No, seems as if it's the same fixed username and password for everyone.

In addition it seems it will work even if you have a fixed IP package (which is 6 euro a month with VF compared to 3.50 with UTV)

How do you log on then?

My UTV account would be csXXXXXX@adsl.utvinternet.ie

For Vodafone it would be? csXXXXXX@??????????????

    Thanks

You dont need individual details for Vodafone or eircom. They do it via the port you're connected to in the exchange.

    vodafone@vodafone.ie
    broadband

Thats all you need. Rest is done "automagically".

i think this video sums up our experience with the transition

I'm still waiting to be connected to Vodafone and I placed the order a week ago now! Today I was told it would be another day or two, because there waiting for a task to be completed before my order can be accepted. Funnily enough, when I said 'Oh right, so it might take two days so' the chap said 'No, should take a day or two'.

There all nice people and quick to answer, but jesus there is a shambles getting us all setup. Surely it's the same procedure to switch as if I was moving from Eircom or Sky? I'm calling, telling them the package I want, providing my direct debit details, contact details and UAN number.

Your right nice people but I think we know more about the whole set up procedure. To be honest most of the admins I've been speaking too sound very young and in some but not all not too bright. So much for a seemless transition hey. It's not rocket science.

Folks, just in case anyone is looking to jump ship to another provider, your UAN can be found on the header of the call itemisation section on your statements. It's very small writing and UTV refer to it as Eircom Account Ref.

Can you leave your line rental with eircom and move to Vodafone or Sky from UTV for just the broadband ? Doesn't seem like you can !

I had Broadband with UTV for years but line rental was always through Eircom. Most packages now include rental but I don't think they can assume rental control of your line until you confirm it with Eircom who should call you if Sky /Vodafone attempt to take it over. Just tell Eircom not to recind control and they won't. Your broadband service with whomever won't be affected regardless of who you're renting the line from.

It may be best to call eircom about it first in case things have changed however.

So I am being transferred to Vodafone - no thanks!!! With no prospect of fibre anytime soon I am off to Total Wireless!

€39 per month for unlimited with speeds of up to 8mb (min 5mb) which is twice what I have with utv. Rolling one month contract.

    Good timing for me!!

If you don't mind me asking where are you located. How much is the package your getting from eircom and what's in it. Is it fibre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 272 ✭✭D_BEAR

Outside Carlow town switched to fibre unlimited and unlimited national anytime minutes. €40 for the first 6 months then €55 after that.

Nice. No chance of me getting fibre anytime soon though. I pay for 24mb but only get between 15-17 sometimes not even that.

So got Total Wireless installed today and what an improvement! My upload speed is faster than what my downlaod has been !

Is anyone else having issues with their broadband service the last few days?

Getting lots of dropouts and slow connections.

Yea, I've had problems since Thursday. At peak times there seems to be significant packet loss (up to 30%). This makes the broadband almost unusable for a lot of things. I've swapped out modem and it still happens. I'm going to contact UTV if it doesn't get resolved soon. I don't think it's any coincidence it started happening as soon as Vodafone took over.

I'm still waiting to get properly signed up, heading into two weeks now. Last week I was told it would be sorted by the end of the week. Now I am being told it's going to take longer. 'Problems' encountered with each order, there saying it should be okay this time but so far no word from eircom about installation and no modem from Vodafone.

Careful here, folks. It appears to *definitely* be the case that UTV Connect customers with any number of months remaining on their current UTV contract only need to see that time through (with Vodafone) before they are free to move elsewhere (assuming they end up unhappy with the service.)

Those who have fulfilled their UTV contract *are* free to refuse the Vodafone offer and get a new supplier now, OR test out Vodafone and then move to a new supplier (if unhappy) in 2-3 months. But this is CONDITIONAL on keeping the Vodafone package chosen as your UTV equivalent, I was told today.

*If* you drop down to any other package, they will consider you a NEW customer and contract you in for 12+/whatever's usual months.

From my calls, Vodafone customer care are all at odds on this info - I was even told customers transferring from UTV with no time remaining on the UTV contract would have to start a contract afresh with VF from July 1st - which is insane. (I just said I wouldn't be signing anything, but they were insistent it happened anyway.)

The other plus if you're out a current UTV customer and don't have direct debit, is that you can continue to use your old payment method without signing a direct debit form (but, again, different if you downgrade from the chosen package.)

So basically, be careful all - if you're out of a contract from UTV in terms of minimum months, you are free to stay with VF for now, go in a few months, or just go now. But you are _not_ contracted afresh with VF from July 1st (as some customer care staff are claiming.)

The only question remaining is will the broadband speed and service generally be improved when VF take over...

I am confused by your first paragraph, I am currently about half way through a contract with UTV as I switched to a fibre package. I am free to refuse VF offer and go to another provider if I choose because the terms of my contract have changed. I do not need to see out the remainder of that package with VF.

That is possible. The fibre contracts may not be the same as regular broadband. They seemed certain talking to me that anyone with a contract "in motion" would have to see it out before moving, but as I say fibre may not be the same.

On the whole, they seem confused generally to me. Not certain which contracts roll on, which ones leave everyone free to move (do they all on the basis of new terms? In which case, that's a dodgy thing to happen after their customer base is purchased.)

Or in my case, I reckon this will be the only period where I get to experience three Broadband providers in a several months period (UTV now, Vodafone from July 1st, and should that not be a successful or improvement in my BB speed, a third party in a few months.) With the way contracts lock in these days, I reckoned it was as well to take the VF offer (month to month rolling contract, as long out of the UTV minimum period) and at least have the option to move on again, should I need to...

Does your letter from VF not state at the bottom that it is a contract change and as such you can exercise your statutory right to withdraw from your contract without penalty?

I had a look there. Yes, in the sense that you can exercise your right to withdraw (so you're right about that - I guess it does allow those in a contract with time remaining on it.) Although that isn't what they say when you call them.

But I see under that they write that not hearing from a customer "within the next 30 days" deems those changes to be accepted. Now, it doesn't suggest a new contract and the staff are completely insistent that no new contract is entered into - the contract is effectively 'month to month' for customers who have passed their initial period, I was told.

Anyone get one of the new modems they promised us ? In my letter, it stated that it would be out a couple of weeks before July 1st, so they should be coming soon ?

Didn't get it yet I suspect no one will get them till after 1st July but that's just a hunch. By they way people make sure you write down times, dates, and names of all the vp and utv reps that you have been talking too all the calls are recorded so if they say your going to get something and you don't you can present them with this information as proof of your conversation.

Agree - I think it's going to be one of those situations where there will be backtracking on promises or assurances down the line.

I was also told yesterday that despite what the letter says (and despite some people getting routers) that the vast majority would not get one until after July 1st - as it's only then they will know for certain who is staying with VF, and not planning to move elsewhere. Seems they don't want a ton of routers that need to be returned.

Horsemanure. Sales / Customer Care people aren't always clued in. You are entitled to leave UTV after 30 days of receipt of the letter purely because your price plan is going to change. If you call Vodafone and agree to a package, any package, than you are entering into an agreement to be a Vodafone customer and the 30 day proposal no longer applies but a 7 day window appears (14 now IIRC) allowing you to reconsider.

This is Consumer Law in Ireland. Vodafone are not offering this out of the kindness of their hearts. Look at the Three buying out o2 situation - all contracts stand because Three are not planning on changing the o2 price plans (as it stands) so you remain in contract.

With respect sully you would be mad to agree anything with these people so far and your right about the vp staff they don't seem to have any clue about what's going on so how could anyone agree to anything with them on that basis?
