Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Why would he lie?

He gave a political answer not to cut off any options. He wasn't going to say anything to upset current or potential employers and was complementary of both options that he appears to either have or would like to have.

If he said he couldn't be happier and wasn't leaving then it would be noteworthy.

WWE isnt the be all and end all. A lot of wrestlers are happy to just enjoy what they do.

He said he is happy and he hardly ever works outside of NJPW. That doesnt sound like someone who is itching to leave. It sounds like someone who is actually happy with their position in life.

I am very happy in my life, doesn't mean I couldn't be happier or not interested in taking on new opportunities.

I don't see how the happy line is more noteworthy than what he said before it or what followed it

Possible WWE offer: “Of course it’s on my radar; it’d be silly of me to say it’s not on my wish list of things to do in life. It’s very flattering because I grew up watching WWE, but to be even considered employable by a company like that is a big honor for me. I’m very happy with what I’m doing now, but if the situation came up and it was the right move, I’d like to try it

I am with DM-ICE on this. Also if you listen to the audio Devitt's sleepy head wakes up at the mention of WWE interest.

But yes he is happy with in New Japan too and "****ing loves" wrestling on UK indies.

Pro wrestling is quite different than a regular. Look at CM Punk for example. One of the top guys in the WWE but he hated it and went home. If a main eventer isnt happy with his life due to working for WWE, imagine how crap it is for those further down the card.

More money at the expense of happiness isnt something I'd imagine many people would be interested in.

Not the same for everyone. Punk may not like it but someone else in his shoes would.

It's basically the exact same thing a footballer says when questioned about links to another club. Being happy were you are does not equal an unwillingness to leave and is usually said so as to not p*ss off anybody involved at your club in case the move doesn't transpire.

Risk or not it's pretty clear that if WWE make Devitt a serious offer then he is going to be very tempted to take it and I for one wouldn't blame him if he did.

I'd love him for to be in WWE as long as they don't make him another Stereotypical Irish Person like Sheamus and Finlay just let him be himself like they did with Punk and now Bryan

New Japan seem to fly over Wrestler's families over for the big January 4th Tokyo Dome show. But Devitt's Da seems to be over in Japan for the current tour:

His match from yesterday is here versus Lance (Hoyt) Archer:

Really good with quite the bump by Devitt

I watched a match Devitt had at an ICW show in Glasgow's Garage. I think it was recent but anyway after it he gets on the mic and says wrestling in front of the 600 people in that nightclub was better than wrestling in front of thousands in Japan. Dunno if he was being legit or just trying to please the crowd but it remjnded me of he Coca Cola factory guy - the can of coke schtick and saying to every school that they were the best!

Any ideas if/when he's next wrestling on a show in Ireland?

Devitt is defending his wrestling.ie title against dunkan disorderly. Their feud over the belt has been unreal. 3 of the matches can be found on wrestling.ie's youtube channel.

That happens a lot of smaller shows. "[Insert city name] has the best wrestling fans in the world!"

In fairness he didn't have the stomach flu when wrestling in Glasgow that he had on January 4.

Yeah it was just a badly researched article when it came to the WWE.

Dave Meltzer asked this morning and said there's a very good chance but no deal has been done yet.

If you don't hear it from Dave Meltzer, Mike Johnson or someone from WWE it likely isn't true.

I heard Meltzer talking about a Chris Benoit return. He's obviously right all the time though :D

Any ideas what's going on with Devitt's WWE negotiations? To quote JR, is it 'cash or creative' that's the main point to be hammered out?

Journal.ie has got the scoopz. Ha!

April 6 at Sumo Hall in Tokyo (Sunday morning our time & the morning before Wrestlemania):

Prince Devitt vs. Ryusuke Taguchi has a "Devitt must leave NJPW is he loses" stipulation.

Further clarification from Japanese blog of the stipulations of the big Loser Leaves match from a Japanese fan blog:
"Ryusuke Taguchi will take on Prince Devitt on April 6th INVASION ATTACK at Ryogoku Sumo hall. Taguchi demanded the match will be loser leaves match. He said he will get Devitt out of NJPW. If he loses the match, he will retire. It is like Shinya Hashimoto against Naoya Ogawa."

"Hashimoto once retire after he lost against Ogawa. I was very shocked at that time. I think it is the story Prince Devitt will lose the match, left NJPW and go to WWE. "

    http://blog.livedoor.jp/hbkidcool/archives/51942568.html

Parking the WWE rumours Taguchi aged about 5-10 years physically especially around the face in his time off due to injury for the better part of the last year. So there's is some element of doubt for me at least here. However in ring Taguchi moves largely the same way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Taguchi is also 35 this year. He isnt going to be getting much in the way of big achievements so could be calling it a day before he gets too broken down.

Ah all signs are pointing that Devitt is going to WWE I hope he doesn't but if he does to quote Craig Bellamy I wish him well.

After the Preston City Wrestling promoter openly telling fans who were on the fence on buying tickets for yesterday's show PCW show they would be kicking themselves in two months time. Devitt shows up tonight in Scotland and wins the ICW Zero G championship.

He also holds the Wrestling.ie Championship and London's RQW Cruiserweight Championship.

    A fun tale being weaved.

Becky Lynch months and months ago seemed to have started a Father Ted trend/revival in NXT as she brought over a copy of the boxset with her. William Regal, Robbie Brookside, Sheamus etc often quote it now. Well Devit has gotten in on it doing his best Bishop Brennan.

In the last Wrestling Observer before his big match for New Japan Sunday morning. Meltzer gives no declaration about his future. Just TNA wants him badly also and that he isn't on the poster for New Japan's Best of Super Juniors Tournment - which may mean little as he has moved up to the Heavyweight division more or less.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

The more I think about it, the more retarded it would be for Devitt to leave at this point. A couple of years back, sure. But not now. Assuming the split is going to happen, that's Nakamura and Tanahashi seemingly out of the running. Shibata isn't going to be getting a title reign either and Naito has bombed big time, leaving them short of a really top rival for Okada. Devitt ticks literally all the boxes to fill that role. If he stays, it's his spot to lose.

You can argue they will have Styles but I don't think they will just throw him into that top spot. They'll want to get their monies worth and have him work with a lot of different guys up and down the card.

It has been nearly 24 hours:

Devitt lost to Taguchi in a match that featured a mid match (rushed) babyface turn when his stablemates the Young Bucks turned on Devitt when Devitt requested them to walk to the back so Fergal could have a clean match. Devitt ripped off his heel arm sleeves and wrestled his old babyface style.
[NJPW News] It has been announced that Prince Devitt has officially sent out a notice for his resignation from New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The Chairman of NJPW, Naoki Sugabayashi, has officially revealed that he has received a proposal of resignation from Devitt. Sugabayashi stated that he is willing to continue negotiations with Devitt and hopes that a relationship between the two parties can be continued in the future. Though at this time it Devitt has stated that his match at Ryogoku is his “last show”.

Sugabayashi stated that he will honor Devitt’s request if that is indeed what he wishes to do, but negotiations do indeed to still be open as well.

His face paint helped hid his sadness on the way to the ring and his tearful face after.
