I power down the box, insert ni card and power up the box.
The box recognises the NI card,I then select itv2 in other channels, leave for a few minutes, take out ni card and put in roi card, but the box does not see the roi card. Then the only way the box will see the roi card is by powering down and rebooting with the roi card in it.
this is how i have done the trick several times before but this is the 1st time the box does not see the roi card after doing the trick.I have cleaned the roi card and the box can see it,but only after power off and then on.

are you on 105 when you take out the ni card
do you put it on standby while switching cards?

Here's how I do the Full Trick:
Plug out box and plug it back in again with NI/CI card inserted.
Once box has rebooted and fully loaded up the EPG change to 105 (channel 5).
Remove NI/CI card and reinsert ROI card.
After approx 2~4 mins the ROI EPG is loaded up too and you have the hybrid EPG

BTW if the ROI card is not being recognised change it to a sub channel like 106 and tell us what the on screen message is.

Thats a strange one all right. I've done the trick many times and my ROI card is always recognized unless it needs to be cleaned which yours does not.

I think thats probably your problem - you shouldnt be in other channels.

As others have said try 105 for example. Any channel thats on the basic entertainment pack and displaying on the EPG works for me when putting the box into / out of standby.

Putting it on Sky news always works for me.

I have added 2 steps to the sequence above that works fine for me.

    Hope that sorts it. :)

    thanks to all.
muffler i tried your suggestion but after 10 minutes the box could still not see the roi card!!
the message reads:there is a problem with your viewing card
please ensure it is inserted correctly....etc,etc...

    but it works after reboot!

btw the box is an 890 and the s/w is ending 49.08P.

My card is a Midlands one & frequently after a reboot the same thing happens to my roi card. I just clean it & keep putting it back in. Eventually the box recognises it. Sometimes I redo the card trick to get it to recognize the Irish one again.

i have tried with both cards now and the box will only recognise a card that is in the box when booted--it will not see a card inserted while running or in standby.

When this happens with me I reboot the box with the ni card and tune to 501 while on the ni epg, go into standby swap cards, come out of standby and after a few minutes the trick epg will appear.

If you take your RoI card out do you get the "please insert viewing card" message then does it go away when you insert the NI card or even if you just remove and then reinsert your ROI card does the message come and go away when you put it back in.
I wonder could it be the switch at the back of the slot that detects whether a card is removed or inserted. If you dont get that message that could be the problem.

the box will only recognise a card if the card is in the box during boot.
if i remove the boot card and reinsert it again, the box will not see it.
if i boot with roi and then swop to ni,the ni card will not be seen.
    and vice verse.

Im not sure what you're doing but DONT swap the cards unless its part of the booting or rebooting process.

Im getting the impression that you think that you can simply swap cards when the box is up and running and the EPG will change to suit the card. That wont work Im afraid.

It sounds like its that switch at the back of the card slot that might be the problem because if you remove your sub card you should get the message telling you to insert it then when you do put it back in the message should disappear and I've heard of those switches going faulty before.

pbarr might be onto something.i did the trick a friend's box with my cards and everything worked as normal.
Will have to look in to this more.

Just checking, I thought I read here somewhere, that if your box goes into standby mode at night time, you lose the Blue button trick, when you being the box out of standby mode ? My box went into standby overnight, but when I started it up this morning, I still had UK channels via the Blue button, is this normal ?

Standby mode is fine. Eco mode where the box shuts down completely (red light) is when the trick channels are lost.

I took the box apart, blew the dust out of the card slot, put it back together and everything is now working as before.:)
Thanks to all for your advice.

I've lost ITV HD from the blue button trick. I've still got CH4 Hd. I've reset with the cards a few times but no luck. I can see that ITV Hd along with CH4HD is ticked in Favourites when the UK card is in. Any ideas?

Same here it must have moved frequency, I notice that bbc2 England is no longer on CH 102, & this has not moved Frequency.

I wonder may this be the end of the blue button trick?

Is itv hd still viewable in other channels?

ITV1 HD Meridian (21020) and Central (21030) recently changed to 11097 v 23000 AFAIK these will not be available manually on Sky boxes because of the 23000 SR.
London and Granada are also on this new TP but the old freqs haven't changed yet.

BBC Two is gone off my Full Card Trick too (CI card) and I tried deleting it and retuning it in case it had moved frequencies. All other channels are still there. That's a bit of a mystery now to be honest.

BTW it's inevitable that we'll eventually loose all HD channels from the card trick as they move to DVB-S2 transponders, some ITV regions already have their ITV HD's on these transponders hence some people on this thread don't get ITV HD with the trick.

Of course this could be reversed if Sky added the facility to tune these channels into 'Other Channels' but I wouldn't hold my breath...

I never had bbc1 or 2 in the 101&102 slots using the NI card. They're both down in the 900's if I ever want a break from ulster's farming program(often).
