Indeed, forgot about that. Nevertheless, thankfully I dont use 3g much, just as well as Tescos is so slow. Since they piggyback on the O2 network, does this mean that O2 3g is very bad also?

    So I ported over today.

Received my configuration settings. Download speeds are CRAP, barely 1MBps.

I've turned on data roaming (as instructed by their tech support) but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

Restarted the phone after each change and seems to make no difference either.

It says I'm on 4G but d/l rate still terrible.

TM is not 4G. 1MB d/l is pretty good on 3G.

Wont 3G speed improve once a enough of people move over to 4G.

Bit sneaky you have to pay for voice mail and customer support, these are usually free with most providers?

I'm still not convinced that the bloke in the Tesco was correct. It would be madness with an unlimited package, I can see that it might happen with a limited package where you ran out of your allowance.

Really? In that case I'm off back to Meteor. I was getting much better than that. 1MB is pretty much unusable for anything other than (slow) web browsing.

Ah crap. I just looked it up (should have done so beforehand) - data speeds are capped at 2MB. Correction: it seems I my house is in a poor signal area, cap no longer exists.

    **** that.

What is the point in 15GB per month if you are completely strangled on d/l speeds.

    Goodbye Tesco.

OK I take it back. I'm in work now and did some speedtests at various points on the way in.

They varied between 5MbpS and 8Mbps.

Quite happy with that. It would seem that I just have poor signal in my house.

5/8/10/12 Mbs is not unusual on TM. They got rid of those speed restrictions late last year.

Didn't know they had a speed cap.

I'm with them a few weeks now and Speedtest was telling me about 5Meg speed when in good 3G coverage.....

You sure about the cap ?

No. See my subsequent post above.

I also talked to customer support and apparently you can call 089-4200000 for Customer Support and that comes off your free minutes.(i.e. you won't be charged).

So no 1/2MB download cap and a work around for free customer support? Now we just need a free voicemail number too...

OK - been playing around with this.
I can get through to my own voicemail if I put 5 on front of my mobile number when ringing from my own mobile.
So If my number is 089-1234567 then dial 089-51234567 and it then asks for your voicemail pin and you can then access your voicemail.

I'm hoping that this number is not charged.
Just looked at my call history and my 171 call (to set up my voicemail) or my new voicemail access number is not on the log yet....I'll wait to see if they appear and if there is a charge.

So the 171 voicemail call is now on my call history (the other call witht e 5 on front is not) but it looks like I'm not being charged for voicemail :
    ScreenShot482.jpg

Looks like voicemail is not charged.

Anybody got a link to where it says voicemail is a charged call ?

Is this deal still going on? I wouldn't mind heading into a store for it but don't want to waste a trip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,863 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Yes, it was only for a limited period a few months ago, but now it seems to have come back for good.

Cool, would be handy to sign up online though...I'll head into one of the shops later!

Any one know of a Tesco Phone shop in Cork where you can walk in and sign up for this and walk away with the SIM

I've moved over from the Eircom €35 a month deal to the Tesco €25 a month 12 month sim only deal.

I joined up online using a spare Tesco sim I had - registered the sim online which was pay as you go, moved my number from Eircom to Tesco, then applied online for the bill pay deal.

All done and accepted in a few minutes including providing bank account details (IBAN) and no contract to sign - you get an electronic contract in your email.

Impressed with ease of moving and it's the same deal as I had with Eircom for a tenner more. For someone who wants simple bill pay without having to worry about topups this is the way to go.

And I can confirm voicemail is "free" - it comes out of your 10,000 minutes allowance.

Did this finish or is it still available?

    Edit: See it now.

I was telling someone about this and they actually already had a separate sim with Tesco for ringing international numbers at only 1c per minute. I think it was a special deal at some stage they managed to sign up with. It's PAYG though, but just wondering if they got on this 25/pm plan, could they still get the 1c per minute international calls does anyone know?

Yeah. The 1c calls rates apply across PAYG and contract customers.

Thanks for that, I see here: https://www.tescomobile.ie/priceplans/international/ that there are a number of 1c destinations that can be called, but seems to be landlines only. I'm not sure if my friend was on something that was 1c for everything international or what, I'll try find out :)

It was only ever 1c landlines but there are also 1c or 2c US and Canada mobile calls. Maybe he was calling North America?

On the Tesco mobile site the unlimited sim only plan appears to be 25 euro a month on a 30 day contract rather then the 12 month.

    AWWWWW YEAH
