Hopefully out in water rock myself in the morning. Really is an overlooked course couple of lovely holes in it.
Surely the dubs would come down the M8 which might leave access "easier" from the east.

From Ballygarvan you're going through Carrigaline, heading towards Ringaskiddy and taking a left to Monkstown. You'll eventually get to the ferry in Glenbrook.

Here are directions on Google Maps.

    Lads,
I'd like to combine attending the Irish Open Thursday and Friday with playing a couple of early rounds each morning.

Monkstown Golf Club will have open singles on the Thursday and Friday. €20 for visitors. You can book on their website, click on the main banner to get to the BRS booking page.

15 minutes from the Jack Lynch tunnel.

Drive to the course each morning or train from city centre? We are staying out near Douglas.

I'm going to try the cross river ferry from Passage West on Thursday morning. See how that goes. Thursday will be the quietest of days though so it will be hard the judge.

It's a shame they always put the big non-irish names out with the irish lads on the first couple of days.

I'd love to follow Manassero for example, but since he's playing in a group with Clarke and directly after Harrington/McIlroy it'll be hard to see anything. I'll have to wait until the weekend and hope he makes the cut.

Surely the irish lads would draw a big crowd no matter who they play with? No need to put them with the likes of Manassero/Casey imo.

I'd love to follow the irish lads btw but the big crowds put me off (I'm not the tallest).

Shame about the withdrawals, I was looking forward to seeing Daly and Koepka in particular.

    2 bells.

Not sure what the format is, could it be a shotgun start?

I've never gone to a golf event before, tickets are down as being 35€ at the gate. Can someone who's been give a quick bit of advice as to the likely overall cost involved for two. Is there student tickets? Parking? tae and hang sandwiches allowed?

Fota is going to look stunning on tv this weekend if the weather is as predicted. Hopefully it will be a great advertisement for Irish golf unlike last year.

They were unlucky with the weather last year but I still think Carton House is a good venue for it. I hope the Fota organisation is of the same high standards. I'll find out for myself on Saturday.

Yes unlucky with the weather but the Montgomerie is in real life and looks like on tv a very bland course and does not sell Irish golf well imo.

I've never seen a golf course look in better condition than Fota when it last hosted the Irish Open.
The fairways were better than greens in alot of courses ,it received huge praise from the pros,I expect more of the same this year .

Obviously I'd love to see one of our Irish lads win but failing that I'd love to see Matthew Fitzpatrick win or at least top 10. It's his first event as a pro and you'd love to see him kick off on a positive note early on.

Drove by Fota the other night on the dualler to Middleton. You can see the 10th fairway from the road and OMG it looked unreal. So green, so lush. I really can't wait to walk in the gates tomorrow morning :)

This is my first irish open, heading down for saturday and sunday with tickets to both days and saying in Fota resort. Looking forward to it now, will be my first irish open and first time in Fota.

Just a quick question, as we are staying in the hotel, it would be nice if we were allowed to nip back to the room for change of clothes or a bit of food or whatever, does anyone know if you are allowed go in and out of the course or is it a case of once you've handed your tickets in you cant get back out. I know there are loads of facilities in there for food and drink and stuff , but im just thinking if it starts lashing rain, it would be nice to nip back to the hotel room for a change of clothes

I know it's only the pro am, but still!
I parked in car park 2..... Between hotel and clubhouse. Walked straight into the clubhouse without being asked for any ticket. Might be easy enough to get in from the hotel...

Now coming from the course side they are checking everyone, might have been just a blip!
