    Bright and early:

3 miles in 25.43. Recovery run. Fairly pooped this morning so this wasn't pretty.

    Today:

    8 miles in 1.04.

Good strong run. My attempts at running faster over shorter distances are really helping. my longer distance pace feels so much more comfortable. Very happy with the gradual progress im making.

2 weeks to my first race of the year!

    Today:

A soaking wet recovery run. 4 miles in 33 mins.

Nice run despite the weather. Stumbled across a fun run out at carlow hurling club. Terrible conditions for it but they had a bit of music going and seemed like decent atmosphere.

I'll keep a similar enough training plan going until the MSB patricks 5k Ive been following Hal Higdons intermediate 5km plan along with my Jantastic challenge. After the race I might have a look at a ten k training plan maybe. The ultimate goal is the dublin marathon. But I want to be in a good position starting a training plan for that.

Sub 45 Ten k would be nice. Sub 22 in Msb race is the short term goal. We'll work from there.

    Tonight:

    3.1 miles in 22.33. Average pace 7.19.

Training pb again. Started with no intention of running fast but felt great so pushed it a bit. Happy with the progress. But with 5km race Sunday week, my target of sub 22 is daunting! !

    Today:

    4 miles in 32.16.

Running down the canal in the evening when ireland are planning soccer is not a good idea!

    Legs felt good and fresh.

Recovery run. Zero energy. Really running on empty this morning.

    Today:

    5 miles in 41.15

8.14 average pace. Really good run. Legs felt good. Listening to the Joe rogan Experience. Sometimes its full of crap but I got a good episode tonight. Mind completely switched off.

Long run bright and early tomorrow.

    Today:

    8 miles in 1.10.

Started off with very heavy legs this morning. So im happy enough with the effort.

After the 5k next week Im dying to try to run a fast 10km pb. Feeling a training pb could be on the cards

Next week ill keep it slow in an attempt at a taper.

    Rugby time!

    Today:

    5miles in glorious sunshine. 41.59. Pace 8.22.

Running is good for the soul on a morning like that. Crisp and bright. Only gripe about this is that I couldn't stay out there longer.

    3 miles 26.13.

    MSB St Patricks 5km

Its funny how different you feel going into a race when you've really targetted it. Last night I had a dodgy stomach and then this morning I didn't know what to eat. Ended up just having a boiled egg and a banana!

I think my stomach was actually fine today but I was just real paranoid. Even went to chemist to get something to calm it but they were all closed. Basically told myself to cop on then and went down to collect my number. Busy spot in the mansion house. The mime in there was joking with me putting on a really sour face. So ill say that I had my game face on!!

I was early so I did some jogging around the green warming up. First time I've ever done that. Normally I wouldn't want to do that as id be afraid it'd tire me! Terrible fitness levels. So doing this was a boost. I felt more like a real runner if that makes sense.

Waiting for the race to start was sooo slow. I was hopping up and down on my toes for what seemed like an age. Then it finally began.

First k or two was fast. 6.30 fast. Which is unheard of for me. Hit a bit of headwind then and reality hit in. But that said I was keeping it around 7 for the next km or so. Uncomfortable, but then again its pb pace so thats not surprising.

At about the 3km mark I saw a girl I knew in distance. Slowly closed the gap and passed her. But then I was struggling. Back out to 7.30 pace. She passed me and I couldn't even hang on behind her. gap opened. Last km I gritted my teeth and just kept going. Coming up Baggot St I saw the finish point in the distance which gave me a boost. I also saw that the girl I knew wasn't pulling away anymore. COME ON. I dug in and began to close the gap. Actually got up to a sprint and passed her on the line. Elation.

At this point I almost got sick so I shuffled to footpath and sat on the ground to recover. F**ked but happy.

So.. the goal before the race was sub 22. I managed a 21.19. Delighted.

Really chuffed with myself. Hard work paid off. Really encouraging me to push on with training now.

    This morning:

    4 miles in 34.19. 8.34 pace.

Pretty poor run. Very lethargic. Ive been eating like a pig the last few days so its all self inflicted

    This morning;:

    4 miles in 32.13. Average pace 8.02.

Bit better than yesterday but that wouldn't be hard. Nice and bright out there. Nice to start the day outside in that weather.

Just ticking the box running this week trying to decide on next plan to follow. Possibly hal higdons intermediate 10km plan. id like to see some alternatives to that before I commit to it though.

    This morning :

    5 miles in 40.50. Average pace 7.45.

Turned out to be a real step back week. The irony is I feel terrible in comparison to weeks I ran more. When I run I have knock on effects of sleeping better, eating better, better energy levels. Worth remembering.

Decided my next plan will be kept simple. Increasing mileage to 30 miles per week starting tomorrow. Try to crack this early morning running too.

    This morning :

    3 miles in 22.47.

Any run where I get up before work on a Monday is a little victory considering all my failed attempts of late.

I had a good bye to crap food weekend. we wont mention it anymore as theres been too many false dawns but eating healthier is now a prime area of improvement.

Knees didnt feel great again today but im still putting it down to not being used to running straight from the leaba. a better routine with sleep pattern should help out with this.

    This morning.

A cold and wet 6 miles in 48.30. Average pace 8.04.

Got a bit lost on this one over near Irishtown nature reserve. Well not so much lost as just a not very runnable route involving soaked fields and climbing some fences. And a horrific smell.

    This morning:

    10 miles in 1:24. Average pace 8.27.

Started well but struggled towards the end. Only had a banana before hand which maybe didn't help with energy levels.

Strong wind and rain all the way out to the lighthouse at sandymount. So I was frozen. Nice relief when I turned for route back. All said and done that's my longest run in years so I can't complain.

    Today:

    9 miles in 1.15. Pace 8.25

A peculiar run. Started ok. Quickly went downhill pace wise. Mentally tired after a long week in work stressing over stupid stuff.

Then found a lovely forest trail to run on which brightened me up if not my pace.

Out of there back onto road with a sigh and lack of enthusiasm. Until a heavy downpour of rain which for some mad reason cheered me right up finishing with a burst in last two miles.

Ill never understand this running malarkey.

    Today:

A mile and a half warm up. Decided to do some track running as I wasn't in the mood for a plod. Got to st Laurence O Toole track and its all closed and fenced off. Pants!

Cue some jogging around. Ended up doing 50 metre sprints flat out in empty carpark. Maybe 12 or so?

    About a mile run home.

A mess of a session to be fair! And some tight hamstrings for my trouble

    This morning:

    3 miles in 24.11.

Left hamstring is veery tight. Hopefully the run will loosen it up. Foam roller later on legs in general me thinks.

    This evening...

    This wont end well...

    20 Squats x 3
    10 lunges each leg x 3
    45 second plank x 3

DOM DOM DOMs on the way tomorrow!! First time doing squats or lunges in months. Foam rolled too. The forecast is for sore legs, very sore legs. Much needed introduction of a few exercises to strengthen legs though.

    This morning

    4 miles in ?

Stopped garmin at traffic lights on the way back and must have forgotten to restart. Nice pace this morning. Legs felt surprisingly good. Out to Herbert park for a quick lap and back.

    5 miles in 39.21. Average pace 7.51.

Felt decent. Nice run over to the beach where I was bathed in sunshine! No sunburn but the sun always puts a smile on my face.

Hamstrings still a bit tight but seem ok.

    Today:

I was planning on taking a crack at my ten km pb. Haven't tried in a good while and felt my 48.44 pb was there for the taking.

So I went for it this morning. Plan being to try hold a pace below 7.30 miles.

Average pace 7.26. Ten km in 46.07.

What a great run. Pity I didn't get under 46 but im delighted with that!! Felt nice and strong finishing and I think I could knock maybe 30 seconds off that. Gosh thats not far off sub 45. How good would that be. For me id consider that as almost proper running! !

Time to watch the London Marathon!

Tonight gym. 1000 metre row. Followed by legs. About a gazillion squats. Walking should be tricky tomorrow! !

    Good bit of stretching after.
