Right folks, one last Audi A4 question:

In what scenario would a person pass an NCT, and only get a cert for 4 months?

Edit: actually, last, last question: Would those tyres be prone to punctures?! (low profile and all that?)

It might have been backdated, my saab has an nct for 8 months cos it was the ealiest i could get it in april, not so sure about the tyres, i wouldn't say theres much difference

    Correct on all fronts, Pickles.
The low profile tyres will provide better cornering at the cost of a bit of comfort.

Not as bad as people may have you believe how ever.

I'm sitting here bored and browing DD looking for my next pressie to me - something like this

Just curious what the tax rate was on those but I won't be buying one tomorrow so I can wait :)

EDIT: Nevermind.. just spotted it's one of the few ads that lists it! €1200 apparently.. still less than mine!

NCT isn't backdated, per se. It runs until anniversary of cars registration.

To answer the initial question: If someone was retarded enough to not wait 1 more month so they would get a 15 month NCT, then they'd get a 4 month NCT.

Good news is - if it's just past its test, you can test it again in 1 months time and get 15 months worth of test. Less likely that major things would go wrong during that time.

Re: low profile tyres. They're no more prone to punctures than any other tyre tbh. The main difference is comfort.

    Thanks a lot guys.

I'm still completely undecided, but at least now if I go for it, I'll be making a much more educated decision, than if ye hadn't been helping me out.

    I appreciate the help. :)

I know you do a lot of mileage KKV but if as you say its mostly start stop then you won't see any real mpg gains and the tdi engine will hate you for every minute of it :)

You might sell the A4 quicker though.

Would you really though? If so, I'm sure this chap wouldn't be looking to do any swapping and would have his sold by now.

Feck it ... not gonna get that xc70.... too many things wrong that I can see and mileage is very high.

    Will wait until its right....

Well going by the guy's comments he isn't in the market to make money, he is looking for something more family-friendly.

As someone who sells cars for a living, I do believe the A4 would sell quicker with an advert written up like yours. His ad is a bit ****e.

Similar thing in most of French cars. France is well known for very powerful worker's unions, so just in case of any strike (likely) car manufacturers have more (much more) than one OEM suppliers. :)

I don't think a single Alfa I've had has been the same mechanically as ones from even the same year (I had 3 closely registered cars all side by side, all different under the bonnet and underneath  )

    What year is it?
A 20d can be anything from 177 to 192 as far as I know.

    My 30d is 218bhp with 500Nm torque.

It was side by side with Dgt's car to xxx speed with nothing in it.
I was absolutely blown away with what he'd built, fair play to you dgt :)

I took on a 330d one night, the 2 cars were evenly matched..... The fella in the 330 got a nasty wake up call!

I have ideas for a future project that will make the 406 seem very tame yet retains a somewhat sleeper setup ;)

In other news, fook me those evenings are getting horrid short....!
