UTV own the modem though. Not Vodafone. I'd imagine Vodafone isn't taking responsibility for everything - just the customer base.

So forgive me if I seem a little miffed. Utv have been bought over by vodaphone. We get packages today from vodaphone containing our new vodaphone modems. Someone wants to return the said vodaphone modem and rings vodaphone to ask where it should be returned too. vodaphone advises that you will have to ring Utv to return the vodaphone modem. Am I missing something here?

If you read my post, you will see that I thought it was the UTV Modems people were looking to return.

Anyway, I am now 100% a Vodafone Customer. Fibre installed today!

I got my modem today too, rang them just to check if I should go ahead and set it up and was told no, do not set it up until I get a text from Vodafone, telling me that their broadband service was active on my line and I should get this text on or before July 1st. Anyone else get told this ?

No didn't get that. I presume it's a letter if they don't know your mob number.

I got my modem last week and the guy came and set it up a few days later. He had to replace the cable from the pole outside going into the house, and also the line inside as well. Both were ancient and on their last legs.

    I opted for fibre btw.

All up and running grand now. My house is only 200 m. from the cabinet so I was expecting a bit faster than the 45 mbs. approx download speed and 18 mbs. upload speed. Still, it's much better than previous and I'm ok with it.

Should I be getting nearer 80 mbs. d/load speed seeing as how I have new cables and living near the cabinet?

Was there a charge for this? Often wondered would eircom agreed to doing it.

I'm a bit further (by about 100m or so) from the cabinet and hitting close on 90mbs download and 20mbs upload. Check with Vodafone that your profile allows for faster speeds.

Not that I know of. The guy said nothing about it anyway. I always understood anything outside the house was the property of Eircom.

Not sure about the inside cable. Hope there isn't a surprise in my first bill

As far as the NTU(Master socket) is eircoms problem. No charges there.

If they ran an extension for VDSL from the NTU thats also usually paid for by the provider. If you get it after the original install you'll pay though.

Had problems some months ago with the Master Socket. It was never upgraded as I was not an Eircom customer at the time.

As my speeds were not as they should have been and my provider had Eircom come and replace it.

I got mine upgraded free by eircom when I wasn't a customer of theirs. Didn't get charged. Guess it depends on the engineer.

If Eircom CS was as good as their very helpful Engineers they would have a wonderful service

Am I right in thinkingthat the Master socket is the box inside the house which feeds to everything else?
Mine must be over 30 years old.

Correct. If one connected anything to that when Eircom has control of everything in communications. One could have their service terminated. Never happened.

One put in ones own extensions as the options were too expensive

If you are staying with ADSL broadband, why do we need to change our current modem to the Vodafone one ? Surely any modem, that you can buy over the counter in a computer shop, will work with ADSL ? It does appear that the Vodafone modem will work for both ADSL and Fibre. But unless you upgrade to fibre, why change your existing modem ?

not impressed with Vodafone at the moment, just checked my speed compared to yesterday and ive lost over 2 mps per second.

Yesterday I was hitting 7mps, this morning just over 5mps.

Will monitor throughout the day, but its not great for 9am.

Also that bleeding flashing on the modem is wrecking my head!

All modems flash. Your unlucky that your ones appear to be on the front .. Mine on Sky are on the rear.
I also have a "Samknows " box connected to the modem and has 4 flashing LEDs , but gets use to it.

What I suggest is to,get the stats from the modem and keep records of that as well.

When did you get your modem

So, i finally have a freepost address to return my VF Modem to. Am now awaiting a reply from UTV regarding what procedure i am expected to follow if i wish to switch to a different provider.
If one good thing has come from this it is that i was planning on switching my mobile phone provider shortly and was seriously considering VF as i was with them for about 10 years in the past.
After my dealings with them on the phone yesterday and the fact that they would not allow me to keep the €3 discount if i moved to a slightly cheaper, more suitable package i will most definitely not consider them when changing my mobile phone provider!
