On the road again, waiting in DFW airport for my flight to D.C. Then on to sunny Ireland :D
Left back that Altima to Enterprise, only 3000 miles on it (1000 by me) and the gearbox is doing strange things:eek: I pity the fool that gets it next;)

    Back to scratchy tomorrow :)

Sacrificed my lie in and went to lidl this morning to get the power washer. Came home, opened the box, and first off two parts were missing. Then I discovered it had already been used

Trust me to get the dodgy one. Brought it back, and got a refund. Seen a nice nilflisk one for about €20 euro more in a hardware shop, so will get that Monday. Sorry, had to rant about it somewhere :o

You're actually lucky because if you used that satanic brush on any part of your car (including the wheels) you'd end up with more swirl marks than you could wave a stick at!

You should really go all out and get a garage policy and plate. ;)

Garage policy not problem to get.

however plate not option, need to prove paying commercial rates on premises (or have planning permission), also plate restricted to legitimate motor business work.

    HTH dude ;)

They are very handy alright if you are constantly going to different places. My dad often goes over to the uk for work and he's always in different places. He has said a few times he'd be lost without the built in sat nav in the octavia. Where as we rarely use it here unless we were going to somewhere we didn't know the way to on a family trip or something like that which is rare enough. Is imagine you should get good use out of yours and the lifetime maps is a big bonus.

I seen a Dacia Dust buster driving towards me today. It was just coming towards from the Renault dealership (so not sure if it came out of there or was just coincidentally passing it when i seen it).

It was a black one, with a white bonnet and white roof.

Is this a new thing? Sport Duster or something? or is someone just in the early stages of 'boy racing' the most inappropriate vehicle they could find?

Don't want to bump an ancient thread so I'll stick it here: does anybody know why the price of petrol jumped by 3c a litre during the week?

Apparantly (from watching fox news) there is some Iranian embargo at risk next week.

First day driving the octavia. It's actually nicer to drive than I thought. For its age and mileage it's very tight to drive no knocks, rattles, play in the steering or anything like that. Done about 130 km in it today as I was in new Ross. It's not a patch on the newer one we have but then I wouldn't expect it to be for what it is I think its a nice car it's also great to have an arm rest again too.

God bless the arm rest :D Was down in Waterford today and met quite a few classic cars on the M9, I'm sorry i didn't go to the show in the RDS now :(

Anyone know when the silly barriers on the express lane on the M1 went in? This is after you go through the express toll, they have new barriers now at the toll booths, just as you are revving up to move!

Had a great time on the motorway today for a few mins when a gallardo came up behind us.
Now I was already tipping it, he came alongside.

All I can say is a gallardo at full chat at hectic speed sounds amazing.

    Bit of an experience :)

Slowed down when I did when coming off the motorway and gave it hell and the hazard lights :D

Thank you Mr. Gallardo man you made my week!

    Question lads.

I'm not 100% happy with my mechanic at the moment tbh, and feel that even when I want work done that he does the minimum when I'd be happy to pay for a bit more, in essence I think he does what has to be done.

Got a recommendation for someone this week, close to me, and pure alfa/fiat specialists, I'm thinking of getting my mech to check out my potential alternator issue, then them, and see the verdict.

If verdict is the same, I'm thinking of moving mech after I meet the new guy

    Does that make sense?

It does, theres a guy out the road from me who literally my entire village goes to, and would defend him to the death of they had to, so i went to see him about something before, he made it worse, so i went to a guy who had his company advertised on done deal, two cars later and he's never let me down, absolute hero of a guy

Absolutely - if it were me - id like to have the best mechanic available to work on the car.

    Why settle for second best???

What I like - is a mechanic that listens to what you have to say - and does the work that you want done or needs to be done - to a good standard.

Would also rather pay more for a really good guy then pay less for someone average tbh

In fairness though - mechanics are probably used to the normal irish approach - where motorists just want the bare essentials done that are needed to avoid breaking down or pass an NCT.

I also think its a huge advantage if your dealing with a really good specialist for the type of car you have.

    Spraycans.

I'll hopefully be bringing it to the meet.
Can't put up pics as it is at my parents house (due to my lack of insurance yet)

Doesnt seem to be any rust at all, the usual spots are clear like sills etc
