Ryan, you appear to have missed these two posts addressed to you.

Either austerity is for everyone as we're told or it is not, which is it ?
Can you point out where I claimed they should be detained at airports or such like ?

I'd like you to find where I claimed that. I suppose if you're stuck you can always move onto pretending what I said.

Well seeing as you consistantly refuse to.answer questions and continue to.spout the same ****e " Austerity should be for everybody so why no austerity for the rich blah blah blah" people have to eventually guess what it is you mean. Answer the questions posed to you and then people won't have to guess what you mean.

Remind me who you were again, oh yes the guy caught telling lies . . . your posts have great creditability now, lol

Look up the word austerity in the dictionary and answer the question.

ryan101 how much wealth do you want to be taken off the richest in the country?

Please explain what you actually want to happen.

Do you want to government to show up at the door and ask for 50% of their wealth nicely?

Please explain what you actually want to happen.

Do you want the wealthy to be put on the breadline?

Please explain what you actually want to happen.

It is you just don't want to accept it because you don't understand the tax system. You have made claims that simply are not true and refuse to answer questions when asked.

Considering how new your account is and the number of posts I would question your sincerity. I am out, you have no value to this discussion

It's very simple, if austerity is for everyone, then it should be for everyone, not just ordinary working people.

You didn't answer a single one of my questions.

And austerity has been for everyone. CGT has doubled. Inheritance tax relief has been slashed. Residency rules have been toughened. PRSI must now be paid on far more forms of investment profits. Not to mention the fact that the wealthy will also be receiving water charges. Etc Etc Etc.

Same question to you, given the 250 wealthiest in Ireland are now wealthier than ever before and that austerity is supposedly for everyone, what austerity have they endured ?

They pay most of the tax take in this country and are more likely to use less of the facilities that are paid for by the tax they pay.

Plus they are more likely than Joe Soap to be employers.

And, relative to income, spend less. They save a much higher percentage of income, not allowing this money back into the economy. Trickle down economics does not work and just ties up the money out of the general economy.

Also someone on "average" wage paying tax cuts into essentials, never mind luxuries
Someone earning 100-150K+ paying normal tax plus higher band does not cut into the money that they need just to get buy. It MAY limit their upper level luxury spend or reduce the money removed from economy through savings

We've all endure that, and the ordinary working person is now less well off and barely making ends meet.

As the 250 richest in Ireland are now richer than ever, what austerity did they endure exactly ?

I'm quite ready to acknowledge that others across all sections of society are feeling the pain. Where did I claim anyone had it easy?

Your conclusion by the way is flawed, even without having the link. Just because someone has worked at some point in the past doesn't mean they weren't unemployed from the boom through to now. Even allowing for net flows it's generally accepted 4% represents 'full employment ' for Ireland. And yes some may work in the black economy- surely that's just means we should have better tax oversight of the black economy? That group are certainly doing better than a base social welfare case.

Now would you care to address any of the substantive points in my post?

What substantive points? You've basically confirmed what I said in my post. People like you are for low income earners and those on social welfare to suffer while those who can afford it should get away with it. The recession has not affected everyone, it has barely touched some people.
I will put the links to prove that only 10,000 people or so have remained unemployed throughout the boom and still remain unemployed when I have enough posts.

Woah seems to be talking about the increase in long term unemployed.

I am curious about the overpaid that have managed to go through the downturn unscathed. My tax bill has gone up quite a bit while my income went down. I can't see how anybody avoided this.

I suspect it is that some people still have good income relative to others but that doesn't mean they haven't suffered. I could easily have had a luxury car for the tax increases alone. The fact I didn't have one means I didn't have it to lose but for somebody else they may have had to give such a thing up. Just because it was a luxury doesn't mean you wouldn't feel the loss.
Everybody tightened their belts as far as I know hence the low consumer index. Increased taxes effected everyone and also the economy

A lot of peoples earnings stayed around the same level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

A lot of peoples earnings stayed around the same level.
That doesn't really mean much as their taxes went up. They end up with less money so not matching what you have said

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

I just had a thought why are the 250 richest people earning more money than before?

Their tax went up because none of them would accept that they were being overpaid. It's easy for FG and Labour supporters to say that those on social welfare receive too much money but not so easy when talking about the many overpaid jobs.

They endured the same. They are richer due to investing their wealth in profitable investments. They would have become even richer if it wasn't for the austerity imposed.

What are you struggling to understand ryan? It's a pretty simple concept.

How is the tax system supposed to decide which jobs are overpaid and which are not?

Or is any well-paid job overpaid?

    What is considered "overpayed"?
