If Lallana was signed he'd be nearly guaranteed game time in a 4-3-3 alongside Henderson and Gerrard. The amount of work he gets through is amazing

Will we all be doing the Can Can @11am ?

I'm guessing we will all be 'Lovren' the next piece of news. ;)

Really hard to tell much about Can for most of us who hadn't heard about him before this window.

But from the little I can dig up it seems to be a decent move for a player who can fill a lot of positions and seems to be highly rated, playing through all of Germany's underage levels.

If he's good enough to continue that progression and make it into the senior German squad in a couple of years, then it should be money well spent.

Very hard to know how it will turn out. The fee is substantial enough for a 20 year-old with just one full season under his belt, but not extortionate, and I would say that we shouldn't lose out too much on this deal even if he doesn't quite make the cut.

Seems like a decent enough move, but what would I know. He may not make an immediate impact though

What are you basing this feeling on?

I don't know a huge amount about this chap but I won't be writing him off before playing a game for the club.

Oh absolutely nothing! Just a gut feeling, had the same feeling when we signed Aspas but then again had a feeling Alberto would be good :p

If we were to sign say Lallana, Moreno and Lovren as well (just based on the rumours), I would be slightly worried, as I think we will have spent a lot of money but we are not guaranteed to have a much stronger starting XI, although the squad would be a lot stronger.

I suppose we don't have the muscle to compete with the likes of Chelsea and City so we kind of need to sign the players before they become world class, and I do have confidence in Rodgers to do this, but after the season we have had and the money we are expected to spend this summer I would be disappointed if we don't sign at least one top class player. Nice to get a bit of business done early however!

No there wouldn't. The problem there being purchasing the houses behind the Centenary Stand. Considering how long it took to buy the properties to get the Main Stand extended , I wouldn't be holding my breath on any expansion beyond the Anfield Road end

Probably been discussed plenty but does make you wonder why they didn't go ahead with the original plans for a new stadium. Those two stands are 20 years old, and while fine at the moment would hardly a modern viewing experience (going on heresay in the Kop's case). In another 15-20 years will they still be acceptable to season ticket holders? Is 58k really the biggest capacity a club like Liverpool can have in the medium to long term future?

OMG how embarrassing you dont know much about him. Let me explain. He's a box to box midfielder specialising in playing as a deep lying playmaker but prefers to me called a centre midfielder with aspirations of playing as a defensive midfielder but whos best position is at right back.

We're strengthening the squad rather than the first 11 which is fair enough.

I don't agree with Rodgers assessment that we need to sign players that can go into the first eleven. Our first eleven is fine, it's the squad that is letting us down - our subs bench was pitiful for most of the season and gave us nothing.

Having said that, of course like every team we can improve on our first eleven particularly at the back.

Of the names strongly linked or signed = lambert, can, moreno, lallana, well none of them are guaranteed starters for me although moreno and lallana will probably get plenty of action if signed

Moreno would be first choice left back and Lallana would be a certain starter as well.

The squad needed to be improved without doubt. Can and Lambert will do that. If Suarez leaves for a significant sum then im sure further investment in the first XI and squad will follow on as a result

Mainly right back. He's kept Kroos out for a year or two now.

We're always worrying about everyone else improving....isn't it possible we are gonna improve as well?
Can and Lambert will improve us, the problem is that Fabregas and Costa improves Chelsea even more. With the margin so fine between ourselves and Chelsea last season, you'd have to say they'll move ahead of us relatively speaking.

    £4M on Lambert.
    £10M on Can.
    £16M on Moreno (hopefully)
£25M on an as yet unknown attacker.

£55M of spending, I don't think we can really ask for much more than that (assuming Suarez doesn't leave for megabucks).

    Centerback, perhaps?

Wasn't the rumour doing the rounds that we were likely to spend 70m? Have a few sales to move on after the WC too, I would imagine.

Apart from a solid centre half or 2?

Yeah, I was just joking. Seen him a few times last season and he was up and down but the potential for a good player is there and the outlay isn't crazy or anything. A relatively cheap pint which could really pay off.

    £9.7m for Emre Can.

You can't argue with that and him being a handsome bastard surely puts us past Southampton in the good looking league.

doomsday plan in case Suarez guys; what world class attacker could we realistically get to fill the void? Pedro? Alexis Sanchez? Markovic? Reus? Do a Spurs on it and take punts on all of the above hoping one of them will fit the bill?

To be honest, nobody we could realistically get comes close - simple as that

Nice bit of versatility, with Can, and he has a lot of decent traits which can be built upon. From what I can gather, (watched hardly any bundesliga this year), he has played 7 or 8 games at LB. Few at RM and LM. Then the bulk of his games come at CM and DM, with one or two games even seeing him as an AM.

This is predominantly taken from crappy clips and transfermarkt, though.

With him being so young, and clearly versatile with a good engine and decent pace, you can say that for 9-10m, this is pretty much a low risk transfer. Can't see Liverpool making much of a loss, even if this doesn't work out.

Happy enough with the deal, despite my general ignorance. Now, whos next? :D

    1. Not a position we are short of players for.
    2. Not a replacement for an expected departure.
    3. Not very expensive, and likely to develop further, so a good investment.
    4. Not the last week of August.

Yeh, seems like a panic buy alright... ;)

(Yes, I see now you were joking...)

Maybe the long term plan is to make him a CB, or holding DM at least? He has the physique for it...

Was getting very worried about the handsome coefficient since Pepe's departure and Flannos been no help whatsoever.

You look at a team like Southamton and just have to admire buying policy
