    Thor is 0.8w.

Left to right looking at the dish is obviously 28, 23, 19, 13, 0.8W

    Hi folks

Hoping to get the t90 installed this evening..

Just wondering - the 'Thor' beam you refer to on the thread - what SAT is that on?

I am going for 19, 13, 23 and 28, and if he can put the lnb from the sky dish on the t90, what would be the next best one to go for?

    Cheers,
    Mick

Use the sky lnb for one of the strong satellites, ie 28east

Also not sure your location but the Nordic beams on 1 west and 5east will be too weak for you also.
When I was in mayo even 7east was a struggle with a 1.1m (serious rain fade)

    My favourite SATs are: 20w, 15w, 12.5w, 5w, 4w, 1w, 9e, 13e, 19e, 23.5, 26e, 28e and 42east.

Luckily I'm in middle east Europe, so my Nordic beams, Amos 4w, all 42east are the strongest I get. Only beam I cannot get is uk freesat 28 east.

    Hi Guys,

Dish install nearly finished, will post pics later if the rain stops

In relation to thor - installer asked me which transponder am i interested in so he can check with his meter?

    Thanks,
    Mick

There's virtually no FTA there mate, what card have you got?

You will also lose the Scandanavian HDs in any sort of wet weather (if you can get them at all).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭STB

If you have no cards, I wouldnt leave it on Thor 0.8W.

I would move it to 7E. You can then try out the Outside Broadcast links. There are some links frequencies used on Thor but not as many as 7E which reguarly has horse racing (ATR & Racing UK) and football games on it.

    Hi Guys,

Up and running since last night, will take pictures tonight and post

    On .8W, 13, 19, 23, 28

I have to say the install of the T90 takes a long time! Credit to the guy who did it for me, he was about 3 hours Tuesday evening and 3 hours yesterday getting everything right. I would never ever have been able to do it.

He reckoned he could have installed a 1 metre motorised dish in one hour..

We had an interesting discussion about Inverto LNBs.. he had one with him and a titanium dual line lnb, he put both on the dish with his meter at .08w and no difference in signal strength. He reckons its a bit of a myth that the Invertos are better?

Anyway I think i need to take a language course now.. if i could speak german, italian, french and spanish i think i'd be well on the way.. Did a scan of the sats and hve something like 4k channels now

Of course not may are FTA

Anyway thanks for all the help and advice - are there any android phone apps that will tell you what matches etc are on which channels when the footie is in season?

    Cheers,
    Mick

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭STB

He is wrong about the Inverto Black Ultras. I have two and it a noticeable +10% jump on an enigma meter.

The soccer site for the channels are http://liveonsat.com/quickindex.html

The ones that are free to air with be marked in red.

    Hi Mick

What sat did he centre the dish on?

you can get this app for Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=difed.soccersat to find out what channels sports are on (uses LJs whats on Sat)

    I dropped you a pm

Seconded on the Inverto LNBs - it has been mentioned a few times throughout this thread by a couple of us (and on other threads - run a search).

I wouldn't trust any installer who wasn't aware of the advantages in using them (although to really see the benefit they should be tried on a weaker satellite).

I am now happily watching glitch-free channels across the arc that I routinely used to lose in rain.

From getting nothing on 7.3W I can now pull in a number of channels!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭micks_address

If it means which LNB is closest to the centre of the dish then id say probably .8W the other lnb are all to the left of the bar on the dish as i look at it.. ill post pictures tonight

    Hi Guys,

Now that I have 28, 23, 19, 13 and .8W up on running on the T90 and I have 3 ports left on the diseque switches -

What would the next three lnbs be worth pointing at?

Have to wait till the missus goes on holidays for a week in august but i might sneak some more lnbs on then :)

    Cheers,
    Mick

Looks like a very tidy install. I wish you many happy viewing hours with the T-90. I've had mine for years and love it.

Enclosed one pic of mine T-90,CM 1.2m and TD 110 all on one pole.

Got it in 2009, great dish except I did not like the lnb holders so I modded it, I got the holders from a RimaNTSS a Boardie and a local machine shop made the bits.

Its the wifes dish and AFAIK she can pick up most things. Tell me a channel and I'll tell you if we can get it.

You really will love the T-90 and they are such a bargain.

You are a lucky man. My wife isn't as in love with the t90 as i am :)

As an aside anyone know if there's an Android app for channels listing that show the programme name in English?

Lovely job by the installer, cabling is something to be proud of, but cant figure out how the dish is centered

but that aside Mick, good man and welcome to the very addictive "hhmmm see can I get that Sat"

    picture.php?albumid=407&pictureid=12535

    jasus Greenman, love it

but how do you get away with that? the missus must be giving you the "evil eye" every day

There is an EPG Translator plugin; try your feed.

Or apply Google Translate to your favoured channel provider site :)

    Hi guys,
Ordered a quad black ultra from Amazon as had some vouchers, going to swap it with the current dual smart titanium that's on. 8w

Any sat suggestions on where to wire in the smart titanium to?

    Cheers.

    Hi Guys,

The black ultra lnb arrived, i was wondering how easy it would be to swap in with the titanium lnb i have there already pointing at 1w. Would there be alignment issues? I might be better off getting my Sat installer back to do it, but he is on holidays at the moment

    Cheers,
    Mick

So it should be just a case of unscrewing the sat cables from the existing lnb, taking the lnb from the holder and puttling the new one in and connecting all up?

Yeah but you will have to keep the skew similar and also the front of the lnb distance to the dish may need to be adjusted to peak the signal.
Its trial and error ,but you cant really do any damage .

OK so I swapped out the titanium and put in the inverto. I've attached signal strength from my solo 2 on thor. No perceived increase in strength. Perhaps I haven't got it perfect?

You will have to vary the skew and the front of the lnb distance to the dish to maximise the signal.
You can check the signal strength on a laptop running vu player or open webif or else get someone to watch the tv while you adjust it.

I have vu player on my phone and it seems to be working. Is the best thing to do to switch to a channel on. 8w then play with the rotation and distance of the lnb from the front of the dish?

And when setting which should you do first skew or distance from front of dish?

That tp 10716 H is on the K1 beam which is not favourable for Ireland. Maybe 8 dB is a good result on a 90 cm dish where you are. I get 11.3 dB with 1.1 m dish in Dundalk.

    http://www.telenorsat.com/satellites-teleports/satellite-fleet/thor-6-k1-2/

A stronger footprint is T2, Sky News on 12418 V 7/8 is 15.7 dB here.

Do you think playing with the skew and position of lnb I can increase the db?

If it is a 90 cm dish that is probably good. The only way to know would be to connect the box to another dish in your area if you know someone who has one. As you can see from the link the footprint for 10716 would be better where I am than further south and west, in theory anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭micks_address

After adjusting skew now have 15.25 on sky news... So definitely an improvement.

It's usually a 40 degree arc covered - give or take. You should get 5w easily.

    Hi Guys,

After the strong wind in dublin last week my signal on some channels on Thor and the polish channels have weakened. I'm guessing something was knocked slightly out of alignment. I'm still getting all on France/Spain and Uk sats perfectly.

My question is would it just be the lnbs that need re positioning or would the dish also have become slightly out of alignment?

    Cheers,
    Mick

Hi Mick. It could be either/or. You'll have to get up there and go through process of elimination. It's a good idea to have the lnb positions marked - and also dish angle marked - so that if either is knocked out of position, it's easy to put back in position.

Those T90's take a hell of a loading. That dish will be tested over the next 6 months - hopefully its not in too exposed a position. otherwise, this is why it's preferable to have them ground mounted.

    Hi guys,
Just wondering what required signal strength is for good reception on 13

Ive lost one or two channels since fiddling with the lnb

    Signal strength for hbo HD..

    Does that seem reasonable?

Canal film2 HD no longer tuning
    Cheers
    Mick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,402 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

Nothing should have caused channels to disappear except what you did with the LNB. All the footprints B, C and D are very strong over Ireland.

    http://www.flysat.com/hotbird.php

    I am getting Film 2 at 13.8 dB. 10892 H 27500 3/4 ?

    HBO HD2 17.2 dB. 10834 V 27500 3/4 ?

    1.1 m dish.
