Mind if you tell us what model cam you are using, and what kind of SD card?

The camera is this one and the memory card is a "32GB Class 4 Micro SD SDHC MicroSD Memory Card 32 G GB 32G TF"

    Nothing fancy.

Not really a traffic violation but saw this happen the other day

I did some testing and found that I was losing on average about 4 seconds between segments, which is a lot as shown in the video I posted earlier. I set the segment size down to 3 minutes and there is still a 4 second gap.

I am going to reduce the screen resolution to see if that is the cause, if not it may be the process of deleting old files before overwriting that causes the delay.

I will format the sd drive and see if that removes the delay.
OK it appears that dropping the resolution down to 720 stops the loss of video between sequences. I have also left it at 3 minutes long.

    Is Class 4 not a bit (s)low?

Fine for 720, but class 10 is recommended for HD

http://mydashka.com/what-kind-of-storage-cards-do-dash-cams-use/ - these guys actually recommend class 10 for 720 too

Dash cam crash with a difference

Just as I hit the brakes to avoid hitting the car that pulled out in front of me the camera "rebooted" , during the "interval" I just stopped with millimetres to spare then turned sharply onto the second "lane" of the roundabout and carried on.

Check the power to the cam, a badly fitting cigar lighter plug will cause resets on hard braking/acceleration often resulting in skips and corrupt files

That was bloody close. Driver got away with that as could have been one of 2 possible accidents.

That could be your problem right there. Class 4 is slower than a wet week.
My phone won't even work with that. I currently have a class 10.
I'd upgrade before doing anything else.

Thanks guys, that's definitely what the problem is, I have set the resolution down to 720 as a workaround until I get a faster SD card (EDIT: have one on order ;)).

So the odds of having an "incident" during the "blink" is about 150/1 assuming that 4 seconds out of every 600 will not get recorded.

And this is the result! :(

Here is the results of setting the resolution down to 720, the join is almost invisible.

Bit of relevant information before you view the clip and inevitably criticize. :)
I have cruise control set at 70mph, so I'm doing a constant speed. The Focus speeds up (rather than me slowing down) just as I get alongside. The rest....well you can see for yourself.

Also bear in mind that the dash cam has a fisheye lens, so "objects are closer than they appear"

The Focus driver refusing to allow a car to overtake is also to blame!

2nd atttempt :o I used youtube to combine two video clips, let's see if it works. I also notice that most blackvue dashcam posters here have the same '2011 date' problem...

Trailer with a full load of grain on fire on the M9 last Friday. Sad to see. Good that the driver could separate the cab unit. There were shredded tyres on the m'way, maybe a tyre on the trailer blew out?

See that regularly when I've cruise control on. (Focus)

Not sure I would fancy driving past a trailer on fire, when a truck tyre blows out it can do some damage.
Not exactly an IED, but close enough.

I'd speculate that a brake had stuck on, overheating and lighting the tyre, I can't see a simple blowout causing enough heat to set a trailer alight, maybe someone with trucker experience could shed some light on how something like this could happen? I've seen it before happen due to electrical faults, but usually on the unit itself.

I use cruise control all the time on the motorways, but when I creep up on slower vehicles and go to overtake, I floor it to get past quickly before they realise it and match my speed. then I pull back to the left and let the cruise control take over.

EDIT: I should have also said that I get past quickly to avoid situations where a knobend driver will try to undertake like that

The Focus driver refusing to allow a car to overtake is also to blame!

Perhaps another viewpoint is that the Focus is driving at less than the speed they want to but the car in front of them is holding them up.

Focus maintains a reasonable distance and doesn't move into the overtaking lane because they're either a middle lane driver or they see camcar coming and decide it's not safe to move out?

As camcar draws level with Focus, the blocking car further up increase speed, allowing the Focus to also increase speed while still maintaining relative distance to the blocking car.

    Undertaking car remains a knobend

I took another look at the video and you're right and yes the left lane is empty!

I think everyone in that video was at fault. Focus, camcar, undertaker, even car on front of focus. Had anyone of them drove properly that wouldn't have happened.

Yeah. I would agree. The cam car must have been aware of the black Audi undertaker as he would have used his mirror before the lane change. He could have let him go before the lame slow attempt at an overtake.
In Fact at no point was the cam car in the field of view of the focus. The focus may not have seen the cam car at any point and may be innocent of everything. (other than lane hogging the middle)

Black Audi guilty of being a knob throughout .

Happens quite a lot that brakes on trailers stick on, overheat and eventually catch fire. So your probably right.

Is there any obligation on truck drivers to carry a fire extinguisher?

BMW tailgates Mazda, Mazda doesn't let BMW past.

Tailgating is bad, but the Mazda driver is a cnut of the highest order.
