Super cattle. I'm just wondering if you have ever kept any heifers off Dubai for breeding and if so have they much milk?

No. But I wouldn't rule it out looking at his figures. Particularly if the cow had milk. There's a couple there so it's likely we will keep one or two!

ABI hasn't strong milk figures but we've 2 good daughters of a cow with milk.

She the one with the red mark on her side earlier up? What's the mark, I meant to ask.

It's the same cow alright. I dunno what the mark is, I think I noticed before a reddish hue on some white cattle from the phone. She's a PB Charolais cow, she has an alright MBP Lim heifer calf at foot there somewhere.

GC, you should be ashamed of yourself showing off like that!!!
Great looking cattle to be fair.
Will you breed from the Ba heifer or is she a bit too muscly! ABI is definitely a bull where the figures do not do him justice.

If you get a chance through a picture of the pbr limm and her new calf.

    I know I'm absolutely shameless :-)
The Lim cow is a little unsettled in herself with her new calf, and I didn't want to be annoying her. I will get a pic soon though. The calf is flying it.

GC - great cattle and I presume they are even more super due to the Blonde influence in your herd ;)

Agree top notch, fantastic cattle & good grass.
You're a role model to us all.
Do you keep your heifers to beef?

We are lucky in a way I used Landais on some PB Ch heifers a good few years back and ended up with some lovely ChX Ba. The BaX cows tend to cross well with Ch.

Christ, less of the accolades I'm starting to blush. A few good cows over the years bred to decent AI bulls and cull the worse performers is all we do. It takes time to get a good herd of cows but anyone can do it if the are consistant.
We do keep all our heifers, either bull them or beef them.

The Blonde heifer won't be bred from I'd think, she's fairly muscular, though if she was PB you'd be happy enough with her! She's out of a BAX cow by the BA bull ZBD (Budore Donald).

Keeping milk is a priority with us.

See the good long red Lim heifer there. We were gonna bull her only fear was a lack of milk!

Doing breeding off best here too, with intention of getting to where you are.
Have had tough choices on muscly heifers, & sometimes selling a good due to cash flow.
On your system, would keeping less cows & more heifers be more profitable, or vice versa?

You won't be long getting to where ya want to be. A bit every year!
Keeping cows aint profitable. Keeping cows that produce average calves certainly aint profitable. Buying the right heifer aint easy either.

    Totally agree.
    All about balance, & market

Fair play GC, excellent stock. I'm really taking a liking to them blondes this year. We bought a bull to run with the heiffers and bought a few incalf cows, two of them had blonde calves. I couldn't believe how hardy as calves they are.

Interesting thread! Lack of milk is the biggest issue I think.. how do you overcome that?

It's not simple, and we do get it wrong sometimes and would have to cull because if it.
I suppose a good starting point is breeding replacements from a cow with milk. Using a bull that will hopefully hold onto the drop of milk.
    It is a challenge though.

Nice cattle there, Genghis. Have you some way of stretching them, cause they all seem to have great length?:o

Had a Fl22 heifer that I was keeping for a neighbour that never came into standing bulling last summer... Late in season was getting her ready for killing when she stood properly for bullock so gave her Shorthorn Lissoy Jumbo LYJ for the crack and she had nice little bull calf this morning

Easy calved and 281 days gestation

Came home from work last week to find that the ESB (or whatever their right name is now) contractors had been in

Have they repaired it yet something similar happened last year was highlighted here the ESB blamed contractor

Feck! It's like they seen the wet spot and drove straight for it. If they came down along on the right by the fence I'd say wouldn't have done half that rooting.

We have a sub contractor coming in every two years or so cutting hedges under wires. I see this year he has a lad with him to get down and open fences..... two years ago he just drove through them!!

Had they your permission to do works in the first place? They are responsible for the damage and must reinstate. The lads that work cutting the trees under the lines also have to ask permission to enter private property.

Yes they had permission, they have been around now for over 2 months re-stringing a 100KV line. What cheesed me most was they made no attempt to fix and I had to ring the line manager to get it sorted.

What's your opinion on Parthenaise Genghis? Ever tempted or do you think the blonde is better?

Kids are clever enough.. My 5 year old was down with me over the weekend looking at our new pigs, she really wanted to know which one would become rashers and which one would be the sausages !
Naturally she insists their names are "Rasher & Sausage"

She wanted to know what was it like for them to become rashers and sausages and did they mind

I must stick up a snap of ours..

Only ever had one, a heifer by IRX outta an Newry Simm heifer. She was a nice heifer. I must try an odd one. There's a decent PB herd near me and he has some powerful cattle. Some of them are big big cows!
