Southampton will look pretty silly if we seal Shaqiri for £15m after them trying to hold out for £25m+ for Lallana.

i know they get to potentially keep the player then, but still.

i like Lallana a lot, and would greatly welcome him whatever the fee, but there's no way he's £25m+ worth of player yet.

A reminder of the end of Trading Places - "Can't we have both?"

A front 6 next year of Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana, Sturridge, Suarez and Shaqiri, with a reserve front 6 of Lucas, Allen, Can, Coutinho, Lambert and Sterling.
And that's not including Suso, Borini, Aspas or any of the kids...

Do you not think Sterling will be a starter for most games

I know it's probably glaringly obvious but who is LDV?

Laurie Dalle Valle, or however you spell it. The lad that went to Fulham with Kacilinik as part of the Konchesky deal.

Others suggest it's both Shaqiri and Lallana and not one or the other.

If true, and as I said before if we land Moreno, Lovern plus one of the other rumoured targets (Sanchez,Pedro)with Ayre reportedly over at Barca- then we are spending Suarez money imo.

Just read the last few pages of this thread about Emre Can on a Bayern forum and the majority of them seem gutted that we're getting him.

Suppose it would of been handy if I gave the link :o

I do, but living in a world where we sign Shaqiri, I think they would start an equal amount of times, when everyone is fit. Or Sterling plays behind a front 3 of S&S&S...

I don't know much about the players we've bought, but I am glad that we're getting our business sorted out promptly.

It's making me think that they may be getting business done for other reasons.

Players that we are interested in will increase drastically in price if we sell Suarez.

It's not silly keeping hold of a very important team player and captain.

£25m + is too much for us to spend on him but there's an argument (admittedly with flaws) to be made that you equate his importance to Southampton as say Gerrard's importance to Liverpool (maybe not the greatest example but I use him for illustrative purposes).

Not only is he an important player in terms of what he does technically on the pitch but also in terms of guiding other players on the team, his stature with the fans, promotional activity etc.

As a Liverpool supporter we judge Lallana purely on what he did on the pitch. From Southampton's perspective his value goes beyond that.

It could also be a case of the club are in the group stages of the champions league . So the money is gauranteed so the transfer can be done now and not after a qualifier is played .
To me there would have been two plans . 1 for automatic qualification and 1 for a qualifier .

As well as the Can deal going throught yesterday.

It seem two more coaches have jumped ship to City to join Borrell.
Manchester City completed their latest raid on its coaching staff.

The departure of coaches Steve Torpey and Darren Hughes, who will work at the new integrated Etihad campus, follows City’s appointment of Rodolfo Borrell as global technical director, after Liverpool had let him go last November. Liverpool had not wanted to lose Torpey and Hughes, who worked with age groups up to 14, and the moves to replace them are expected to form part of a summer of restructuring at the Kirkby academy. As yet, no director has been appointed to succeed Frank McParland, the Rafael Benitez appointee who the club let go at the same time as Borrell. Liverpool will above all be keen to demonstrate to parents of talented young players that the loss of two respected coaches to the wealthier Manchester club does not imply that City are a better option.

This is the latest from Bild on Shaqiri...

The championship in the Premier League has Liverpool FC missed, but qualifying for the Champions League managed to loose. Now the Reds for next season want to upgrade. German media reports of the transfer plans of the traditional clubs - and in which plays loud " Guardian "Bavaria's Xherdan Shaqiri an important role.
Accordingly makes coach Brendan Rodgers seriously. He wants the Swiss, who with Bayern may have become masters, but it was used only irregularly, necessarily bring to Anfield. Rodgers was a huge fan of Shaqiri, they say.
Shaqiri himself had indeed repeatedly flirted later this year with a change and called for more use of time, but said recently on a fan event in his home country, he remains one more season at Bayern.

Jaysus that translate is sh*te, it's nearly easier to read in German
Dementsprechend macht Trainer Brendan Rodgers ernst.

Annoying to lose two members of the coaching team, but we can hardly complain given the poaching that we've done. Not hard to see why they've moved either. Man City have laid down a serious marker of their ambition by spending a fortune on developing training and medical facilities. If you're going to be doing that, then you're obviously going to be wanting to hoover up the best coaching staff.

It'll be interesting to see where they are in five years time. Chelsea spent a fortune on buying young talent, but haven't seen a lot for their money.

Blind took there report form the Guardian's report that we were in for Shaqiri lol

It really is just a makey uppy between all these papers. But I guess since we seem to be the only team making moves at the moment most of the sports papaes are looking at us.

What City are doing at what Chelsea are doing/did is chalk and cheese.

City are putting in some serious foundations for the future and spending billions in the process.

It's a frightening amount of money, and the potential outcome over the next decade of what they can (and more that likely) achieve.
Not just the PL but in world football.

If only they could remember their players birthdays.

Liverpool have advertised for an Academy Director, as for City well they are spending big but unless they actually use the young talent bring through the place it will be nothing more than a hen house for export. If I were a parent of a talented boy-child I'd not rush to City at this point, even though I'm sure the facility will turn some heads with its shiny large scale newness.
