Think Liverpool fans have been very stoic, 2nd is a great season and went about it in exciting style but must be harder to take having the league in your grasp and just running out of steam. Distant 2nd would surely have been easier to take. It's like Jim Bowen in Bullseye showing you what you could have won.

Quoted form the Man U Thread, this is what I'm getting at.

'It was a collapse because it was totally in Liverpool's hands. They didn't need to beat Chelsea but just avoid defeat. They were tactically naive in that game and played right into Mourinho's hands. They then capitulated in spectacular fashion to a Palace side where they again showed themselves tactically naive (once Palace started scoring they should have shut up shop).'

Well whatever you want to call it I can't deny that the season has ended on a bittersweet note for sure.

That said, I predicted Liverpool would finish 5th this season at best. So to have challenged for the title is astonishing, really astonishing considering where we are coming from.

2nd place with champions league football is alot easier to take than last season's 7th spot trust me.

I think what we can garner from some of the United fans on Boards, is that it's much better to be a laughable dire mess from the start of the season, getting nowhere than get close to the top.

    :pac:

Not looking forward to the drain of CL.

To be honest, if we weren't going to win it I'd prefer to get as close as possible. I'd rather lose it by a single goal than be 15 points off the pace.

The season has exceeded my wildest expectations of the team at the beginning of the season so all in all its been a fantastic season where we've been treated to some fantastic football. Hammering Spurs, Arsenal, Man United among others... beating the best team in the league at Anfield in a classic game... we just came up short but its been a great season and I couldn't be prouder of the team.

And how good will it be to have Champions League football back at Anfield next season? I couldn't care less who we get. I want to see this team take on the best in Europe and you can't beat Anfield on a European night.

It's gonna feel weird not having a game to look forward to every weekend for the next few months... but sure we've a world cup to keep us entertained for the summer and then we'll have two games a week to look forward to next season :D

We have a huge target from Germany.

Someone then said "Any of Muller, Bender, Draxler, Kroos, Rodriguez, Firmino". He says it's none of them. He later qualified that the player is playing in Germany.

    Reus?

you know you've done something right when every Utd fan you know is delighted that City won the league.

At the start of the season, I would have been happy with us going into the last day with a chance of gaining fourth place. To have gone into the final day with a chance of winning the title shows just how good Rodgers has been for Liverpool.

Well that's that. 2nd... 4 places higher than I thought we'd be. More goals than I thought we'd see. And a feeling of pride restored.

We missed out but was great to be there on the final day knowing we had a chance.

This season is done now. Have a few drinks get the the players through the world cup fit and ready.

97 days til we go again....

    :D

Great season. Don't mind Utd fans. They'd have been lolling if we'd lost on GD or if we had won 18 of 19 to close it out and City had done the same. It clearly wasn't a collapse (just as it clearly wasn't in 2009 either). They'll have more important things to be worrying themselves with in a few months.

Challenge is building on this over the summer. I demand an aggressive approach in the transfer market.

Genuine question, not on a silly wind up. Are Liverpool the first team to have scored over a 100 league goals and not won the league?
