb/s to 98Mb/s down and 16Mb/s to 19Mb/s up. Also can you tell me what your line attenuation stats are? You can find them on the main page of the router config. If I remember correctly my line was ~12dB Also under the 'System monitor' menu of the router you can run a test which will tell you the maximum attainable speed on your link, for me its 132Mb/s down, can't remember max attainable up speed.

    Best of luck ;)

Attenuation is fine, and attainable speed also. I'd say you'll be bumped up to speeds around 100Mb by tomorrow. If not you can call eircom on Monday and explain the situation to them, you're paying for 100Mb after all ;)

That looks dreadful, any idea how far from your house is the cabinet? VDSL2 is great but the speed drastically drops when you're more than 300m from the fibre cabinet. By your stats I assume you're within 600m to 1km from the cabinet?

Try running the same tests as Dcully, just login into your router and under system monitor tab run the test, then post your relevant results here, most importantly the highest attainable speed and line attenuation

Must be a fault on the line, definitely get onto eircom support so they can run some tests for you. Might be a poorly spliced cable, faulty hardware or anything of this kind. Unless the connection to your house is that far away.

    Here's a chart for reference - fttn-speed-graph.gif

Just got off the phone with an engineer and he has informed me that the lines coming into Saint Evins are very badly degraded. So I asked can anything be done to sort this out and he just said "god no"..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

You'll manage 30/10 on that current sync.

Was it the KNN fella you called back? He wont have the authority to say a main pair needs replacing, you need an actual eircom tech for that.

Well I am not sure...he just said he was an engineer that works in the area and that the situation has been brought to his attention.
