Apologies in advance for my dumbass questions :o Can anyone please advise me of the following as I am think of ditching Sky and buying one of these boxes?

1 - Does the device contain an internal hard disk? If not I assume I can connect an external one to record?

2 - In order to receive Saorview channels I gather I need to install and configure the ''crossepg' plugin and configure it. Do I also need to connect an aerial to the back of the box to receive saorview channels?

3 - I think am reasonable technically competent ;) If I use the HDMU Enigma2 image with CrossEPG, CoolTVGuide, Autobouquets and Autotimers is that all I need to replicate the setup of a sky box?

4 - Has anyone gotton to the point on one of these boxes that everything is working the way they want it to or do you find you are constantly messing with plugins and addons. I really don't mind putting in the work initially but don't want to constantly have to mess around with settings if possible :)

5 - Should I wait on the next revision of the box before jumping in? Is there anything arriving soon?

From the very moment I installed TTGs Hyperion V3 image everything has worked better than I expected. I haven't found it slow at all, picture quality is excellent, RTE player works (picture could be better). I've only had one issue with it and that was when the volume control disappeared and I kept getting the menu every time I pressed. I just re-flashed the image and it is fine again. It's definitely the most user friendly image I have used to date!

What type of box do you have, I have the triple plus?

When I flash initially it can take up to 10 seconds for a command from the remote to register on the box.
Also, I am the only one whose box green screens on the RTE player and other plugins.
These things lead me to believe I may have different underlying h/w.

Other than the green screening I think the image is great as the TV functions work very well. Very happy with it and am hoping the next release of Hyperion will fix my plugin issues.

    - It has a HD for the OS but if you want to record you should attach an external USB drive

2 - In order to receive Saorview channels I gather I need to install and configure the ''crossepg' plugin and configure it. Do I also need to connect an aerial to the back of the box to receive saorview channels?
    - No, you need to feed in a UHF aerial for the Saorview channels.
The 7 day EPG for Saorview comes down through the UHF feed.

3 - I think am reasonable technically competent ;) If I use the HDMU Enigma2 image with CrossEPG, CoolTVGuide, Autobouquets and Autotimers is that all I need to replicate the setup of a sky box?
    - I'm not sure, I use TTGs image (all the plugins are packaged in it) with the Sky skin and its pretty much the same as Sky, however I have not worked out series link yet but I read something similar is possible with the Autotimer plugin.

4 - Has anyone gotton to the point on one of these boxes that everything is working the way they want it to or do you find you are constantly messing with plugins and addons. -Mine is not working 100% due to media players green screening, however as far as I can see in this thread, TTGs image is working more or less 100% for most people.

5 - Should I wait on the next revision of the box before jumping in? Is there anything arriving soon?
    - I'm not sure if an Alien3 is due to be released.

Answer 3 - I am only finding my feet here so it sounds like the TTGs image would be ideal for a beginner like me :)

What image is it? Your login details will be different depending on the image.

I posted this already a few pages back.

Download and install dcc (Dreambox control centre) to your pc, enter in the relevant ip addresses of your box and router.
Depending on the image you've installed,
    Username :root
    Password :pkteam (thetechguys image)
    Openarp (Championc image)

    I have the Amiko Alien 2 Triple Plus - 2x DVB-S2 1x DVB-T2.
Mine takes about 10 seconds for a command and about 8 minutes to fully load the image.

I have only experienced a green screen once on one of the plugins (EPG) but I can't remember which one it was.

ChampionC's image was great as well but I couldn't get all the Saorview channels to work and RTE player didn't work.

I am using the PKT Gold skin, I think the Sky Skin is too fussy!

After flashing each time the performance is extremely slow, but after while and after a few reboots the performance improves and it's very responsive.

Thats not right to be honest.
After flashing a backup it should perform exactly the same as when the backup was made, there should be no sluggishness .
Of course every backup is unique so you may want to make some setting changes to improve performance.

Mine is working the way I want it,its very stable ,as stable as the Dm800 receiver I had before but much faster.
The only slight things that are not 100% to my liking are the uneven audio levels on some channels ,the automatic volume adjustment plugin could be a bit better in this regard .The audio levels on some of the movie channels are far too low.
The other slight annoyance is the hard drive sometimes locks up when recording and the receiver has to be rebooted to resolve it .Its rare it happens ,and it seems to happen on a number of images and with different hard drive brands too.

Apart from these 2 issues ,the receiver works as well or better than my Dm800.

I've flashed TTGs image 5 or 6 times now and each time I flashed it its the same (can take up to 10 seconds for a button to register).
After the remote control setting is changed, EPG is downloaded and a few reboots later its not a problem and the image is very fast.

I flashed champs image once and found it very responsive right away, but I cannot tune Saorview so I abandoned that image.

Ok i managed to set up all. Now only one thing: is there any way to import my favorites from spark to enigma?

Nope, both are completely seperate to each other. The Alien 2 just gives you the option of running either side.

Ok then. My enigma came with some favorites and I would like to remove it all. But I didn't see that option. Can you help me out somehow?

You need to use Dreambox edit to FTP your favourites onto your laptop, edit them there and FTP the modifications back up to the box.
There are many posts on it if you read a few pages back, or else google Dreambox edit.

Just get one, get the sab on adverts, if you invest 200 you can it up and running on your sky sat, after a few months you'll have saved your money back.
You do need a USB HD or a flashdrive, no things don't work 100%. But it's getting better all the time. But you don't have to mess around with the stb. TSM is just the best thing ever. TSM is so good that I'm thinking about getting a dreambox for it, but also think that these boxes will overtake the dreambox.

The bad thing's are that the image's aren't very stable, the USB ports are poo, most of the software is not been made for it. For the outsider looking in, it looks like a mess, but for people on the inside they are enjoying something better than the subscription services.and save themselves over 300 a year minimum.

What image are you using? I'm using TechGuy's latest image and I had no problems getting the Saorview channels, also the RTE Player is working.

I couldn't get all the Saorview channels on ChampionC's image, otherwise it was excellent.

Hi. I used dogsettings to transfer favourites from spark to enigma and I have them in now but only folder name is displayed and instead of channel name it says na. Anyone knows is it possible to do it right way?

Hi. I am following Pog Mo Thon's guide to install Enigma2. I cannot get it to boot up. Do I need the exact 1.2.51 E2 Boot Upgrade for it to work ? It is not appearing on the Spark upgrade page. I have tried the other 1.2.51 version but Enigma2 is not booting. I am worried that I am after making a bollocks of it !

In Spark you should find the upgrade E2 plugin under MENU>PLUG IN. It's about item 10 on the list.
Make sure your USB is formatted to fat32 and there is no spaces or weird characters in the folder/ file names.

Got that far. Point the upgrade to the enigma2 folder and after about 30 seconds it says enigma2 upgrade success. Then it won't boot ! Tearing my hair out at the moment, been nearly a week of trying it !!

How do you mean it won't boot?

I take it you are trying to boot into enigma via the power off method, holding OK, power back on until you are giving the option to choose spark or enigma, pushing down and pressing ok.

Yes, exactly. Once I have clicked ok on ENIG it boots but hangs. I have since downgraded the spark software to 1.2.51 E2 Boot Upgrade as per instructions and it still won't boot up.

I would imagine I would not be waiting more than 5 mins for Enigma to boot up ?

Could well be the image you are trying. Try reflashing again, failing that, try Thetechguys image?

Ok I have tried flashing with two different images and Enigma is still not booting up. I have also tried to factory reset Enigma with the USB still in the box. I cannot see a way out of this, if anyone has any ideas please let me know !

To rule out plugin issue (I was not able get the e2upgrade plugin working properly initially) try champions suggestion below, it worked for me:
    championc wrote: »
I know it's the same file but it will NOT work to just copy it over. Take the WHOLE plugin folder from my link and put it on a USB stick and insert it into the box when running Spark. It will ask you if you want to install the plugins - say Yes.

So let the box / Spark install the plugins for you.

I have dine this on 8900/Alien1, Alien2 and Alien2+ boxes. Boxes did NOT need the 1.2.51 specisl version of Spark to be installed.

Failing that try TFTP to flash it via network cable. I think flexmurphy provided decent notes on this here previously..
