So earlier as we were chatting I got the green light off the boss :-) to go to see the Irish open this year in Cork.

As there's no thread here I thought there would be no harm in starting one as there should be some in form Irish guys in with a shout this year hopefully.

It should make for a really great Irish open the way things are going ATM Lowry, McIlroy and to a lesser extent Harrington have been playing lovely the last while which should help to peak interest this year.

Anyone else on here going down to spectate?

Played it today in junior scratch cup. The place is looking great. The new tee boxes will make it harder for sure.
Hopefully the weather will be kind for that week!

Where do you think might be a good place to view it from that mightn't exactly be thronged with people?

Hard enough to say. Somewhere around the green on the par 5 10th could be good. Lot will go for it in two. Plus from there you can also see the tee shots on the 11th (par 3)

    Old 6th tee box
Would let you see approaches to the par 5 5th and tee shots off new 6 th tee

If you can sit there - the wall at the back of 13th green. Also see 12th (at a distance), 10th & 7th greens. Might also be able to catch the 6th & 11th - depending on the trees.

Thanks for that, that's the kind of info that you'd never work out on your own having never been there before.

Another good spot (if you can get to it) would be behind the 16th green - you can see the 1st green, 16th green & tee-off on the 17th.

I'll be down on the range for the most part.

Will follow some of the marquee groups too.

    You call them LOUD!!!

I've just been shopping........ and the get up I just bought will have me barred from Greystones, so when I'm done with it, you can have for your next photoshoot

I didn't stop at myself though, the kids and the missus have been included......... 4 has more chance than one I reckon and with a planned holiday to Dubai, I could do with first prize :)

Now just have to rely on the postman

They are the loudest (and only) pair I have! Contacted Royal & Awesome but they couldn't get the Old Tom Trews to me in time. Where are yours coming from? And what's the prize?

I remember being in Killarney in 2011 and you could not go into Practice Area.

Is it the same this time does anyone know? I hope not.

Yes afaik it is family friendly, although there may be some areas that are difficult to acces with the buggy, but for the most part you'd be grand I'd say.
