Is there anywhere in Dublin that sells JVC Marshmallows or equivalent for cheap?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,651 ✭✭✭✭beauf

Dunno about the JVC. Why those in particular.

    I picked up these
    http://www.head-fi.org/t/561951/philips-she3580-iem-review-how-can-something-sound-so-good-for-10
    http://www.head-fi.org/products/philips-she3590bk-10-in-ear-headphones-black

    For cheap in PC World
    http://www.pcworld.ie/Mobile/Product/PHILIPS-SHE3590BK10-Headphones-Black/310718/196.7

I thought they were ok, not as good as that thread on head fi would have you believe. But they suggested different tips, I'm just using the ones that came with them. Not sure if thats an online price only. I can't remember what I paid. Cheap though.

ordered a pair. will just forget about the order and see if and when they arrive.... that's the best policy when ordering from China... how long did it take from order to delivery for you...? just about a month?

the OP ordered from there i would imagine if he's providing the link. they are legit for this product according to threads on head-fi. you might find a pair from UK or Euro seller but they will be close to twice the price. there will be no customs charge on this as the value is under the €22 threshold.

I have always found when using those type of earplugs they tend to fall out of my ears.

Do you have similar issues with these or was it most probably because any headphones i have used with earplugs of this type have been fairly sh1tty/cheap ones?

Don't think I have weird sized ear holes or anything :pac:

You generally have to try different tips to get a secure comfy fit.

    Or try something like this

What are they comparable to, audio quality wise? Might just pick up a set regardless. Handy having the mic too.

Just be aware, those are Version 1 of the Pistons, Version 2 are rose gold colour and apparently much better.

    See here for comparison:

Ah, didn't cop that. Can't complain for the price though so hopefully the version 1s are decent enough.

There are plenty of knock offs on eBay. The seller I've linked is authorised reseller

We've the AKG K551 reduced to €129.99, only 3 available at this price... thought it might be of interest to some here.

Just an update from my OP. Order arrived today from my eBay seller using Singapore Post, just under 3 weeks.

The Xiaomi Pistons are fantastic! Genuine and have a faint of chocolate also haha. Presentation is lovely and the build and sound quality are brilliant, all for under €25, unreal value!

ordered from buyforyou 5 weeks ago and no sign of them. they tell me to ask the post office. no tracking so I can't ask the post office... muppets.

    I have the following headphones:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Denon-AH-C300-Headphones-Microphone-Controls/dp/B008N5HU4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395531136&sr=8-1&keywords=denon+c300

They can be got for very little these days, and imo they are the very best iems for the lover of pop / dance music, nothing else really comes close. Even the momentums don't compare to these beasts.

I also have their big brothers the c400s and they are also amazing for the price if you are after a more balanced sound.

Lets just say I loved those 2 iems so much I bought the denon ah d600 over ear head phones....which are also bloody amazing!

I have a ton of earphones, but i find myself grabbing the denons every time i head out the door.

I just pulled the trigger on a pair of sony xba-40s, which i got used on Amazon for less than 100 euro, so that's 12.50 per balanced amature, I'd imagine that's also the bargain of the year ^ ^.

I still stand by my Koss Porta Pro recommendation, they are great for sports / jogging. Not too good for commuting / office work because they leak sound.

Also here's a tip for any android phone owners, get the Noozxoide app and replace your standard sound library with it: goto settings > sound > music effects and swap the default MusicFX (which sucks) with Noozxoide (which rocks).

Poweramp for android also hammers any other music players and is well worth the 2 / 3 euro.

got these today finally. first impressions not overwhelming. terrible design of the actual earphone as there's no way that it's going to get a good seal with the supplied tips so it's hard to judge properly.

wouldn't compare to sony mh1c (which is cheaper or same price on amazon.co.uk) based on initial listening.

not sure if the head-fi hype is totally warranted on this one.

I see someones offering a MH1C recabling service.

    http://www.zmfheadphones.com/recabled-mh1/

    http://www.head-fi.org/t/707182/sony-mh1-recabled-by-zmf

    Bit pricey though.

    It rarely ever is :pac:

thought that the mh1c had a good bit of justification.

pistons have decent soundstage I will agree but maybe just not my type of sound although is growing on me a bit.

there is some version of the pistons being called 2.1 now that is supposed to be better.

I don't mind the mh1c cables all that much - seem to have gotten used to them although the microphonics are very bad. using the shirt clip helps. although overall the mh1c are very much - "sitting" earphones if you know what I mean. I personally don't have a problem with them falling out as with the medium tips provided they stay in but they are useless for the gym or jogging.

BTW in Argos, the Sony MDR-XB30EX and Sennheiser CX475 are down to €25 again (the price jumps around) which compare well with Amazon.

While the MH1C is better than the CX475. I can't wear the MH1C so I end up using the CX475 instead. I expect going on reviews the MDR-XB30EX sounds similar to the CX475 but needs longer to burn in.

Yeah, sometime the flavour of the month is spot on, but it's a rarity - IMO of course

Yeah some guy did a good post summarising all the hysterical hype on the pistons.

    http://www.head-fi.org/t/683007/the-hype-appreciation-thread/1320#post_10337957

Personally, I try and avoid most of the indivdual iem threads and just rely on Jokers reviews if possible.

There's lots of new releases from brainwavz, astrotec vsonic and dunu out now/soon so I think I might buy a new pair soon. The astrotec AX30 and AX35 look pretty nice, waiting on jokers full review but his initial impression look good.

    http://theheadphonelist.com/brief-impressions-t-peos-accidentally-extraordinary-meze-narmoo-astrotec-olasonic-ear-earphones/

Never been so much choice and and high standards in the iem market, happy days!

just swapped the earbuds for some sony replica type ones that I had that I got from ebay ages ago. allows for deeper insertion into the ear and the results are decent. they are worth the money.

    =====

budget iem hero head-fi threads typically have the following evolution

    1. great review by someone
    2. followers flood in
    3. did I get fakes - who on the net is selling the real ones?
    4. arguments over which $300 iem's they are better than and compared to previous budget iem heroes
    5. consensus that minimum burn-in of 600 hours required before they "come alive"
    6. man they are way way better if you completely take them apart and stick a bit of toilet paper between the first and second sections -( mod #1)
7 how do I fix my iem's that I broke trying mod #1
8 some guy is offering a re-cabling service for $150 for these $20 earphones and everyone who used him is really happy with the results
    9 the hype backlash
10 settling down into some sort of agreement that they are decent but probably nothing too special

I dunno i think its easy enough to read between the lines on head fi. Usually peoples comments and opinions can be taken in context of what else they like. People aren't all looking for the same sound.

i find head fi pretty accurate once you don't take it all at face value.

the one i didn't find that impressive was the Philips one. Ok it was like a €25 iem for €10 but I didn't think it was better than that.
