Stopping David Silva will be key to beating city tonight, if he is not picked up when he drops into the space between striker and midfielder there could be trouble.....then again we have our own magician in Mata and tonight is the night he is going to score his first United goal...

Fellaini and Mata to score their first goals for United, and with the score at 2-2 in the 90th minute, Beckham, Scholes and Keane will come running down from the stands revealing that they all secretly came out of retirement in January and were sneaked into the squad. They'll come on as subs and score in the 91st, 92nd and 93rd minutes respectively. Then they'll run around the touchline kissing their badges while the fans mob the pitch, setting off flares and beating drums. Moyes will tear off his shirt revealing a full chest tattoo of the United crest and start moonwalking while he cackles maniacally and the FA will be so impressed that they'll award 10 points for the victory.

imagine I would still have becks in the team over Ashley young or Valencia!!!!

It won't happen, but I'd love to see United be able to line up like this:

    De Gea

    Rafael
    Jones
    Vidic
    Buttner

    Carrick
    Fellaini

    Mata
    Kagawa

    Rooney
    Hernandez

Really like the formation and even with RVP and Rooney, we can fit Mata and Kagawa in their best position.

    City to win by two.

    Opinions on the midfield/attack tonight?

    I reckon:

    Fellaini Carrick

    Valencia Mata Welbeck

    Rooney

Valencia/Welbeck are essentials defensively. Poor Shinji :(

Valencia and Young were embarrassing the last time against City, absolutely no way either should play. It's basically at the stage where if Kagawa starts I'll know what kind of mentality United will be going into the game with and if not I'll know it's going to be another cowardly performance.

we would be destroyed with that formation...... city would target buttner time and time again and Rafael would be sent off

I think if he's going to give Buttner his head in advance of the Bayern game, the armband on Rooney could be a big thing to get the team playing at a tempo rather than the other lad (Evra) sauntering around the place apparently "fighting for the team".....

Do you even watch football?! The only way the above would work would be if Zabaleta and Kolarov seen the formation and broke down laughing at the amount of space they were being given. Navas would be subbed on in the first 10mins and both Rafael and Buttner would be sent off.

Words fail me to describe just how bad that formation is. Bad.

    Edit:

United, in my opinion, should play a 4-2-3-1.
    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Carrick - Buttner
    Fletcher - Fellaini
    Welbeck - Mata - Kagawa
    Rooney

I'd probably play Carrick , Fellaini & Fletcher tonight outnumber them in the middle.

Had to laugh at Owen spoofing his way into that. Nevertheless, that last minute goal was unbelievable!

City have the motivation tonight. They are going for the title.

We're in the unfamiliar position of playing for pride at this stage of the season. Just like the games against Chelsea and Liverpool this year, playing for pride doesn't really seem to motivate this team.

So, while I don't think we'll get hammered, I think City's hunger will get them the win.

The formation he suggested is no different to yours only it's Rooney in the middle rather than Mata. Welbeck is a big game player so would like to see him over Chico but the previous formation wouldn't be the worst thing in the world imo so long as Carrick and Fellaini spread out a bit.

2nd source running with the Fletcher to be sold story, http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/transfer-news-manchester-united-preparing-for-exit-of-patrice-evra-and-darren-fletcher-with-phil-jones-set-to-be-given-new-contract-9214690.html

TBH,if he's fit enough to play for another team,I'd keep him & sell Carrick. All well & good having a player in the "quarterback" role but if he's as mobile as a wardrobe then that's a big problem. At least Fletch can get around the pitch.

Look at Gerard playing in the 'Carrick' role,he's far more mobile & that's an immense help to Liverpool. Our play seems more treacle like compared to their fluid movement - something we used to have.Notice how we scored our first counter attack goal in aeons when Carrick wasn't in midfield.

whats the likelihood that De Gea will leave once the big two from Spain come sniffing
He has improved considerably this year imo, with a rubbish defence and midfield in front of him
this wont have gone unnoticed in spain obviously
I suppose if Barca or Real came in with around £25m he'd be packing the bag?

Very good chance, hes probably the best Spanish keeper at the moment and probably wont go to the World Cup because hes with United.

how long did he sign for, and how long has he left?

all depends if he wants to go back to Spain or not, and I wonder if his time a Athletico might impact on a decision to go to Real if they came a knocking.

Barca are Barca and impossible to predict how a player will react if they came along, but aint they signed (or about to ) sign ter Stegen?

Barcelona supposedly have Ter Stegen signed so thats them sorted for a goalkeeper for a good few years.

It hasn't been officially confirmed, but he announced a few weeks back that he's leaving Gladbach at the end of the season.

Hence the words "be able to play that formation". Obviously you can't just play a formation and expect the players to be able maintain the shape it requires. Which is why Brazil have made it look easy in the past.

It's actually one deployed by Pellegrini throughout his career, but I guess you already knew that.

    odds on for Barca imo

Madrid prob dont need a keeper right now
ur man seems to be doing an alright job

but chelsea and city would probably take him off united if the price was right
doubtful he'd bother moving to another english club unless Moyes truly destroys the set up
