Nah, I actually explain what I mean with the cages, equipment etc and then they realise it's kinda logical:) so teach them from the very start, then you do not have to explain it to guys with closed ignorant minds;-)
What exactly is your issue here? I've skipped through most of the last bit.

Squats in the cage. Everyone one happy?
Curls in the cage/rack. Frustrating. Agreed?

Barbell floor presses in the cage. Not worthy. You lost me tbh. Why?
DBs are an alternative, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to use a barbell. Especially if your not a pussy and lift 180kg.

How do you feel about heavy overhead presses in the cage?
Where should we do rack pulls instead?

A great investment would be to buy a Cage & weights for about 500e

Never said that barbell floor presses are not worthy. Read carefully please. Overhead presses in the cage? Alrite if you are little hobbit , you might not break the top bar of the cage;-) and now seriously, you can do it outside the rack with extra "adjustable hooks" attached to the cage outside the rack, while other person can do squats inside or whatever they want inside the cage.

    Says who?

    Me. And common courtesy agrees.

If the gyms very busy, common courtesy says 10 - 15 mins is enough.

I floor pressed out of the power rack today for like 45mins just because this thread reminded me how much fun floor pressing is...

    Your move

I'm writing this from the power rack and I can see COH over in the corner. Hi COH!

People should have some self-awareness in the gym. Sitting panting on a machine for 2-3 minutes between sets when someone could easily get a 30-40 second in in that time frame.

Self awarenenss? People should ask to work in if they want to. I shouldn't have to be aware of everyone waiting to use a piece of equipment I'm on. My focus is on lifting when I'm at the gym.

And when you're sitting there in between sets for several minutes taking a breather spacing out? I just stand up if I see someone standing by and ask them if they want to work in.

In any case, a lot of these problems boil down to gym's over selling their memberships.

It's not my job to baby people if they're afraid to ask to work in.

Ah yes, it must be all that testosterone from lifting those big heavy weights. You probably have a lot more focus than I do in the gym.

You have a huge amount of focus when you're lifting on what you're actually doing. I need more of that instead of looking around me - visualise the next set and all that while I sit on the leg curl machine.

Getting my breath back, remembering what set I'm on, preparing for the next lift, possibly setting up my camera to check form. Keeping track of my rest periods, chalking up if deadlifting, going through lifting queues to ensure I'm doing them right etc etc.

No I don't do all of these all the time. But I do the majority at the least and sure I take the do glance around the gym but I am not going to exert any effort what so ever in looking for people who may or may not want to use the rack I'm in. It doesn't take much effort to come over and ask can you work in.

If someone's doing a heavy set that needs a 3-minute rest, then their first thought when they re-rack won't be "i wonder if anyone wants to use this? I'd better go around and ask".

But if you ask they'll gladly move to let you work in.

    Yes excellent point.

What I find annoying and happens quite often is when groups of two or three get onto the only squat rack. It's been happening a lot more recently with the GAA kicking back up and if you're on any kind of a time schedule you'll have to reconsider. The rack can be out of commission for half an hour easily. I agree that once you're on a piece of equipment it's yours for a long as you like but a bit of common sense wouldn't go amiss. Watching three fellas having the craic over the squat rack for the guts of my workout is pretty grating!

If they're wasting a lot of time fluting about, I understand, but if it's 3 lads rotating sets and not overly wasting time, I have no issue with that.

It is annoying if you go in planning to squat but that's the luck of the draw. I've been there.

    What's wrong with recording yourself?

Are you lifting weights on a film set?

Probably best not to feed the troll. This is the same guy who thinks women shouldn't squat.

In my gym there are 4 guys that come in and hog the squat rack for an hour. Other days them come in and hog the two chest press stands (two on each one) When one guy finishes he talks to the other guys for a few minutes and only then does the 2nd guy start to squat.

This happened to me on two seperate occasions in a week when I wanted to use the squat rack. So after doing my other exercises and seeing that those guys where still using the rack I went up and asked could I work in with them. Got the "No understand, no English" and they started laughing so I waited until the next guy was finished squatting and when they went to have their 7th coffee morning chat I started taking a couple of the weights off the bar to do a squat set. They gestured that they were not finished but I just carried on. When I was finished my set I gestured for the next person to use and when all four of them had done their next set I jumped in again.

Sometimes you just have to be assertive with some people who think that they gym is there solely for their benefit.

So the conclusion is that a lot of gyms dont have enough squat racks?

yeah , but if you squat 200kg+ then the cage would be beneficial;-)
    Christ I thought I was a machine doing 105 today :(
My thinking of free weights is that most people are happy to let you do your thing if you ask them, I only started doing them in January when my coach told me to.
Now the lads doing them with me would mostly be team mates but they seem the same towards other people aswell
I generally find the gym to be one of the more socially open place where we all just help each other out :o

After fully reading the thread, I think I might just be in a gym with sound lads, christ a lot of nonsense

Four guys getting their Squats done in an hour? Pretty efficient if you ask me!
