Well that was a surprise.... if the show can spoil something from further books I'd expect to find out about Jon's parentage sooner then expected...

What did people think of the Sansa not being a killer 'yet' line?

Some people are just immediately jumping to conclusions thinking it's foreshadowing her killing Littlefinger, bit premature imo. But it seems to confirm the protege thing in any case.

I think Sansa will kill Lysa on screen rather than Littlefinger, Littlefinger is the anti-hero of this story he will last till the end and win the game.

Anyone see the promo for next week,
looks like Arya actually kills the Hound rather than just letting him die? Looks like it'll be a good episode

My guess it will be the Reeds father who he will meet on the way to Crasters Keep who tells him :pac:
Hate not being able to be a douche about knowing stuff that happened in the book

Yey Night's King! Well that answers some questions from the books.

One of those questions being, "What else can we call the Great Other?"

I thought that was Cold Hands with the baby at first, anyone else think the sacking of Meereen was glossed over?

No I'm not, I have read the books, but I don't watch promos for future episodes for reasons, and while it's less likely to be a spoiler in this thread, what he posted there would be a departure from the books as well.

    Hmm, dat ending.

I think we're entering a grey area here. Rather than the series just being a rendition of finished books, I think the screenwriters and grrm are being forced to be collaborative. Considering the amount of writing left in WW it's kind of inevitable that the pace of the show is going to force grrm's hand a little.

Is anyone else happy they're changing stuff around? What's the fun in watching the show play out in the same way as the books..? Season 1 was essentially that and it was by far the weakest season imo...

Tempted to give the rest of the season a miss. That reveal at the end, and the PW plot being confirmed (I'd have forgiven that on it's own), are just not on imo. Minor deviations are ok, but showing stuff that the books have yet to confirm is a step too far.

The Night's King looked pretty terrible (unconvincing) too.

The boy at Castle Black will surely be the one who kills Ygritte after that archery comment.

Also, Sam tells Jon about Bran going north of the Wall. FFS.

    PW?

Season 1 was the best season so far cos it didn't do it. Martin is a better writer than the hacks they have doing this, and the characters are far better in the book than on the TV show.

Don't dislike it, provided they're not actively spoiling the books, which I have a suspicion they just did, but oh well.

Hasn't spoiled anything, we pretty much knew what was happening to Craster's boys anyway.

I think some spontaneity adds to the enjoyment, I'm impartial regarding which version of the series I prefer though, so spoilers really don't bother me.

Also, everyone's starting to sound so entitled regarding the spoilers for future books turning up.. The show stands on its own, if I didn't want spoilers I'd simply not watch the show, spoilers were bound to crop up prematurely at some stage.

I spend half the episode thinking "that didn't happen", but it's a while, so hard to remember some things.
Was the Crastor house gang of lads in the book?

Not if they handle it right. The growth of the Dragons and politics of Meereen are quite interesting when you're not rushing through it.

They seemed to have rushed through all of Daenerys' arc since the end of season 1. Was kind of shocked when I found out how much better that odd Quarth episode was handled by GRRM.

Smirking slaves? Kill the masters? It's all a bit too simple. Dany seems to just be able to wave a magic wand of emancipation and secures an empire without, apparently, losing a single soldier.

While I wonder if they're setting it up just so they can elaborate on the problems that come with this course, I both doubt that this will occur (except in passing) and also... this Ghisari (?) empire collapsing so easily? Don't entirely buy it.

And that's the big problem because (in my humble opinion) the two star attractions of the series was the War of the Five Kings and Dany's arc.

    One battle in 4 series?

    Hmm...

That reminds me, in the books isn't this were Dany finds out about Ser Barristan and Jorah spying on her and Jorah gets the heave-ho after they crawl through the sewers to open the gates? Wonder how they'll redress that.

Makes me concerned they will start keeping characters around for the sake of their popularity, Pod and his Ser, Lady line made it on screen though, I was pleased with that.

Not surprised at all that the TV series is deviating more from the books the closer they get. Having Jon actually meet Bran would be terrible though and I hope that doesn't happen.

Dany's story took a massive leap, five minutes and she's won the entire city? They spent longer pissing around outside the gates.

Don't know what to make of that sequence at the end, raises more questions than anything else. Know who the character is but not the storyline, which I guess is coming in Winds of Winter.

I disliked this episode a lot I had less of an issue with the end as I don't think it spoiled that much but the 5 min taking of mereen rubbed salt into the lack of strong belwas wound :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,617 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Just by touching the child he turned him into a wight, gives rise to old nans stories of the night that never ends and armies of wight walkers if it is that easy to turn someone.

I think complaining about spoilers for the books is ridiculous. When the series was announced did people really think Martin was going to finish the books before the TV caught up? We've known for two years that the creators knew how it was all going to end so it was inevitable that there were going to be hints dropped and I think that last five minutes was, a hint. It was hardly a plot development point and we have no idea how it will pan out in the books

Having read the books aside, that was pants. I mean, nothing happened. And then some pale fella with a knobbly head turns up and turns a baby's eyes blue at the end.
    Pure filler.
