Sweet. But €1809 for road tax. €59 more a year to tax the car that what the car is worth(asking).

That's true - but if you have the funds to do both (buy and tax the car) - you've got a very nice car - and still less then the depreciation on a new diesel.

1809 is taking the urine in terms of tax cost though to be fair

Its completely counterproductive - most irish people won't touch a car at that tax rate - so no extra revenue

Still a nice car though :D

Proves my point. 3 door looks great (even after all those years). 5 door looks cack :)

The Tipo is one of the few cars I'd disagree with you on the 3 door v's 5 door hatch. Side on, I always though the back window was too long and it ruined the lines, made it look too estate-ish, nothing a chunky C pillar couldn't have rectified.

I actually really liked the Tipo when it came out because it looked distinctive

They did start looking dated by 1995 to be fair - but it was a 7 year old design by then so youd expect that tbh.

Always thought the Estate version of the Tempra looked the best of the lot out of the Tipo and Tempra ranges (the Tempra obviously been an saloon and Estate version of Tipo)

Hence these cars being so cheap to buy, no one would consider one (unless they're an enthusiast/completely mad) very few will pay that tax on that car and because it's petrol it's further de-valued. It's a pity as I've seen so many cars of the same stature end up in the yard (ironically the one that sticks in my mind was a black 01 XJ like this one in show room condition inside and out that started up on the button :(:(:( ) but if that's the way the market is there's very little one can do to help move on these big engined barges.

    Such as this:

    NCT Till Feb, 1600

6 months tax.... Was it a PSV?

Indeed, I looked at the market in the UK for one and its the same. It seems that running costs (outside tax) is the deciding factor.
There is great value to be had for a years motoring if you were willing to accept the risk of not having tax for a year and punting the car on. (not that I would ever do that of course)
Although thats probabaly all sewn up now too.
Anyway - pity, as mentioned above, the gov are missiong out on revenue. Penny wise and pound foolish.

Speaking of. I knew they were the same alright.

2.0hdi's come in both 89(99-03) and 108 hp(99-04). Developed by ford/psa but use a 16v head and different turbo on the mondeo. Are these hdi's any good? Fixed turbo and 8v setup should be more reliable I would think.

I read somewhere before that they were developed by ford didn't know the finer details :)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSA_HDi_engine#2.0

....or to just believe all the aul rabble and guff about French cars.

I'd imagine LX is the spec and D is diesel
Its a uk spec either way.

Owner listens to Big Tom. That'd be enough to put me off.

Not really, they'd be a tad on the slow side but not a bad yoke otherwise. LXD is trim level. I'm unsure what that would include on a 306, it'd be low enough spec anyway I thinks.

A bingo mpv mutant with the same engine absolutely roars past my house every day on school runs and other curricular activities. I cower in fear when it drives by, knowing not a single car I have can touch it for refinement or power or smiles per gallon. Phwoarrrrrr

I was only jokin'. I just wouldn't buy one with that engine.

That 306 has aircon, cd, fogs and stuff, its relatively high spec for an old daysul eshtate

It was actually an option to have a bloody fridge between the two rear seats in those instead of a middle seat.

Excellent. I'd have that over a middle seat.

I would too, that middle seat doesn't look very appealing tbh.

I remember driving an auto 2.2l petrol one of these back in the day and really liking it. It's actually based on the estate platform for the Vectra and had nicer trim and plastics over the Vectra.

They definitely were sold here. I remember reading it in one of the papers when they launched here about a decade ago

Yep, the preview car that done the rounds at motor shows was pretty nice looking IIRC. There isn't much wrong with them other than the 2.2diesel which was fitted at launch but this was replaced by the 1.9CDTI after the facelift. It was a good car, build well but sadly let down by trying to be all things to all buyers.

Never appealed to me as much as the model it replaced. Thought they looked a bit too hair dresser but hey this is a sub €1k bangermobile.

Almost 3 months tax and NCT'd until 01/15. Has to be a bloody bargain @ €850-

    1.5 Diesel, NCT 3/15 - €800
    27735529.jpeg
The car to have if you want an economical. Obviously needs a bit of haggling though. The same engine was fitted to the Citroen AX, and in 1989 it managed to get itself into the Guiness book of records when it managed 100 MPG on a 1000 mile trip from Dover to Barcelona.
