    Can Raf speak Spanish? :pac:

Brazilian Portuguese is similar to Spanish, it'll do for my fiction!

I'm just being pedantic. I understand that they are broadly mutually intelligible. Although I speak neither so can't confirm!

    Vidal will be signed

United will offer him nice wages and he will hand in a transfer.

He wants to join United and we want him to join. simple

The fact that Rooney could take issue with it is what's important since we're talking about Scholes' ability to coach the team that Rooney plays on. And it doesn't matter if the points Scholes made were fair (I don't agree that they were, but that's not important). What matters is whether they were the best possible things to say to get the best performances out of Rooney.

A pundit's job is to objectively criticise players and their performances. A coach's job is to get the best performances out of the players. That will often involve being completely non-objective when speaking publicly about them. So there is a clear conflict of interest there.

If you're right then it's a bit strange that LVG would even consider hiring him in any role at Utd.

Personally I think Scholesy was absolutely right in what he said and he was right to say it. Rooney needed a public reality check from someone respected at the club and in a position to make a comment without the club being responsible for those comments, as they might be if Giggs or another permanent member of staff had made them.

We'll see what happens but I suspect LVG appreciated Scholesy being blunt and telling it as he saw it.

Prefer having someone around that doesn't just coddle Rooney, and pander to his ego. If Scholes is anywhere near as intelligent a coach as he was a player, he'll have a lot to offer the young players.

Now that his move to Arsenal seems to be going bust, Khedira for 20m?

I read earlier that it was going bust cause he wanted a move to Chelsea, so wouldn't be massively up for trying to get in the middle of a bidding war for a player who'd prefer another team.

Not, mind, that will stop the journalists trying to spin the story...

Arsenal and Chelsea already have plenty of midfielders. Greedy gits.

    Like United with number 10s

Surely the fact that our current fully fit MF line-up consists solely of Herrera, Cleverley and Fellaini has to mean that some CM signings are imminent. I'm all for Louis waiting to see with his own eyes what certain players are like, but with our scarce MF that shouldn't take long.

I didn't include Fletcher because he probably hasn't the fitness to play week-in, week-out.

We have possibly the 'easiest' start to a season coming up that we've had in years in terms of the first 5 fixtures, a real chance to propel us up near the top of the table from early on in the season. I seriously hope that all that can be done is currently being done in terms of securing new genuine talent for our still-declining MF.

It has been said that his knee surgery was rushed before the WC and United may be wary of his long term fitness.

And here was me thinking he wasn't going because he's a total waster.

i would expect that our next two signings are defensive ones which is disappointing considering our main problems last year were from midfield up - i still think that until the midfield problems were sorted, we should have went all out to keep 2 from Vidic, Evra and Rio for another year.

no way we will address all our issues in one summer, theres too many there to solve and too much money has already been spent.

I would be happy with 2 defensive midfielders plus a lindegaard type signing at lb and a decent cb.

So, Juventus off buying more players today. Roberto Pereyra, Carlos Blanco, and now rumoured to be offering 18m for Lukaku...

You know, what Conte said just doesn't add up to me. "It will be difficult to keep winning with Juventus"

They've won Serie A 3 out of the last 4 seasons, currently have one of the best midfield line-ups in Europe, and are adding decent players to the team.

The quote only makes sense if he believed he would lose one or two of his best players.

    True.

Van Gaal said what Moyes said last year, I wanna see the lads I have first and then I'll see if I need anyone in; although there is the existing 'list' from which Shaw and Herrera were chosen.

I'd be surprised if no member of the Dutch WC squad was signed.

A monacon friend of mine (he is in NO way itk or an insider! ) told me his local rags ran today that Monaco acknowledged two bids for Rodriguez. Utd at around €60m and Madrid at €70m. I can't see utd even being in the game for him. It was from the French version of the daily fail. I'm just really interested in seeing which papers in England have been Google translating this, and if the same numbers appear tomorrow or Sunday, as an 'exclusive'!

When he said that it was taken that he was referring to the Champion's League.

As in he was won 3 scudetti improving league performance year over year to record breaking levels and sees a European Cup as the only thing left to do. But he doesn't feel this will be possible without significant investment, something the board were seemingly unwilling to risk (we'll see how they cover their outlay this Summer ;). )

He didn't mention CL so I wouldn't take it as meaning that.

And must a manager quit if he doesn't think he can win the CL? That's a poor excuse IMO. Most top sides go years without winning it.

Professionally, you need to be able to identify if there is a ceiling or not. If he felt that he had achieved all he could at Juvi and thought he could achieve more elsewhere, then fair play to him and best of luck.

Take it as whatever you please then.

But he was basically complaining that the only way was down for Juve unless he was allowed to shop for world class quality. i.e. he couldn't keep finding new ways to win the league better when he had already won it unbeaten and then gone and won it with record breaking points totals.

    There nearly was no Ronaldo...
Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro has unveiled that she wanted to have an abortion when she was pregnant.
She made this startling confession in her autobiography titled ‘Mother Courage’ and also admits to the fact that her doctor had refused to intervene after she took measures to terminate her pregnancy.
“I wanted to abort but the doctor didn’t support my decision,” she disclosed in her book.
Aveiro claimed that she drank warm ale (warm beer) and “ran till she dropped”, without succeeding in the attempt.
Though Portuguese footballer wasn’t present for the official launch of the book owing to his work commitments for his club Real Madrid. She also said that the football star was already aware of the attempt to abortion and Ronaldo sees the lighter side of the picture.
He told me when he found out, ‘Look mum, you wanted to abort and now I’m the one who’s pulling the purse –strings in the house.”

Good thing she failed and Ronaldo was a fighter from the beginning, he brought so much joy to United fans, still dream of him returning to United some day...

Maybe so. Fergie should have quit united back in mid 90s.

€60 million could get us two midfielders we really need.
Let's hope we aren't really in for Rodriguez.

Fergie's situation bares no comparison to what Conte was talking about

Fergie was allowed to go after big money talent and pay players huge wages, all in an effort to try and win the CL...........
