I'm not sure would there be more room for expansion unless they bought up a load more houses. The Kop and Centenary stands have houses in close proximity..

Will we all be doing the Can Can @11am ?

I come in peace, with a question. Just caught the ticker saying Deloitte studied the 2012/13 season in depth and gave the results, it had that Liverpool made a loss of £70million, the biggest amount in the league. What was the reason for that?

Champions League lifestyle, Europa League income.

High earners still on the books for much of that season, pay-offs to Dalglish and his staff, losses on transfer activity (Carroll, Aquilani, Downing - though not sure if these are included in this period), compensation to Swansea for Rodgers.

A big part from a £50M interest free loan from FSG to get rid of loans from the previous owners. And infrastructure costs relating to the new stadium.

That 50m covered the 35m spent on a hole in the ground that never got dug!

Yep and you can see with the plaza aspect in the mock ups that they are trying to future proof the ground for that if you will.

Not sure if the houses around those areas are occupied in the manner that the houses around the Anfield Road area were unoccupied.

I would imagine that if necessary the club could take up those houses if needs be

Yep... It's was a shorter financial year as well.

Seems the club dumped all their bad finances into that term which is a good thing, and it now takes off the shackles a bit, and we are now on a very sound footing.

Don't expect anything like those results again in the near future.

But we are not venture capitalists, looking to maximise our investment. We are in the business of winnign trophies. You cannot do that without a couple of World Class players. So selling by far our best player for ANY price will not improve our chances of winning in the medium term...

Agree totally with you Dickerty but football clubs don't exist in a vacuum either. Commercial reality like gravity cannot be defied. If Suarez really wants to go and Madrid (as opposed to Arsenal) really want him LFC can do SFA about it other than negotiate the best fee possible. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell Suarez would be happy to stay on if LFC refused to sell and if he's not happy to stay do you think he's going to put in the effort? All that would happen is he has a terrible start to the season, burns his bridge with the club and fans and come Xmas Madrid would be back in with a heavily discounted offer at which time LFC will have no negotiating leverage whatsoever. They will be faced with a choice between taking a crap offer from Madrid for a disgruntled player who's looked a shadow of himself for the last 4 months or keep him and win the moral victory but lose out heavily financially. There's no way FSG will be that stupid.

Players move on from every club, that's life. No one is irreplaceable. The best thing to do is get the best fee you can and re-invest it as wisely as possible to find the next two Suarez quality players.

Back to Suarez, if he does leave for 70/80m then we need to replace 30 goals a season. We won't do that with 1 player so that money would need to be spread out over 3 players all capable of 10/15 goals each. Also I would love if Jese was part of any possible deal, I would have him before any other Madrid player barring the obvious one.

News on the official site pending?

Never mind, I see it on Twitter - scrolling ticker on the LFC channel saying news coming at 11.
Could be the announcement of our new official Crab Juice sponsor?

I read that as we dug a hole to bury a 35million piece of rubbish in, and I felt a bit better.

You are never going to replace Suarez but you would improve your overall unit from the proceeds in conjunction with the funds already available for the summer

Apparently its a done deal - its in the can.

    Emre Cam signs for Liverpool

    20131023_0410.jpg

It's official: The Premier League runners-up FC Liverpool have submitted a bid to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the Germany U-21 international Emre Can (20). Can has activated a release clause and is set to join Liverpool on 1 July.
“Emre Can has developed very quickly at Bayer 04 Leverkusen over the past twelve months. We wanted to keep Emre at Leverkusen but the release clause is part of his contract. So we wish him all the best and lots of success in his time in the Premier League,” declared Bayer 04 CEO Michael Schade in response to the transfer of the midfielder. Can joined Leverkusen from Bayern Munich at the start of last season.

A loan from the owners wouldn't affect our profit or loss though.

The infrastructure costs are probably a good chunk of it, as well as the consultancy and legal fees around the stadium also.

I have a bad feeling about this signing. Can't put my finger on why, but don't think Can will be a success at the club.

I'm getting a Coutinho vibe off this one.

He's going to work out fine.

    Who's next I wonder?

Moreno should be favourite I'd imagine. Everything seems to be on hold with regards to Lallana/Lovren etc

For some reason i thought of this

So 14m (est) gets us 2 players with first team experience, 1 who has 10-15 PL goals per season and is going to the WC and second who has CL experience and a season of Bundesliga (and is 20 years old).

Now compare that with the 15m we spend last season on Aspas and Alberto...

    58k is about right.

I wonder is there any room for future expansion on top of that?

Surely there would have to be? I highly doubt the plan is to leave the remaining two stands as they are for another couple of decades, given that they could probably do with being replaced even now. Its hard to believe that its taken them this long to completely refurbish the main stand, given that there were calls for that as early as the mid 90's. I cant imagine how id feel as a season ticket holder sat behind one of those concrete poles for years on end

What are you basing this feeling on?

I don't know a huge amount about this chap but I won't be writing him off before playing a game for the club.

No there wouldn't. The problem there being purchasing the houses behind the Centenary Stand. Considering how long it took to buy the properties to get the Main Stand extended , I wouldn't be holding my breath on any expansion beyond the Anfield Road end

We're strengthening the squad rather than the first 11 which is fair enough.

I don't agree with Rodgers assessment that we need to sign players that can go into the first eleven. Our first eleven is fine, it's the squad that is letting us down - our subs bench was pitiful for most of the season and gave us nothing.

Having said that, of course like every team we can improve on our first eleven particularly at the back.

Of the names strongly linked or signed = lambert, can, moreno, lallana, well none of them are guaranteed starters for me although moreno and lallana will probably get plenty of action if signed
