48 is still €20 with no contract for the same deal and they have no contract. And the age limit part is BS

And the €10 Guido plan from 48 is good too.

48 offer is not the same. Unlimited calls are to mobiles with only 60minutes to landlines and only 5GB data

Tesco Mobile plan is Unlimited Calls any network, Unlimited Texts any network and 15GB data

Not a bad deal. Thanks OP.

But practically no one calls large amounts of landline anymore. And you will struggle to get 2gbs a month, never mind 5gb unless you use your phone as a hotspot

Thanks for this. Is it a 12 month contract so? Does "Only available in phone shops" mean the phone aisle in Tesco or are there now special Tesco Phone shops like the way Three/Vodafone have their little shops?

    Not true for all people.
If you use the phone for business you would call a lot more land lines.
You could also use well over 2gb if you stream music or TV or movies

That's a great deal really in Tesco.
Its a fiver more than the deal I am on but a lot more minutes and data.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Seems like a good deal for sure. I'm going to advise my dad to get it. He's on a 30 day rolling contract with meteor, would anyone know how I could advise or guide him to sign up to this. Are there staff in most Tesco stores who would be able to get him through the whole process of changing providers etc and if he's on a 30 day rolling contract with meteor, will he be able to just jump ship, or will he need to give Meteor 28/30 days notice etc and so not be able to get this deal before Tuesday?

    Any help appreciated :)

Does the tesco sim offer include calls to landlines? I know it says any network minutes but is that just mobile networks
    Thx

Sounds great, surprised this thread isn't getting more attention. Now just to find out whether it can be signed up for at all Tesco stores with a phone aisle, or only clearwater :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭brendan86

so its not unlimited data is that correct? it is only 15gb?

i would go for this if it was unlimited as use my phone as a hotspot..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

You're going to find, based on mobile speeds, that 15GB should be enough. Nothing is stopping you from buying an additional add-on if you need it.

Tesco are starting to open "Phone Shops" in some of the stores. Once opened on Galway last month,

Interesting, so I guess trying to sign up at a regular customer service desk in any Tesco with a phone aisle won't work for this deal :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭Doodlebug

It sounds like 4G will not be available on Tesco Mobile for a while yet, but even with 3G I think this sounds really good. If I'm reading this correctly, it beats the eMobile "Eircom customer" €34.50 plan (the very same limits, and also 3G) that many went for a couple of years ago.

So the decision to switch is down to coverage I suppose (i.e. O2 vs. eMobile/Meteor)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

I suggest that people keep calling customer care studying that they aren't near a phone store but want to sign up. Keep stating that they'd lose a customer and whatnot. The staff would be sure to put you on the tariff.

Even mention how your family would be keen to join if they enabled it.

Just wondering does it cost a fortune for someone on Vodafone Mobile or meteor to phone you if you are on tesco mobile cos most of my contacts are on the same network as myself and so we have free calls and texts to each other.

Thats very poor in this day and age. Your friends could always text you to call them, or ring and then hang up. You could call them back for free! :D

I guess I missed this for my dad, but I still want to change my dads plan for him. I see on http://www.tescomobile.ie/priceplans/pay-monthly-plans.aspx

there's €30 for (practically) unltd calls/texts/data sim only, or €30 for a 12 month contract for the same thing. Why would anyone go for the 12 month contract over the rolling monthly sim only?

To get a phone I assume it gives you a better price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

There doesn't seem to be any phone plan with it on that and it also says 12 month "sim only", I just find it strange it's the exact same deal as the 30 day sim only, why would anyone choose the 12 month when they can just go for the 30 day

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

My bad I've never heard of a 12 month sim only plan. That makes no sense.

Tesco ran a 12 month Sim only offer which many round here picked up - 1GB Data / 300 mins / 300 txts & free Tesco to Tesco calls.

At €10 p/m it was a pretty decent package.

is the 15 euro pay as you go offer not better value? and no contract

UNLIMITED Calls to All Mobiles & Landlines
FREE Tesco Mobile to Tesco Mobile calls & texts, 250 Free webtexts
Keep your €15 credit – Spend on added value add ons.

Depends what your requirements are I guess.

If I'm organising plans for the folks, they're happy to pay a premium to skip the whole top-up rigmarole & not worry about phone credit when abroad etc.

The above certainly looks good for those after a PAYG set up (48 also has it's fans I've noticed).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

That's my thinking too Yamanato, I'm after this for my dad and the convenience of just getting a bill (which he can claim vat back for his business) and the money coming out of direct debit is worth the extra to avoid the hassle of topping up and possibly running out of credit.

What do you get for €15 anyway? Do you get the 15gb data allowance and unltd texts too?

Not if you use it judiciously, which they would.

Also, as of next year, roaming fees intra-EU will disappear. :)

No. Just free calls and network texts but you still have the €15 to spend on texts, data, international calls etc as you wish. You could top up by the €15 for the free calls and buy a text bundle (€10) and 1GB of data (€5). So none too shabby if the topping-up mularkey does not phase you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭Johnny_Fontane

signed up with three the other day. Its €20 + VAT, I claim the VAT back.
All calls, texts and unlimited data. They also support tethering.

not great for roaming though, no packages available.

It's July 2015, so now is a perfect time to get into a 12 month contract so you'll be out by then and will be free then to go to whoever you want, should be interesting to see what deals are out then!

No - if you mean zero EU roaming fees then it's 2016

So I'm with Vodafone at the moment and would like to switch to the 24 month SIM only plan.

Do I sign up for the plan, receive the Tesco SIM & new mobile number and then switch the number to my current number using the 3 step process here

    http://www.tescomobile.ie/support/move-my-mobile-number.aspx

    Is that how it works?

Yes - I did it for my neighbour. Was waiting maybe 20 mins for the confirmation text (could take up to 2 hrs I'm told) but once had that could login with the ported (existing number) and was on the TM network.

if moving to bill pay did you not have to provide utility bills etc or was it just enter your bank account and done?

Yep. A minimum of 2 phones. Blueface, who are a MVNO on the Three network, are currently running an offer of unlimited mins, texts & data within Ireland for €19.50 + vat. IIRC it ends on 31st July and if you're in before that date, you will get that rate for however long you stay with them.

Just with the €15 you topped up with. If you wanted 15GB of data it would cost you €30 i.e 3 €10 5GB bundles.

The equivalent cost of all calls, texts, and 15GB of data on PAYG would work out at €40. But of course you do not have to purchase all the bundles if for example you do not need that much data.

The neighbour moved from Vodafone to TM bill pay. Sorry I'm not sure of the complete details. I only helped once they'd got the 089 SIM and wanted to port.

Thanks for clearing that up, so in my case, it would work out much better putting my dad on the 25pm plan so he's covered for pretty much all usage, will get a bill each month, doesn't have to deal with top ups or texting for bundles and will never need to worry about going over his data allowance, which I don't think he knows how to monitor and 15gb would be plenty for him :)

There's only a few TM stores. They are located in the biggest Tesco outlets in the Dublin area like Jervis Street.

You don't need to go to a TM store now, any store should do, but I don't know, can you get the micro sims in store or do you need to sign up online and wait for delivery?

The original deal was only available through TM stores for the bank holiday weekend in May I think but now the 12 month deal for 25eur is available anywhere from what I can see :) it's advertised in the Ballybrack store too
