did you take a look inside. so condition on outside not great? I see its a manual as well. prefer auto if i can get it. but i wont be too choosey

Manual is actually better on the X type as far as I know - as im led to believe the auto boxes can give bother.

Maybe not such an issue at bangernomics level where you just want the car to drive well and be in decent working order as it would be some years back if you were buying one for 12 k.

Something to be aware off at the same time I think

The 5-speed Ford 5R55N autobox was used on all the V6 Jags until 2003, when they switched to a six-speed ZF unit. The 5R55N has been known to get a bit grumpy without regular fluid changes. Having said that, my 3-litre S-Type is manual, and I love it. The shift feels just like an old Granada. Ka-CHONK!!

Lovely D reg Mondeo 2.0 LX (one of a series of 10 2.0 LXs registered together - 04D1907 to 1919, interestingly 04D1916 was never used)

I would assume the original owner had it a few years (they tend to hang on to stuff) its got 4 owners now, yours for €2000

I wonder if the seller has the original steel wheels and 3 hubcaps?

I thought I had the only manual S type!

The 2.0 would be worth a fair chunk more but for a 3.0 one with no tax and test it would still be sale proof at €700!

Absolutely - in fact even with a fresh test - and even tax it would still be very hard shifting.

If you're one of the few people willing to pay 3.0 tax on a car at this end of the market - you would probably be more inclined to go 5 series BMW, GS 300 or Jag of some kind.

Youd need to to be a Maxima enthusiast to be even thinking about that imo*

*nothing wrong with that at all - its just the car makes no sense otherwise???

No sir! As it turns out, she just got a new clutch kit from Jaguar, as well as a release-bearing and a new slave cylinder. It now drives like a new car after 142,000 miles, with light, silky-smooth pedal action and a gearshift slicker than owl-shit. Mind you, the downside is that much cost me well over a grand, but should be good for another 100,000!

Good point. They made a lot of sense as luxobangernomics about 5 years ago when you couldn't get a decent 5-series, Jag or GS300 for bangernomics money. Now it's a bit of a pointless car. The 3l might only make sense as a taxi, as Colm suggested

Anyone answer his question about the age a car is still allowed to taxi?

I have an opportunity to purchase a top spec 2002 Volvo V70 2.0T Auto with 80k miles, NCT to July and tax to September for the trade price of 1300 euro. It needs a clean up and polish, as well as a dent pushed out on the side and has no service history. Overall though it's a nice cruiser with full leather, electric glass sunroof, winter pack (heated seat + headlamp washers) and a Dolby Pro Logic sound system. I'm thinking of taking a punt at it with a view tidying it up and maybe giving it to my father to use.

    How does it sound?

    I'd question the mileage tbh.

Loads of tax, go in with €1100.

It's a trade-in where I work and has had the same owner for many years, who is known to the company and purchased it pre-owned through them years ago by the looks of it. It's just I couldn't find any sign of a service book.

That's what I'm thinking. 1300 euro isn't doing me any favours.

Sounds like something I'm looking for... especially the auto.

Could it be taxi'd or is it too old?

Newly registered taxis have to be 3 years old or younger now afaik.

That sounds unnecessarily young. Any link, Kaiser D?

I can't find a link where it states it, but I'm 99% sure. I'll ask a friend tomorrow for confirmation. Plates can be transferred to older cars and I think thats how most people do it, besides renting. This just explains the 15 year rule, really.

I think 7 years is for a plate transfer.

I'm saying this because not that long ago a friend of mine who is a taxi driver bought a late W220 CDI with intentions of taxi'ing it but it was too old.

A W220 is at least 9 years old now though :)

Unkle, I'll ask about the regulations tomorrow and report back. But for now,

    2001 Rover 75 V6 (JDM?)
    2.5 V6, auto
    No miles listed
    NCT 2015
    €950
This looks very nice. Colour combo is lovely.

I need to find out if that 75 is a JDM model. There was a batch of cars sent in 1998 but I don't know if the 75 was ever sent when it was produced. They all came back (HHR at least) and were know for their huge spec list and larger badging.

Very comfortable car to drive, the 75. No known issues either with the V6 petrol one like that. Probably get it for about €700. That's not much more than a month or two depreciation on a complete heap of sh1te like a brand new Kia or Huyndai :D

    Looks like km clocks alright.

That's news to me. What goes wrong with them? Or is this another baseless comment of yours?

Something would have to be right with them in the first place, in order for something to go wrong in those soul destroying, practical, misery machines.

That doesn't really point out anything wrong with them

    '02 punto
NCT 8/14 and a bit of tax
    74k

    Are these really that bad?

And still people take opinions to heart.... Their opinion, why should it affect others :pac:

Not gone on Korean stuff myself buuut I would like to see how much abuse one will take. I nearly ended up with a free hyooondie accident once too....

Not really. Aim for a 16v model, 8v's tend to have a few more issues with the throttle body, thermostats etc. Power steering motors are the main bugbear and watch the coolant like a hawk (change it every 2 years with paraflu) otherwise not too bad for tippin about

That Rover is outrageously cheap for what it is.

Yep turns out they were sent out in 1999/2000 but the BMW importer went bust and they had to be sent back. They have a huge spec like rear blinds and other small bits. I'd have to look it over but I think it is indeed a Japanese car. Certainly worth buying by an enthusiast.
