Personally I think we could get through another season with just Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas and Allen as our midfielders..

No. If anything has been proven this season is how badly we missed Henderson in the 3 games of his suspension. We need more energy/pace in midfield. So CB and CM are equally important in my opinion.

Build a solid spine in the side.

I have to agree with this, I truly believe that if Henderson hadn't been suspended we'd be sitting here as champions.

I think that given the full preseason to work on a real partnership, him and Skrtel could be a truly dominant pairing.

Skrtel and Sakho do not work as a partnership whatsoever they just don't have the skillset to dovetail well with eachother

I'd love to see a right footed Agger partner Sakho

As is Agger is the the CB I have most faith in tbh

That Dummet tackle was very odd. Don't think it was a red card. Why was Suarez goal disallowed?

    Skrtel is a liability.

We let in 50 goals this year and he had one of best seasons. Says it all. I'd sell him in a heartbeat

    The ball wasn't still.

I think it stopped just as Suarez kicked it. Lovely goal, feckin Phil Dowd spoiling the fun

Any Shakhtar players worth going for atm? With the 'Peoples Republic' looking like being declared it will be interesting to see what happens with the club, and all East Ukraine clubs for that matter. What domestic league will they play in? Will UEFA let them in the champions league?

Ive been going over in my head for about an hour which players will leave and what areas we need to strengthen without going full spurs on it and i keep scrapping the list as it keeps going full spurs on me. Thats before i keep coming up with a bloated squad, a 21 man squad is probably ideal but i keep exceeding it. In any case i hope we just get in two new full backs, a starting eleven quality midfielder and a mobile attacker. Should be an interesting summer hopefully.

It was disallowed as the ref was talking to a player. You could see him doing the hand motions for 'I was talking', and they have to be watching when the free is taken.

Sad to report that Suarez is definitely leaving for Real Madrid.:(

It must be true. I just read it on another thread on here.:D

    Heh! Exploiting geo-political turmoil - Outrageous ;)

Douglas Costa and Konoplanka are the obvious ones - right and left flanks respectively.

No I think it's that the ref has to give verbal permission for him to take it, that's what the commentators said anyway. Also the ball was moving. Lovely skill though.

Commentators talk through their arse. Lots of free kicks are taken quickly before the ref tells them they can take it. It is that he wasn't looking, I'd be pretty sure on that.

    No way.

Hendo wouldn't be able to Prevent our Chelsea Loss.

Yeah i know but usually not in shooting distance? Remember years ago Henry asking could he take a quick free kick. He did and scored and the other team went bananas.

I do have a feeling he will leave, but feck it, cross that bridge if/when we come to it.

Can we skip these transfer rumour filled months and just start the new season already?

Phill Dowd wanted to be the star of the show today. The sending off of Dumet was a joke, Suarez never had control of the ball.

Another good interview from Tim Sherwood. He was asked if the fan he invited down to the dugout had a chance of getting the Spurs job.

    Tim "No, He's English"

Ha it is the football business, exploitation is the (unofficial) name of the game.

Yeah I wonder what effect it will have if we decide to go back for Kono.

Can't imagine visiting supporters or teams from Western Ukraine would be able to set foot safely back in the east anymore. Maybe they join the Russian league? Either way I'd imagine there is a fair few players looking to get the fcuk out of there pretty fast.

just on today and the season...

i'm a very, very proud man. that team has done some amazing things this year, and i won't let any bitter folk from elsewhere to convince me otherwise.

    fúck no Europe this year.
    fúck it's a weak league.
    etc.

we were outsiders for 4th at the start of the season, remember.

anyway, today. the crowd were epic at the start, but once the game started, you could tell not a soul believed that the game was going to mean anything at all. we actually did well to win, as the players seemed to be playing at 50%.

at the same time, the game actually highlighted all the areas that need to be desperately improved upon over the summer.

    Johnson was atrocious. again.
Skrtel is always an error waiting to happen.
Lucas almost cost us with his needless fouling when he came on.

Mignolet also needs to be coached how to command his box.

50 goals is just too many goals to be conceding. it's why City deserve the League. Agger brought some calmness today i thought. but also, we need to be better in the area just in front of the back 4. there's just too much space there too often.

while we have been brilliant this season, and 2nd is more than any of us could've asked for when the season kicked off, i'll be honest, it feels like an opportunity lost. i do think we'll have to improve by at least 6 points next season if we realistically want to win it, and with Champions League football, our squad is going to have to be improved upon significantly if we're going to make any headway in either competition.

Lloyd is correct. we need to be aggressive in the transfer market. the sounds from the club have been promising too from what I've seen. first teamers need to be bought, and they need to be able to go straight into the team. get as many as possible in before the World Cup, and get ready of next season. 2 players for as many positions as possible.

also, we need to add "shutting up shop" to our repertoire. we need an option whereby we can actually control a game. coaching-wise, that needs to be Rodgers' number one priority IMO.

all in all though, what a season. Rodgers has elevated himself from a novice chancer to one of the most promising young managers there is in the space of a season.

despite seeming to be happy to get rid in the close season, he's done wonders with Henderson.
Sterling is a new player - explosive and multi-faceted.
Flanagan looks a Premier League fullback.
Sturridge has had his most productive season ever.
Suarez had become the best player in the League.
Gerrard has a new role, and is excelling, as Rodgers has found a way to use Henderson, Coutinho and Allen's qualities to protect him, and get the best out of him.

and just goals. lots and lots of goals. joyous.

i'll let rival fans enjoy their hollow digs in. the fact they're punching shows how relevant we've all of a sudden become. we had no right to be where we were come the end of the season. although, as i say, i think we missed a trick in not actually winning it, we've so much to be delighted with.

    roll on next season.

    i already cannot fúcking wait.

Didn't even realise that Borini scored again today. 4 goals in Sunderland's last 5 games.

I thought the team with the free was to be given advantage in such a situation as they had earned the free?

Which CB's do people see leaving the club this summer, and does everyone presume our first choice CB pairing next season will be AN Other and Sakho?

Additionally, do you feel CB or CM is a more pressing need? If we were to only buy one top-quality £30m player would you rather it be a CM or CB? Personally I think we could get through another season with just Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas and Allen as our midfielders. However we have more quantity than quality at CB.

Personally, its CM for me. Someone that can sit and protect the back 4, this will hopefully reduce the amount of goals conceded.
A player that can also step from the DM role into a more traditional CM spot and get attacks going with passes to the likes of Sterling, Couthinho etc.

If £30m was spent on a player of that ilk, I for one would be happy, don't know whose out there that fits that bill and is attainable

10 goals in 40 apps, 29 starts and 11 subs apparently. Not bad, considering the positions hes played and that sunderland were abysmal at times. Id keep him personally.

Flawless logic: loads of managers in the PL are foreign; conclusion: English managers don't get a chance.

Has it occurred to these xenophobes that if the Premier League really is the best league in the world that it might attract the best players and managers from around the world to Premier League clubs?

And more specifically, does Sherwood realise that it's the things he has said that will cost him his job, and not the results he's earned?

Jones , Johnson , Kelly , Enrique , Cissokho , Aspas ,Reina and Coates look like they could be gone in the summer .

If they are all replaced with better quality then I won't mind seeing any of them leave at all .
