In all seriousness though De Jong for £8 million is a great deal if it is true. I know he's around 29 now but a solid player who I imagine could be relied on.

I know Powells future is still unknown but I see him as the future of the midfield, and now with Herrara in maybe in a few years they will be the centre partnership. But for now if we brought De Jong in to cover for Carricks injury I would be very happy.

If you're right then it's a bit strange that LVG would even consider hiring him in any role at Utd.

Personally I think Scholesy was absolutely right in what he said and he was right to say it. Rooney needed a public reality check from someone respected at the club and in a position to make a comment without the club being responsible for those comments, as they might be if Giggs or another permanent member of staff had made them.

We'll see what happens but I suspect LVG appreciated Scholesy being blunt and telling it as he saw it.

Yeah, with 19 goals and 15 assists while playing out of position in a team where everybody around him was going to shīt and 7 goals in 6 appearances for England in qualifying, again while playing out of position, he really needed that reality check. He needs to know if he doesn't buck up his ideas and start trying his career will be over by the time he's 31.

James Ducker yesterday on MUTV 's United in Press said what he has been saying, that United have not moved to sign Vidal, he said all the stuff is coming from Italy and Chile.
Though he did say the club could be saying one thing and doing the opposite, but he can't say they are as he doesn't know.

Supremely talented teenager arrives on the scene. British media go wild, see him as their saviour. Continues to improve. Gets big money move to man utd. Hits the ground running. Media hype him up even more (the white pele). Goes on to win everything at club level. Has some off the the field troubles. Club and country come to depend on him, start to play him in different positions to make up for overall lack of quality in the team. His form takes a dip. Media turn on him because England are still sh*t. Public become brain washed by the media witch hunt. Even gullible united fans begin to dismiss him. Someone on boards recommends shipping him out in favour Cavani.

Its actually fascinating from a psychological point of view.

Just realised I havent turned on the tv in my bedroom since last season.

Normally the Saturday early match gets watched from bed while the wife owns the downstairs tv to catch up on Hollyoaks.

Hurry up new season. Would you ever start for fook sake.

P.S. Live Ufc on 3e tonight from 8. Watch it.

It's on BT aswell though? Would rather not be watching it on Lego definition tv. :)

hang on now, considering the options are fletcher, cleverly and anderson, thats not exactly saying much is it?

De Jong would do a job, but i think if we sign him thats it, no more midfielders bought and that would be really disappointing as it would not solve our goal scoring/creativity problem from midfield.

its shaping up like two low cost signings will come in (for example Vermaelen & De Jong) and a back up full back.

All I'm saying is that if we go into the new season with Herrera and de Jong as our midfield duo, I'd be more than happy. Could we do better? Possibly, but those two provide us a solid foundation upon which to build.

    Realistically, we currently need (imo)...

First Team CM - (Possibly de Jong)
Backup LB - (Based on Evra going; we cant start the season with only a single LB, and a kid who has never played for us at that).
Center Back - (Not sure what level we could get here; would depend on LVG's opinions of what we have. Need at least cover, possibly first team.)

That's three players right off the bat that we NEED. We can't afford, most likely, to spend a fortune on all three, and I'd personally rather de Jong in at 8m so we can splash a bit on a central defender.

After that, we could also do with...
    Another CM
Possibly a winger (our current options aren't great, and we could see Nani and Young heading off soon).
    A backup option for RB.

So that's six players we could and should be looking at.

A lower priced CM like de Jong would give us a boost in ability to spend elsewhere. You're the very one who leads discussions down the path of "Does spending X on one player stop us spending Y on another". 8m on de Jong would provide us with a new first team duo in midfield which would be a very stable base going forward, and let us use money elsewhere to better effect (right now, I'd say CB is nearly as big a problem as CM).

De Jong for 8 million would be the best piece of business in years value wise.

You gave out Woodward spent all summer chasing Fabregas and it cost us other targets.

Now your moaning we could pick up Milan's POTY for 8 million and would improve the first team.

Nobody said they would be happy with just De Jong but he would be a very good signing.

L'equipe are reporting that at long last FFP is putting PSG's spending on hold. They can't sign Di Maria or anyone else without selling first. So much for them saying they can do what they want.

Pastore, Lavezzi, Lucas, Verratti & Cavani mentioned as the players that could be up for sale.

I'd be happy with Lucas Moura and Veratti and they're a lot more gettable than the likes of Vidal and Di Maria. That's if there is anything to that article.

The squad looking very professional on Santa Monica.Memories of the Fergie era where players were expected to give a top impression of United when on club business.

So you say that nobody would be happy if he was our own cm signing, but when i say this i am moaning?

I can be pretty sure that if everybody was asked to pick 10+ midfield players in May who they would like signed Herrera and de Jong wouldnt have been near it yet all of a sudden they are the answers to our problems.

Still a massive improvement but that is not saying alot. Why should we settle for second best options? And why you singling out my post when theres others who are saying its not a great signing.

Id be happy with it if he was cm signing 2 of 3 but i cant see us signing another CM due to the need elsewhere.

It'd put an end to the likes of Toure strolling through our midfield.Remember that our main (only) DM is Carrick who doesn't tackle and is 33.

Get De Jong for 3 seasons and have Vidal & Herrera in front of him,we'd have an awesome midfield opposed to the gaping chasm we had last season.

    Rooney

    RVP

    Boner Alert!!

I don't like De Jong. He can be a very dangerous player and wreckless in the tackle.

Would I like to see him signed? Abso-fcuking-lutely.

    As the old saying goes "he might be a ***** ******* ****** of a ******* but he's OUR ***** ******* ****** of a *******"

8 million would be peanuts for a player who would improve the first team 11 would be great business. He is no world beater but he would make a big difference.

They look like promo shots for some designer menswear shop.

The barring a few absentees like RVP, Hernandez and Fellaini we pretty much have a full and fit squad, would be interesting to see the developments over the US tour with LVG and how he'll set the team up.

This is probably the most I have ever looked forward to a pre-season tour ever!
