I'm not a fan of them bubbly looking cars (if that makes any sense at all). I prefer the cleaner, simple look)

100% agree. I've always preferred cars with nice straight lines and a traditional "rectangular" shape.

That's why I hate the look of Crossovers. They're neither a car nor an SUV. They're a bloody mongrel!

    Here's an interesting one.
A 01 Corolla but in the newer shape, (so most likely an import)
1.7 petrol engine, just shy of 145K on the clock, tested until the end of the year,
    €1200

    This too shall pass.

A very odd one indeed, it has the headlights from the Irish/UK saloon model on the front but is the hatchback.

Its an Australian import I'd say.

Headlights from a saloon, maybe it was in a knock at the front?

It's on KPH and has AC... I'd say as well it's an Aussie import.

They came fitted with that front end in some other countries.

    S60 D5 2.4, NCT 3/15 - €1795
    27856668.jpeg
Nice spec, loads of test. Needs a few hundred knocked off, but a nice car nonetheless.

    V70 2.0T, NCT 2/15 - €1400
    27250637.jpeg
Again, nice spec. Loads of test, get it a bit closer to a grand and you're laughing.

You'd wonder why someone would drag one of those to the other side of the planet.

    This too shall pass.

someone might have moved there and bought it. Got attached to it and shipped it back.

I've seen an Irish reg Transit in New Zeland before...

In all honesty though, with the cost of shipping that to Ireland you'd buy the same car here?

Just how reliable are those s60s and s80s in 2.0t, d5 and t5? Theyre cracking cars for that price it looks.

In love with a fridge. Each to their own I guess :p

I really can't comment on them, but if you're interested in buying one have a look at the S60 T5 I've just posted over on the fixeruppers thread. Its only got 1 months test but its got 9 months tax all for €900!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,579 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Not sure why you deprived this thread of that T5, Kaiser? It has current NCT so is valid in here!

Given the tax that's in it, that's pretty much a free car. Great find!

Maybe because any car with a month or so left of nct is dismissed by you as having no nct and is labelled as being "not bangernomics"?

Current NCT and no known issues DOES make it bangernomics, although you're right, I normally would like to see a lot more than a few weeks or a few months left...

But with a price like that, it would be very tempting to go for it. Spend a little bit of money (on a good mechanic) to convince yourself it either will or won't pass the NCT. In case of the former, buy! :)

Indeed but(not having a go here) didn't you always raise the question as to why a seller doesnt nct a car when it is within the 15 month(3 months early) nct-able period? And that there is no excuse for the seller not to nct it when within that period before selling?

There can be plenty excuses for the seller not to nct the car. I've been there myself more than once. Car could be out of tax, no longer insured and what not. You're right I'd like a nice and long NCT on any bangernomics car posted here in an ideal world, but I think you are mistaking me for someone else on this particular issue :)

I used to deal with an International Removals firm. Stuff comes in containers, size of container (20 or 40 ft) is the biggest factor in price, weight has little to do with the overall cost. It's possible that somebody was moving back and they realised they had the space for the car so decided to take it, or a company was paying for the total move and they decided it's the handiest way to go about it.

There was an ex-Aussie Range Rover around Dublin for a while as well, was worth €1500 maximum at the time.

I was sure it was you :p maybe your right though, maybe i am mistaking you for another poster. Tbh I couldn't be bothered going back to check who it was now though. :)

You are correct though no insurance is a good excuse but as long as the car is declared off the road it can be driven to an nct appointment without being taxed so its not really an excuse anymore.

That Volvo has loads of tax anyway so that can't be the excuse :p

I've a 2003 S60 D5. I bought it with about 70k miles on the clock and it now has just over 290k miles done. It's fast, comfortable and I get about 40 mpg.

I had to replace the cat at around 90k and suspension parts seem to need replacing every 60k miles or so. I replace the fuel filter every 60k and I don't let the fuel gage go into the red, otherwise I get problems - probably a lot of gunk in the tank or a problem with the intank sender pump - not a big deal either way. Other than that engine seems pretty bullet proof. I'd buy another one in a heart beat but I've promised myself an XJ6 if I can keep her going and get close to 320k miles.

I had an intercooler pipe split recently which was the first non standard consumable to need replacing in ages

How is that I'm coming across 10+ year old cars on DoneDeal that claim they've NCT's up until May and June of next year?

Maybe its because the can be tested three months before their current nct expires.
