He may release them simultaneously but not for another 18 months if that is the case, still hope a Chinese sweatshop gets a hold of George RR Martin and Neil Gaiman and get them to finish their work pronto.

He has stated before that the tv show and fan theories will have absolutely no effect on the end of the series. He did however say that he's been convinced to give Osha more book time because of how well Natalia Tena portrays her. I hope that's the only impact the tv show will have on the books, he seems an honest enough fella so hopefully he sticks to his word..

I'm still 100% sure the finished product will be different from what it would have been if the TV series had never been made. Obviously he can't be blamed for this, we can only hope he has the broad strokes of the storyline on paper already and fills in the cracks as well as he can.

Can't remember where I read this but someone else was saying this.

If the TV show is only going to run for 8 seasons or so it'll finish in 2018 or there abouts and with the next book not due till 2015 the show will be over long before the last book is released.

We're told that GRRM has told the shows producers how the story will conclude.

So there is talk (not from me) that he'll let the show finish and see what the reaction is and will alter the end of ADOS accordingly or will use the book to tie up any loose ends people feel need addressing etc...

Worst possible outcome IMO...but nothing we can do.

Agreed, we'll have decades of "Book" vs "show" ending arguments etc..

Dany to sail to Westeros, abandon her claim to the throne, and declare a republic. After a long and bitter election campaign the people vote for a leader who can speak no lies... Hodor.

7 Seasons max according to HBO.

Renewed up to 6 at the moment.

So that's one less year for the last book to come out, unless they do an 8 season which looks unlikely.

I believe Martin originally expected the story to be wrapped up in a neat trilogy of books. However, he let things get out of hand with too many back stories, sub-plots, minor characters etc.

My guess is that he has doubts about ever getting the series finished. He's also on record as saying that he dosent want anyone else to complete it.

So he's known the ending all along but he may not be able to reveal it in written form. The TV show is his insurance policy.

Its my guess that Martin did not expect his books to be as popular as they are.

He originally had an idea and a 3 book story line. It got more complicated, he was getting richer, the publishers were enjoying the mystery and the cash. He let it fester. And now we have rabid books fans and a massively popular TV series.

He has to know that he'll never please everyone. He probably has read reviews that have a similar, if not his exact ending, already.

And you have the massive complication that the characters that are popular in the books, are slightly different to those that are popular from the TV show. That in some areas there are differences in opinions between book and non-book readers.

Seeing his characters in the flesh, with fresh eyes, might have an effect on where he is going with the whole story.

But there is one thing guaranteed, when he does finish the series, he is going to be hated. He will be plagued with "but why did you do that" questions for the rest of his life.

I think this proves he won't be swayed by fan theories.
