If these residents claim they are on lock down surely the GAA can point to the recent use of the stadium to show that these gigs are a one off..crazy that 20/30 people have caused such a stir
You are seriously misrepresenting the differences between a match and a concert. The traffic is one thing, the noise is quite another. And Croke Park's U-shaped seating turns it all but into a nuisance.

Don't get me wrong, I live near Death Valley stadium in Clemson. It seats 81,500, and has an open end also, which faces the University and is built into the bottom of a steep hill. When the stadium is full though you can hear the cheers from people from up to 3 miles away. Add to that, you want to include a music performance. So say you live nearby, instead of the occassional "Touchdown Clemson!" from the stadium speaker system and the low roar of fans, you're facing 3 straight hours of "I've got friends in Looooooowwwwwwww places." Every night, for 5 days.

It's an 80,000 seat stadium for holding sporting events. Don't strawman the issue about non GAA Sports. It's a big difference between sports and concerts. I guarantee you nobody would have approved of a U-shaped 80,000 seat open air concert hall in the middle of Dublin, if that was the primary purpose.

The Gaa can't really point to anything and be trusted. Bearing on mind, the residents would to a one-off becoming three becoming eight.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Well yes, they do have a sports stadium. Which they are entitled to use for sports.

They are entitled to use it for whatever they want..people are complaining they are locked in or out of their homes..when Ireland were playing there the games would finish late

Oh absolutely and resident agreements tend to change down the years in any case, which is why I said last night that I hope the GAA tears up anything they have agreed and takes it as far as the Supreme Court, if needs be, to revoke any measures placed upon them from An Bord Pleanala which they feel are suffocating them going forward as a business, which thisnonsense three concert limit surely is doing.

I doubt there is another stadium in the world whose local residents have as much influence as Croke Park's do over what can and cannot be held there and for how long for. I'm all for fairness and not taking the mick out of the residents. There safety needs, parking needs and general well being should always be a factor whenever events are being held there, particularly with regards to times of night that work can take place, but three concerts a year, no helicopter shooting footage and insisting in 10pm curfews is a bloody joke.

You are right to doubt that position.

About 3/4 miles away there's a wee International stadium, the Aviva. Have a look for yourself at the restrictions placed on the stadium. You'll find they are very similar situation to CP.

No they are not, take a look at their planning permission.
The GAA are not a law unto themselves, even if they think they are!

Anyway your inane ramblings are funnier that your inadvertent spelling mistake!
You're in no position to talk about inane ramblings, since some of your comments suggest you think half the thread are posting here because the GAA paid them to.

You're a good chuckle yourself, sunshine.

So they have averaged less than 2 in the past 12 years! Nuff said. They should be allowed at least 10 for this year... Grab your Stetson Garth, we'll be waiting, yeeeeeeee-HAWWWWWWW.....

That is not how the legal paperwork works.

Paperwork everyone signed on to. Including the GAA.

But the big argument has been traffic, fans hanging around etc..Exactly 5 nights..not 105 nights..unconveniencing and costing 400,000 people a lot of money and embarrassing the whole country don't justify it

Where do you get 105 nights from? If your argument cannot be rationalized without such a hyperbole, it is probably flawed.

(A bit different in the case of Clemson, as the town/city has quite literally grown as a direct result of the Stadium, and University, and the infrastructure is planned accordingly)

Those 400,000 will have most all of their money refunded to them, and your country should be more embarrassed about how it discarded its dead, in Galway. On that matter, most of the world thought the news had to surely be fake when it surfaced, but now its just simply appalling.

Canceling 2 concert days for a country singer's comeback tour? I can not emphasize this enough: nobody gives a damn.

Kind of hoping all 5 concerts are cancelled on Tuesday just to see this thread explode:)

If it happens theres going to be flash floods of tears.

The only ones inconvenienced and embarrassed are Aiken, Fatboy Garth , and the GAA, who thought they were a law unto themselves and had a licence to print money!

How can't they?..the facts are the facts..there was no concerts last year..it's an outdated agreement anyways..croke park must be the only stadium in the world were this would happen..can you imagine how the residents near wembley or the nou camp feel if croke parks residents think they have it bad

Neither Wembley ( and I lived near it) nor the Nou Camp are built in locations anything like Croke Park

Tough shít, because it is DCC (not the residents) who refused the licence and that's the end of it!

How is it outdated? Was an expiration date specified on the agreement? In law, it is common practice for bills to require review after a set number of years, and have set expiration dates on their effect if they are not renewed or amended. Are you saying that was the case here, or are you casually speculating without probable cause?
..croke park must be the only stadium in the world were this would happen..
That is false. This happens in most situations. You have not read the thread, or followed the issue, if you do not yet understand that.
can you imagine how the residents near wembley or the nou camp feel if croke parks residents think they have it bad

This also exemplifies a lack of education on this issue. For one, Wembley's design doesn't cause as much noise pollution. Second, the stadium was rebuilt in 2007 and would have filed for new planning permission. Whatever the residents and the local council agreed to, is the agreement. Croke Park and the GAA agreed to the current terms, when they built "Phase 4" in 2004. Subsequently, they cannot build a "Phase 5" without filing for new planning permission. All of which is standard in law.

Subsequently, they would have agreed to an agreement, in 2003? When they broke ground on Phase Four. The agreement is only 11 years old. Hardly "ancient" in law.

There is no legal way that DCC can review, modify, or rescind their decision, Tuesday or any other day.

I have no interest in Garth Brooks or his concerts. I do however love to exercise in rational thought and argument; and this thread is rife with irrational, misinformed argument.
