I hate the way people put up RIP status' or condolence messages the minute they hear someone has passed. It's like people are competing for who knows such and such died first. This happened recently when a status by some busy body was put up before a relative in England had found out and they found out on Facebook as a result. Some people just lack any basic common sense.

Or when the person died is only a friend of a friend and they instantly root out a picture of them together to show that they knew them.

I just remembered something there with all the talk of death.

Someone was murdered in my home town over a year or so ago. I won't discuss details, as I know the family and it was one of those really horrible cases where there were no winners or losers or villains or heroes. Just tragic and senseless.

Anyway, I used to be a journo as some of yiz may know. Writing for an online site at the time, got a girl to cover the case, grand. Get a friend request from her. Alright, never met her in person, but it's often easier to work with someone if you're friends with them, so I accept.

Next thing she's messaging me. "How AWFUL is that case, blah blah, I looked up the house on Google Maps and it's so near the town, are you far from it now, do you know who they are."

I felt quite repulsed by it and never replied to her. This kind of prying is so ghoulish and it nearly feels worse in Ireland because the country's so fecking small and we all know each other, give or take a couple of degrees :/

Some people really just need to think before they write things down.

Some people get off on that kind of thing. They say how AWFUL with such a gleam of excitement.

Years ago I worked with a group of young people. We got news that a past member of the group had committed suicide. So I rang up the people who were pals with her when she was with us, most of whom had gone on to work/college so I only had home numbers for them. Ended up telling about a dozen parents sad news to pass on. Two of them asked "how did she do it?"

    Gobsmacked.

That might be gobsmacking to you, but people are curious.
Just like when anyone dies, the first question is usually "What happened?".
It's no different just because the person committed suicide.

That's what a friend of mine said at the time too. To me it's kind of indecent -it's the very definition of morbid curiosity. When "what happened?" is that "she committed suicide" I don't think any further details are necessary.

I disagree. I think 99% of people would like to know. We're curious, us humans.
It doesn't mean we're all heartless, but curious.
    Curiousness is OK.
I'd definitely ask how it happened but then I'd leave it at that. I wouldn't be picking it over and talking about it or gossiping.

Curiosity is OK, but I think suicide methods are in the realm of prying. They don't happen; they are done. It didn't even occur to me to ask how a family member of mine had killed himself.

Sorry, we're OT now. These aren't even the kind of things that come up on fb anyhow and ya im ok hun! :)

    From "Nice Guy":

"So this is a bit sad, but I just realised that no matter our history our how much we love each other, Jane and I really just aren't right for each other. No matter what I say or do, even when I'm being completely sincere and trying to be her friend, she ends up getting infuriated at me. Not even just a little, but completely unforgivingly angry. If anyone else talked to her with the same words, she would listen and open her heart to them, but with me it always had to be a fight. I hate that I wish she didn't get so angry at me. Plus, she's looking for a bad boy;a super-sexy manly, cut dude. I'm not that. I'm no bad boy. I have an adventurous side, but I always have been and always will be a softy. Blame it on my mom I guess. It's who I am, and I love who I am. And I've day I'll find the girl who appreciates and loves me for who I am, unconditionally, exactly as I always loved her".

Mortified as I am for Jane, I can't help but take note of this as an excellent revenge post/frape template. :D

    I don't even...

Yeah, none of that makes any sense to me...

    1) Did he not realise when he picked up the kettle and it wasn't warm?
    2) Did he not realise when he poured the water and there was no steam?
    3) Did he not notice when he was pouring the water and the cup didn't get warm?
    4) Did he not notice the cup was cold "all the way" upstairs to where he took a sip?
    5) hashtag75?

They probably meant ''feckin' eejit!'', but because of Facebook he/she hasn't learnt the English language yet.

Friend of mine on Facebook keeps being reported for photos he's posting and has been banned a few times recently.

He told people to have a sense of humour. His friends are all agreeing, saying whoever is banning him needs to lighten up.
Ironic thing is, it IS one of his friends reporting him.

He was allowed back on FB today and told people "stop reporting me, everyone, it's gone beyond a laugh now".

He then proceeded to put up some pictures of naked women.
What's the betting he'll be reported again?

    Who knew!

    (I didn't)
