    1-1 Commons

Griffiths shot parried poorly by Brown, Commons first to react from close range

I heard today that Eoghan O Connell is cousin of rugby player Paul O Connell.

Is he any good? Emerging talent?

I only saw the first half but he did ok. His inexperience showed for the goal conceded but showed some good touches/decisions too. Certainly didnt do his chances of more gametime any harm. The problem is Celtics track record with bringing promising talent from academy level to first team level.

Just back from seeing Celts in Seville at the Pavilion Theatre, great stuff and brings back a lot of memories. I recommend it for anyone who is coming to Glasgow over the next 2 weeks

Do we have an away Jersey coming out soon?

If we do are there any leaks as to what it might look like?

Leigh Griffiths facing a charge for being a fan.

The SFA are a truly pathetic bunch.

    Celtic have fined him aswell...

Embarrassing behaviour from Griffiths tbh. Being a player carries with it a responsibility, and his behaviour was irresponsible. I've no problem at all with him being fined by the SFA, and I'm glad the club made their feelings on the matter known as well.

Hopefully he learns from it. At least he won't have to worry about any abuse from Hearts fans for the foreseeable, on the pitch at least! :)

If he wants to be a fan he can retire but until then he's a professional footballer and there are responsibilities that go with that. There is also a code of conduct being a Celtic player and he's fallen short of that. It all about whether he learns from this and reacts positively.

Stokes must be delighted that the spotlight is being taken off him! :pac:

I wouldn't be holding out much hope of Tom Rogic coming back an staking a claim. His attitude and commitment to the cause is being criticised by the oz media for club and country. He also passed comments about the expectations at celtic being too high for him. Its ok, Henderson is coming through and taking his opportunities better than Rogic ever did

I see Kayal has fallen out of love with Scottish Football. Basically complaining that he's out for months at a time when he's injured and he was wanted by United & Liverpool before they were put off by a price tag of £7m...

    1) He's brave to a fault. He dives into tackles against bigger lads and wonders why he gets injured and severe ones...

    2) Man United & Liverpool put off by a £7m price tag? If they thought that, he wasn't going to be a regular starter! He'd be best friends with Owen Hargreaves too!

I think he knows the writing is on the wall with Biton, Johansen & Henderson all competing well for places.

Yes it looks like he'll go out with a whimper, sad really.
Initially I liked this league but after all the injuries I now no longer like it.

Not sure what his injuries have to do with liking or disliking a league.

Always thought his weakness (aside from being injury prone) was his lack of goals. Johansen looks to have goals in him, and Henderson too. Not sure his "come get me" call to the EPL will yield much, certainly not a top side. Joe Ledley is a better player and look where he ended up.

Recent Lawwell interview on Celtic, Scottish football in general, the English Premiership and the return of Rangers:
    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/26779455

Lawwell is a great chief executive it has to be said, as much as I'd hate to see Lenny and some of the players move on, I'd equally hate to see Lawwell move on. There's two sides to a football club, one on the pitch and one off the pitch, and each is as important as the other. Fans of Scottish clubs are probably more aware of that fact than anyone else. Our club is in safe hands right now, as much as the board-bashers on here would have you think otherwise.

I saw that, find it embarrassing too. We complain about players being out of touch with fans, about players spouting cliches and saying nothing in interviews, but when one actually acts like a football fan we fine him and he gets charged with "bringing the game into disrepute". Are the SFA basically saying that all fans are bringing the game into disrepute with their chants??

Better player now no doubt but before Kayals first big injury, he was grabbing far more plaudits, headlines and heavily linked to alot more big clubs than ledley ever did. When he could bossed games like he did, his lack of goals was never a criticism cos everyone else could pour forward at will.

Its a pity things haven't worked out better with Kayal, his first season was top class but the injuries have really set him back. Sorry to see him go as I like him as a player and he seems a decent guy but he's not going to be a first pick moving forward so best he goes now.

I think in terms of transfers he's similar to Ledley & Wanyama in he probably was watched by some of the big EPL teams but I doubt any would have been in the running to sign him.

Have the guys who left us really be doing well for their teams?

Kayal interview sounds like a statement of regret

Swally coming out saying that McElbows is the fairest player in Scottish football is a joke

Ally couldnt even remember the tackle but defended his player blindly anyways and harped on about what the game was like years ago. He'll be talking out the other side of his mouth when its one of his players injured in a similar incident no doubt.

Who would be your player of the year lads?
    http://www.celticfc.net/poy2014

For me, it's between Commons and VVD, probably Commons would edge it because of his sheer determination. I think he's had a fantastic season. VVD a very close second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,529 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Commons, VVD & Forster probably in that order too.

That amount of goals from attacking midfield whilst not having a proper striker was crucial in the league.

Van Dijk runs him close because of the clean sheet record and better European performances.

Forster breaking all those records was unreal but alot of it goes down to the team and defending as a unit.

Honourable mention to izaguirre, looks like he's finally over his broken ankle that looked to send him down the same path as Kayal.

Give it to VVD! Might persuade him to stay one more year :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Commons then VVD, I think Lustig would have been in the running but for his injury

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 10,887 Mod ✭✭✭✭PauloMN

Yes of course I should have included Forster there also. :o

The three of them have had a great season.

I'm resigned to losing Forster and VVD at least this summer. Keeping either or both would be brilliant, but I think the interest in VVD especially will be impossible to fight.

CL qualifiers will be interesting for the new bhoys like Griffiths and Johansen especially to see how they fare. Have we three qualifier rounds again? Last round is always a potential banana skin (Karagandy ffs!!!).

As for Lustig... I almost forgot about him!! Any news on how he's doing?

Celtic team to play Dundee United: Forster; Brown, Ambrose, van Dijk, Izaguirre; Henderson, Kayal, Johansen, Samaras; Commons, Stokes

Subs: Zaluska, Griffiths, Balde, Pukki, Mouyokolo, O’Connell, Herron

Griffiths being punished for that video?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,529 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

The SFA's main objective is to sterilise the game in Scotland, then wonder how to make the game more interesting....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,529 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

    1-0 Samaras, Commons FK assist

    Sweet finish by Samaras

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,529 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

    2-0 Stokes

Incredible 1-2 with Commons to part the entire DUTD defence like the red sea, great finish

Could easily have been a red card for Ciftci

Looks like more trouble brewing for Leigh Griffiths, Daily Record has footage of him singing a song about Rudi Skacel being a "f**king refugee"

The lad needs a serious dose of cop on or his Celtic career will be over before it gets started.
