Sorry to bring this back up from this morning, I'm not picking you out or anything just catching up.

I tend to disagree that it's the defence that's costing us rather it's how open the midfield can be when teams break on us.
Allen seems to be injury prone and can't be relied on and Lucas and Gerrard are not the most mobile anymore. All that leaves only Henderson with the inclination to track back but he is not a great tackler.
And the way Ridgers set the midfield up at times , with it being very attack minded with Countiho and I think even Sterling being in the middle three also contributed to the defence being exposed on a regular basis.
Not to say that Sterling and Countihno never helped out, they did but not consistently enough and that's understandable as they need their energy for the other direction.
All that left the defence under pressure in almost every game and I recall a stat that Mignolet at one stage had the most saves, suggesting he was also exposed a lot. I'd be surprised if he wasn't up there for the most saves made out the top ten keepers. Add to the amount of goals conceded and it suggests a defence being put under pressure regularly and a midfield offering inconsistent cover due to their offensive bent.
The signing of Can and the regular linking with lallana suggest that Rodgers is looking for players that can carry the ball forward but also be very effective in tracking back and busting a gut in trying to relieve the defence.
I would be happy with the in,y defensive signings being full backs that are playing I. Their natural positions and offer more going forward.
Id rather replace Johnson and Enrique with better options, than replacing our 4-5 (7 if we include Wisdom and Illori) centre backs. I believe Sakho can be a huge player next for us and Agger and Skrtel are still very able players.

It's all quite possible that I'm talking shoite but how would I know, I'm a sap.

Our defense and midfield definitely need to work together better on limiting openings for the opposition.

As well as more technical changes, I'd love if we just implemented a very simple rule - when the last man back is in possession, another defender runs behind to cover. Just in case.

First thing that struck me watching that Can highlight video is that he doesn't seem to know when to release the ball. Gets himself in some great positions only to go nowhere or take a silly shot instead of squaring. Hopefully Rodgers can stamp that out.

In one of the clips of him posted in the last few days, you can hear the commentator say that he was slow to release the ball. He said it a way that it seemed to be a common occurrence.

I'll try to find the video...

    EDIT: Here it is

Have we been linked to Ricardo Quarsema, Arda Turan or Balasz Dzsudszak yet?

There's very little that irks me more on the pitch than that kind of poor decision making/carelessness, hopefully it's not a common occurence.

I'm intrigued of course by his signing, but I'm also concerned. I also read that he's a bit of a hot head.

We need a settled defence going forward.

Sakho and Moreno are the future of the defence for the next 5 season at least.

Agger and Skrtel have a season or two max left at Liverpool if they don't go this summer.

I would like to get a right back and a CB partner for Sakho so if we can get Lorven this season we should go for it.

I just don't see Flanagan as a first team starter he would be great cover for both fullback positions so I would be on the look out for a top class right back.

I would love to offer Everton £15-17m for Coleman but that's never going to happen.

    Yup.

He seems to be the Shoot-First-Pass-Later kind of Player.

But there are things that are very Positive on that Video too. One, is that he can Dribble. Among our CMs, it's only Allen that does that, with any Frequency. And that Skill will prove Invaluable, when Teams try to Press us.

Another, is that he is willing to Drive the Ball to the Teeth of the Defence, regardless of whether he has Support or not. We currently don't have a CM that does that.

I'm sure he has his weakness but even in a short video you can see what some of his strengths are. Big, physical and athletic. Can drive forward with powerful runs. Just seems a little raw. With good coaching he could really come on a ton.

Are we definitely signing Moreno then? If so, that's nice.

    Would have preferred Tony Kroos.

Ya know what, with Flanno now moving to right back, Liverpool really have no need for him. Unless he fancies being backup to Mig.

I hear that Kroos is also excellent at cutting half time oranges and cleaning boots. Sign him up.

Seems a formality at this stage. Unai Emery was saying today in a Spanish paper Moreno is more or less off, despite wanting to keep him.

You will have to make do with the bi-annual 'Liverpool sign Bent' story.

And now for something quite different: I've a passing interest in the likes of Dave Aspery and Tim Ferris etc. (Enlightening citizen scientists or charlatans - who knows?) Anyhow, as part of a recent podcast they did together they discussed nootropic substances and Ferris mentioned he was partial to Yerba Mate tea - that odd looking drink Suarez is regularly seen drinking. Apparently the beverage contains a combination of at least three pharmacologically active compounds, similar in effect to other nootropic drugs and Ferris attributes it to assisting in creative work and help making difficult mental connections. I'd be curious if Luis attributes it at all to any aspect of his style of play!

I've some yerba mate here. Doesn't taste great, but has a nice effect. Calm focused energy, and no crash like coffee.

Also, I'll not hear a bad word said about Meireles. The man is bad ass.

Just read the last few pages of this thread about Emre Can on a Bayern forum and the majority of them seem gutted that we're getting him.

Chelsea fans said the same about Borini.

Getting Can from Bayer Leverkusen will hopefully work out but our last three signings from them have been Yesil, Voronin and Meijer:eek:

We said the same about LDV, but to be fair Can is more established than any of them.

Borini had done well for Swansea, but that was still in the championship. Can has Bundesliga and Champions League experience.

For those who like the stat bomb pictures.

Here is Henderson and Can's. Kind of looks like the would compliment each other to me.

The amount of people writing of Can without him kicking a ball for us is incredible the past week or so.

From reading about him and watching snippets he seems like far from the finished article but has lots of potential. Who knows how he'll perform for us. Is he even gonna be a starter?

I certainly won't be writing him off yet.

I was asking for a Sterling loan in October, and hadn't much opinion on Sturridge when he came ffs!

Someone mentioned recently alright (Nuri or Kess I think) that Can was on a par with Henderson workrate wise
