4am in Swords no idiots,6am WW, and if I really have to train in the evening time ( what I hate )then I go payg in Baldoyle. It's funny, at least 1 guy is being kicekd out from the gym a week, for not putting the weights back, no using towels or talking over the phone in the gym room( last time I saw that haha ) and distracting other members, texting on the bench, etc, it's so funny when you see those idiots faces when they get refund and being asked to go and collect their ego on the way out haha.

Not many people do 200kg bp, but more ppl do 200kg squats. Cage chest press is not about the weight ( wait for it some people will say it is haha), so they can go and do it with the dumbells and giver priority to the guys who want to squat, thank feck I go to proper gyms with no idiots:D

Reals gyms have more than one cage

I presume you're talking about flyefit in Swords?

And you're telling us that someone was kicked out of there for not putting the weights back, being on the phone and not using a towel?

I wonder if they know you're spouting this ****e about their gym. Hang on a few mins till I point them in the direction of this thread.

In fairness, if he had his towel on the rack, it's his for as long as he likes! Same as the magic blinky lights when you need to manufacture a parking spot...

Well there isn't many gyms open at 4am in Swords.

But nice back tracking there mate. Keep up the good work.

I'd be pretty sure there are idiots in the gym at 4am anyway. One of them is posting right here!

And stop lying. There's no planet fitness mentality in any of the gyms you've mentioned above.

There is one gym that at least one person is being kicked out a week for not following the rules but you would not be allowed, egos guys and idiots are banned on the spot. I train in the morning to avoid people , idiots like you who only assume and make false accussations and are not able to read text with understanding etc. In Swords 2 gyms are opened at 4am, look around and open your eyes.

Actually a few places I can think of don't have bench press racks, they just have more cages.

Makes sense. Why have a single use piece of equipment taking up space, when you could put in a multi use piece of equipment like a cage in there?

Doug - you have a point. But some people prefer normal bench press on proper bench than a cage. Eeryone is different and has different needs.

That makes sense, I wish my place would follow that mentality! They have dedicated incline, decline and flat benches, smith machines, but only one power rack (and no squat rack).

But you can do normal bench press in a cage. I actually do sometimes if it's the morning and there's noone around to spot me.

If you really felt this way, you wouldn't be making an arbitrary statement about what people can and can't use a piece of equipment for.

this is meandering off topic me thinks

What else are you going to unrack th bar from?
The powercage is the only place I'd consider suitable for heavy floor presses.

It's a perfectly legitimate exercise. The OP clearly didn't realise that. Nobody's fault. The 10 more sets, was unusual alright.

Fair enough, i thought for some reason they were dumbbell presses.

If you bench press over 180kg on bench then you would feel the difference between free standing bench inside the power cage or let's say proper cybex bench press. Of course you cannot feel the difference when bench pressing pussy 120kg or so. It is completely different balance etc, especially when bench is leveled, bolted to the floor and set right. Pulling a free standing bench into the cage is not the same. With big weights precison is everything, but with pussy weights - whathever.

You're coming across as the kind of person that puts people off going to gyms.

Yep I might, but in the gym I help everyone who wants to make progress, I even give free sessions and advices on diet to anyone who is not an ignorant idiot. I share bench with anyone, I have to strip down sometimes 500kg on leg press in order to train with someone who just starts trainings and is weak. Some people ask me on fb or other net services when or if I am training in such a place in such a day because I always help nice people. If I come across as a "bad person" then I do not care, people who know me have different opinion, others I do not care.

never do that, you did not get the point at all but it's ok

however if they are using gloves I always say to get purse the same colour, it will match perfectly:D

I got your point that you're actually a great fella that helps out beginners. But the overriding image you've portrayed in this thread is that if you're not squatting or you're not benching 180kg, you've no business in the power cage.

Which just makes beginners uncomfortable going to the gym, regardless of whether or not you might actually help them when they got there.

Nah, I actually explain what I mean with the cages, equipment etc and then they realise it's kinda logical:) so teach them from the very start, then you do not have to explain it to guys with closed ignorant minds;-)

It's fine not caring what people think of you on here. Normal, even.

But just bear in mind there are people contemplating joining a gym to improve their lifestyle that read threads like this and they're possibly put off.

If you're so helpful to beginners in the gym, then it might be better to portray that. As it is, you're coming across as the kind of person that puts potential beginners off beginning.

Well , if beginners are terrified of some "silly" posts then maybe...

Is it bad gym etiquette to use a power cage or squat stand while doing overhead barbell press? I assumed not as I am not the only one who does it in my gym. Althouigh I do trian in the morning before work while its quiet.

Sometimes I will power clean the bar but most of the time I'll use the rack/stands.

Each gym has different rules. I go to the gym where I like the rules, or go in the morning where is quiet enough.
