8m, good quality, adds a bit of bite in a position United are short, happy out provided the extra money is used for back 4 cover. Get the Stroot-man in January or next year.

8m for a midfielder who, realistically, would get into our first team right now? Grand.....

He says the training ground is too windy and open.

He said he doesn't like how windy it is at Carrington and it affects training, so now it's going to be upgraded.

Don't think Strootman will leave that Roma team mid season when they could be top in Italy and still in the champions league. They have a seriously talented team and a very good manager

If the idea is to get De Jong and wait for Strootman in January it is a risk

Hoping for Vidal or at least another good midfielder added this summer

'The (training ground) needs some more intimacy and I have asked (for that) already,' Van Gaal explained.

I've been thinking about Strootman since the press conference yesterday and I think when he said he will wait 3/4 weeks he could be waiting that to see how Strootman is recovering and if it would be worth the bid in this window.

If Vidal can't be got, I would be happy with De Jong and Strootman and would trust LVG to make the decision on Strootman fitness.

This is like chasing Kate Upton, but settling for Fiz from Corrie instead.

Strootman won't be fit for first team football until October or November.

With respect lads the world of football is a lot bigger than Vidal and Strootman.

I think Van Gaal will put the side and squad together that he needs and we know he can look further than the two names that keep cropping up.

Strootman probably wouldn't be attainable until next summer anyway. Realistically
Vidal is gonna be a tough player to get. But the club should try to get him.

It is, but when your on the hunt for a top drawer box to box player, someone that can stamp authority on a big game ala Keane then the list does indeed become short.... Then consider possible availability then it decreaces further!

So it's understandable and logical to see how we have arrived at the point of Strootman and Vidal

hang on now, considering the options are fletcher, cleverly and anderson, thats not exactly saying much is it?

De Jong would do a job, but i think if we sign him thats it, no more midfielders bought and that would be really disappointing as it would not solve our goal scoring/creativity problem from midfield.

its shaping up like two low cost signings will come in (for example Vermaelen & De Jong) and a back up full back.
Nah, De Jong wouldn't mean we're not signing another cm.

id be pretty sure that if we sign De Jong, thats it in terms of midfield and it would then suggest LVG is holding out for Strootman in 6-12 months.

theres 2 more defenders needed, no way 4 more players are coming and if a 4th comes, i think it would be a winger and not a midfielder but i am happy to be prooved wrong here.

Would you rather 8m on someone who'll do a job or another season of midfielders who won't? This thread.

The problem is Joey Barton would do a job in our midfield

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,320 ✭✭✭v3ttel

De Jong and Herrera would complement each other nicely I think. £8 million would be an excellent deal if true.

the answer to this is quite obvious, seen as midfield has been our weak link for several years, people would expect adequate reinforcements there as opposed to short term fixes.
The problem is Joey Barton would do a job in our midfield

this is the harsh reality. Even Darran Bloody Gibson would be an upgrade on some of our players and Everton got him for £2 million and theres plenty of average players from world cup squads whos be got cheap and be better than Fletcher or Anderson.

and just to be clear, the reality is of course, none of these players im talking about are anywhere near good enough for United, just our options are so poor, that anything is a upgrade but i dont think a club of our size should settle for 3rd or 4th best option.

I vaguely remember reading when Carrington first opened that the land it's on has some government regulations on it regarding national defense. The land needs to be left that it can be turned quickly if needed into a military base. Because of that, they couldn't install under soil heating of put permanent goal posts in. Will that restrict what can be done re the windy pitches?
Or did I imagine all that?

I think i see what you mean. Vidal would be a inspirational buy but De Jong could still do a job:P

We can agree that a steak is better than a burger, but a burger will do the job when your hungry....

Im sorry for my terrible metaphors :P
