Absolutely love Ramsay Bolton,as scary a psychopath as I've seen in many a long day.The bath scene really creeped me out,had an ominous, foreboding feeling to it...
Anybody care to speculate where Reek/Theon Greyjoy's secret mission will take him?Winterfell or Moat Cailin....

Tyrion defo needs to call in Saul Goodman asap.:D

Love for Oberyn and the Mountain to go at it.

That ironborn attack was a bit Monty Python ish.

    Run away, run away!

Ramsey is so creepy. Find it really hard to watch the scenes between him and Theon. He makes my skin crawl.

I remember when he came in first, I said "Cool, it's Simon from Misfits." Well, my joy didn't last long!

    Ramsey is good value.

I was going to suggest maybe Tyrion picks Loras Tyrell, which could cause Tywin to make sure he won to prevent the Tyrells turning against them, but as another poster said, if the person has to agree to it rather than simply be chosen, then Loras wouldn't agree to it.

As for Varys, I'm still on the fence. I don't think he's siding with the Lannisters, but rather that saving Tyrion doesn't serve enough of a purpose. I think Varys deep down is good, but knows he has to do some bad things for the greater good. If he defended Tyrion, he'd be stripped of his position and at best sent away, and then he couldn't do anything.

Edit: Actually, could Tyrion pick Stannis?

What was the story with Varys longing look towards the Iron throne after his conversation with Prince Oberyn? We now know he's got no interest in male or female company but has he some sort of ambition for the ultimate seat of power like Littlefinger?

Link to a non-spoiler map. (A gif so you can zoom in).
If you follow the Kings Road from Storms End to Winterfell you'll come across Moat Cailin.

I absolutely loved that final scene, Drinklage just played it perfectly. My first thought on the trail by combat was Tywin and Tyrion and then Jamie/Tyrion with maybe Jamie letting him win but it's going to be The Moutain and Oberyn. Bronn saving the day again (or trying to) would be fairly silly.

It's a brilliant twist to be fair

I took it as Power in general and not necessarily the iron throne specifically

Its a strategic ruin/stronghold in a region known as 'The Neck' (In between Winterfell and Kings Landing say, where the lands narrow). Its on a marsh so anyone who controls it basically has the upper hand over their enemy and can cut off anything to the south, such is its strategic importance.
From about 2 minutes in here as to why the Bolton's want it.

I don't think he would, and even if he did I can't imagine Stannis agreeing to it. He is set on waging war now, not getting involved in a showtrial/family feud. Stannis will probably do away with the whole lot of them if he gets a chance.

It's a fortress in the Neck near the border between the North and the Riverlands. It's basically three towers with a narrow stone road curving around in such a way that each tower must be attacked separately while archers from the other two towers attack enemy soldiers, this is on the only road to the North and the surrounding area is marsh land so Moat Calin is effectively the gateway to the North.

It's practically impenetrable from the south but easy to take from the north. Moat Calin is the biggest reason the Andals never conquered the North.

Maybe something behind Jaime getting all those combat lessons.

Dany's getting schooled in the business of politics. It's going to take more than a black-and-white set of ideals and a few dragons for her to rule successfully.

fascinating to see all of Tyrion witty barbs come back to bite him in the ass

    Tyrion is a fantastic character

I really liked that episode. I've been itching for the trial to get started. I don't see the fight going any other way except Tywin calling up The Mountain and Oberyn jumping at the chance to have his vengeance. This will sadly spell the end of Oberyn, I fear. I really like him as a character, but I think The Mountain will kick the arse of him.

Didn't Oberyn mention in one of the episodes he prefers knives and daggers? I can see him being far too quick and agile for the Mountain and dispatching him with ease

I dunno...The Mountain is the most feared knight for a reason. If it does actually come down to The Mountain and Oberyn, I can imagine The Mountain being too strong in that case. It will create another dilemma for Tyrion too. He has already had someone else fight his way out of a sticky situation before, it can hardly work a second time? What will he do if the trial by combat backfires? It creates a whole new set of complicated circumstances for Tyrion.

It will also remove the Dorn problem for Tywin. Although Oberyn being killed could be bad news in the long run with regards to creating an alliance with Dorn.

What if, The Mountain comes forth and volunteers for Tyrion (at Tywins behest naturally) and then Oberyn involves himself, again with the theory in Tywins mind, two birds one stone, and he can also flip it to Oberyn that he has arranged for him to have his revenge on The Mountain if it goes that way

Literally just finished the episode so all sorts of ideas running through my head, think it would be a sort of cool little twist?

This would be an interesting twist. ^^ It would be yet another very crafty, pragmatic move on Tywin's part.

How much better is GoT without all the fluting between a dozen streams an episode? Very good episode with a wonderful ending.

The people who think Oberyn would just blindly fight the Mountain are missing the point entirely. Oberyn is smart and he knows full well that Tywin is the real target, the Mountain was just the implement that he used and is of lesser importance. I can see Tywin trying to play Oberyn on-side backfiring spectacularly for him.

I dunno if it was mentioned this week, but is that the same song they play every fecking week the Rains of Castamere rock. They're really getting their use out of it anyways.

Pretty sure it's only when the last scene involves the Lannisters somehow that they use it.

In all the three seasons watching Game of Thrones, that last scene left the most impression on me (apart from the Red Wedding) You could sense his raw hurt and anguish and as a previous poster suggested his treatment as a dwarf must have been taken as an inspiration, Peter Dinkage is a fantastic actor.

I'm pretty sure the Mountain is out pillaging somewhere. Surely they wouldn't delay verdict for a week as someone goes to summon him.

Wish Yara just killed Reek. Would've been a mercy but I know they've invested too much in this arc whilst it's not as interesting for me.

As varys repeated 1000 times he serves the realm and will do what he sees best for that. In this case joffrey's death was what was best but now he wants closure whether he believes tyrion did it or not.

That scene with oberyn spoke a thousand words as well when he was asked what he was interested in, he just glances at the throne. He wants to control the seven kingdoms and knows that he can never be king so he controls it from behind the scenes.

I enjoyed tywin sitting on the throne as well proving who is the true ruler (for quite a while as well) even when robert was king.

Theons rescue was very disappointing. It didnt really show how they escaped or why ramsey let them. He is such a sinister bastard you would think more yorure victims would be like christmas to him. It also shows poor theons affliction with stockholm syndrome again. Really has no back bone. This will he the third time he has switched sides.

I wonder what episode 9 will be this season as the moneyshot episode. The attack on castle black? Stannis' second attempt on king's landing?

As for the trial by combat I unfortunately clicked into the "have" read the books, so know who the sponsors are.

Great episode. The show is definitely better without the stuff up by the wall.

Dany's finding life as a Queen isn't all it's cracked up to be. Her dragons are causing problems and her 'justice' came back to bite her in the ass. She's not as nicey nice as she thought she was.

I enjoyed the rescue attempt. Ramsay is a wonderful psycho. WTF with all the scratches on his body presumably from his romp in the bed. Finding the rescue group seemed to make his day. Poor Reek, wonder if he'll ever find his way back to being Theon. This is GoT so probably not.

Finally, the trial. Jamie and Tyrion were fantastic together in this. Great stuff from both actors. They really are pushing hard to show the kinder side of Jamie this season... aside from THAT scene. It's all about Dinklage though, what a final scene. Nice move with the trial by combat, sticking it to Tywin.

    Worst rescue attempt EVER !!!!

Nah, it was going very well until it turned out that
    1. Theon was down with the dogs who caused a lot of noise which alerted the guards.
    2. Theon didn't want to leave. This held them up and got them cornered.

The running away was quiet funny though :D

I just assumed Cersei had paid or bribed Shae rather than threatened her.

Especially when she turned to Tyrion and said "I'm a whore".

I took it that she was a woman scorned and was getting her revenge on Tyrion.

I thought it might have just been "power" in general. I doubt Vary's has any serious intentions on the throne (unlike LittleFinger) and merely intends on remaining as close to it as possible for all his life. I'm pretty sure he gave some little speech in a previous season/episode about kings/houses coming and going but he lives on to serve the realm and will serve whoever sits on the throne.

Hmmm... having looked at the forthcoming episode titles, I guess the writers/producers should have used spoiler tags themselves???
