Does any of the Dublin lads fancy car pooling to some these events? Don't mind driving up to Dublin then we could take it turn about driving to each event?

Can't this time around Kieran. But for any of the ones were it makes sense in future, I'd be on for it.

If there is a slot available I can give a lift this time.
Only thing is I need to head straight back as I have to let herself off the hook with the little fella by 4.

I'm probably about 16ish. Played with some boards guys over xmas and steveob was one my playing partners then. If he's off 13 then I'd be another couple of shots back behind him.

    As per society rules.
    • Golfers with no official GUI shall be reviewed and then given a provisional handicap to begin based on the assessment. Complete beginners shall receive a handicap of 18 and somebody who has played a limited amount of golf but who does not obtain an official handicap will receive 14. The committee feels this covers most abilities and can give a very good reflection of a more accurate handicap going forward. Please note : This society is about having fun. Honesty and etiquette are valued much more than prizes so it’s up to all golfers to be honest about their abilities when being reviewed.

As you've played a bit of golf already we'll start you off on 14. It'll balance itself out quick enough the more you play. If you get a GUI in the next while will you let me know please?

Lads, if there is a spare spot, I'm a late entrant!

Coming from Dublin (D3), can drive or share

    H/c - 13

Would probably play as a visitor, as I dont normally get too much time for societies outside of my own club.

Had a look but couldn't see a stroke saver or course guide anywhere - has anybody seen anything they could share?

This will give the new Powakaddy a nice test.. It breezed through it's first few 9 holes...

Looking forward to playing and meeting some of the boards members. Looking forward to playing with a card in the pocket again, I don't think I have played in any kind of a competition in about 6 years (minimum)..

Only played there the once Steve but I will be leaving the Go-Kart at home and carrying the bag on Saturday. This time of year I find it's nearly hassle bringing the cart.

Its not too bad at all. As part of my "get fitter 2014" I've decided to carry my bag instead of battery trolley and first time doing it was in esker hills 2 weeks ago (had to go check out to make sure place was in good nick, cough cough!!) and it was no problem at all. As denisoc16 said its an awful lot handier this time of year too - the trolley paths in carton were full of mud last Sunday so its easier avoid them carrying the bag.
Now to leave the chocolate bars out of the bag..........

Straight over the trees, no playing the safe lines, it's the tiger line for me :D

I'll probably have a "tiger drive" too, 3 from the tee it is...

It'll be the carry bag for me too, way easier than a push or pull this time of year, but I don't have a moto one.

Hope you can you get a pull trolley there, I have serious doubts that my bag was designed with carrying in mind :(

Also anyone got any tips on the course?

    hahahahahaha, excellent!!!!:D:D:D:D

    But true!!

the only thing i remember from esker hills is that the last time I was there I made 3 birdies. Now this is not normal for me, but I remember birdieing the par 3 downhill, I drove it onto the green on the par 4 10th (again totally not normal, but nailed it) and birdied the 14th with a blind shot around the corner!

I probably get a birdie once ever two rounds, but thats my memories. Its very very hilly, but will carry.....

The chicken curry, half rice - half chips, is a must have.
Someone may offer some course advice.

If I said that it's a course that you don't need to use the driver (especially the soc tees) as much then you'd only be laughing at me as I hit it about 14 times during the round...even though I shouldn't :o

No need to comment Greebo, I know I'm wrong ;)

Lads, anyone want to car share from Dublin? I can pick up folk and drive or vice versa.

I'm based on Clonliffe Road in D3, home of Garth Brooks.

All joking aside, from the society tees - if you have a club that can go 200 yards , use it. That will work on most holes.

That is probably the secret to most golf courses from the front sticks. The problem with this is 2 fold.

    a) Many lads don't have a safe 200 yard shot
    b) We are mad about hitting driver.

First hole for example can be played 7 iron , 7 iron, 8 iron - But very hard to discipline yourself to do that.

So - hit your best club in the 200 yard range if you have one.
Going for the 10th is a form of Irish madness. Here's looking at you captain :)

Something like the Belfry is it? I made that carry, all be it from the forward tees and I was 10 years younger!

It is well reachable - but not worth it - imo.
I played a lay up last time - then hit wedge in water anyway :)
