Take the "plugin" folder off my download link, copy the folder onto a usb stick upon inserting it into Spark, you will get a prompt to re-install the Spark plugins - say Yes. Then re-flash using the plugin :)

I thought that might have done the job but alas no ! The frustration continues...

Just check - you may have TWO versions of the same plugin now so if so, try both

Ok. I managed to install enigma but I think I will stick to spark. I can't get some channels to work in enigma. H2 uk for example. And mane reason I wanted to go to enigma is crossepg and timeshift. If I can get it sorted on spark it would be great. And question for champion: is h2 working on your enigma?

You just need to run autobouquets in e2 to get all your channels working. Crossepg and time shift should be working on his image too. Have you loaded crossepg?

Yep, what sorted was mine was when i went into epg, deselect 28.2 and leave 28.4 ticked and download. It will then bring up all epg again for yoy

When you first flash any image go to service searching and do a full satellite scan with clear before scan enabled, reboot, then run autobouquets and it will sort your missing channels in the Sky bouquets. You can use Dreamboxedit to sort those in the favorites bouquet or you can also do it with the remote by going to the channel in a-z and pressing menu> add to bouquet. You can even sort the channel in the bouquet by pressing menu> enable move mode

Yes there are two now. Plugin Upgrade and plugin_e2upgrade.s . I think I tried both. Can anyone program these boxes for a nominal fee ? ! The Enigma 2 EPG with all the plugins look excellent. My kids will never get used to the Spark EPG.

Come on. Don't admit defeat at the first hurdle. Try plugin_e2upgrade.s again or try re-installing the plugins again too.

I second this, it's a painful learning curve but thanks to the folks on here and Google you'll get there eventually. Well worth it once you crack it.

I used Spark to format my external USB HD and in ext2Fsd I can see it formatted it to ext2.
Anyone know of a handy way to format it to ext3 or does it really make much of a difference?

You can use the box, format it to ntfs then plug it into the box and use putty to telnet in and run:
    mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1

    then make the movie directory:
    cd /media/RECORD
    mkdir movie

Cool. So that will convert the entire drive to ext3, giving it the label RECORD?

How come I can record onto USB stick in Spark, but in Enigma2 I have to have it formatted as EXT2/EXT3?

The box will work with NTFS or Fat, but being a linux OS it will perform much better using EXT3

Thanks that worked, the command completed in a couple of seconds.

    linux:/home/admin/flash # df -T
Filesystem Type 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
    .
    .
    /dev/sda1 ext3 297489 10287 271842 4% /var/home/admin/flash

    EDIT again
On 3rd look its appears to the mounted disk was only 298M before I formatted to ext3.
    /dev/sda1 298M 57M 227M 21% /var/home/admin/flash

I'll have to take a look around to see whats going on.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sda1 291M 11M 266M 4% /var/home/admin/flash

This is the output of the command, any ideas?
    mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1
    mke2fs 1.41.9 (22-Aug-2009)
    Filesystem label=RECORD
    OS type: Linux
    Block size=1024 (log=0)
    Fragment size=1024 (log=0)
    76912 inodes, 307204 blocks
15360 blocks (5.00%) reserved for the super user
    First data block=1
    Maximum filesystem blocks=67633152
    38 block groups
8192 blocks per group, 8192 fragments per group
    2024 inodes per group
    Superblock backups stored on blocks:
    8193, 24577, 40961, 57345, 73729, 204801, 221185

    Writing inode tables: done
    Creating journal (8192 blocks): done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done

This filesystem will be automatically checked every 22 mounts or
180 days, whichever comes first. Use tune2fs -c or -i to override.

Google would have given you that answer
There is really only one difference between ext2 and ext3, and that is that ext3 uses a journal to prevent filesystem corruption in the case of an unclean shutdown (ie. before the filesystem is synced to disk). That makes ext3 a bit slower than ext2 since all metadata changes are written to the journal, and then flushed to disk, but on the other hand you don't risk having the entire filesystem destroyed at power failure or if an unwitted person turns the computer off uncleanly. You don't have to check the filesystem after an unclean shutdown either.

Anyone know of an app for streaming movies to iPad\Galaxy from the Amiko Alien.
I tried VU+ player but I can only find the TV option unless I am missing something?

The disadvantages you mean. The journaling is an additional overhead so write speeds (programme recording) are much quicker to ext2 - google it !!

I asked a poor question. What i was really after, was in this system, does it really make a difference. I was being lazy about it.
so next lazy question. Should it be done with our kind of set up? (eg aa2+ and usb hdd)

Second dreamdroid. not as pretty as vu+ and annoying closes on back button press(there is an option of a warning) for android.
I was having real problems streaming to a device. The eircom router was the fault.
