Could somebody pease give me a quick guide for dummies for recording from the box and playing content back. Not getting anywhere with it. My dad picked up this box before Christmas and every visit home I have to try and do something else for him. Wish I'd found something simpler for him! I'll have a quick look through this thread now to see if there's anything I can use. Thanks.

External hdd formated to EXT3, plug into box, mount, set recording paths and away you go

That's probably the problem so, thought it would work as is. I'll give that a go now, thanks.

This website has installation files for Samba.

I used 'samba_3.6.9_sh4' which contains the fileserver binaries and 'SambaServer_131212' which is the Python script to create the Plugin Menu entry. Both are provided as an archive of the directory structure (.tgz) and as an 'ipk' for installation.

As explained here, once installed the 'SambaServer' folder is in 'SystemPlugins'. Then to add the UI I used 7-Zip to unzip 'SambaServer_131212' until I had just the directory structure. Then drag the usr folder into root (/) in FileZilla and all the files and directories will get put into the correct place.

    Using the Samba UI:
To delete a character from a text field you are typing into press the 'PAGE-' on the remote control to delete characters to the left and 'PAGE+' keys to delete characters to the right.
To delete all the text at once... arrow up to get out of the text field then arrow back down into it so that it is all highlighted then press '1' on the remote.

    Flex

will be trying this later. will update. Tried the sambaserver plugin available on through "download plugins" in the menu option. couldn't get the box to appear on the laptop. But bear in mind my previous stupidity, so will check things again.
Thanks for the help. much appresiated

That is only one of the two required plugins. You need the 3.6.9 sh4 one too.

It's pre-installed and working on my Champions Image

Got round to installing Samba server as per Flex's instructions. (after actually watching the tv instead of tinkering with it).
Thank you very much.(thanks to championc for the pointer re front end of plugin. wasn't aware of that there was 2 parts to the menu downloadable plugin)
in summary, two downloads needed. the samba 3.6.9 and sambaserver 131212. install both. open the plugin and rename the workgroup.

Now, have the box tuned and set up to my needs. Very happy the way it has turned out. The family will be delighted that they can now watch the tv without me constantly rebooting it. (and I can get to bed at a decent hour. i blame the router for all the late nights!)

If anyone wants to use the CoolTV Guide 'Sky HD' skin but can't use the Sky HD Skin itself (due it lag ect...) then swap out your cooltvguide folder in extensions for this one https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t16qdh4f2c47od3/j7Y86idflK

I've just modified it so that it doesn't rely on the xml or icons from the Sky HD skin. Cool 3D needs to be set to 'MyDesign' and guide on Cool Nice Guide. Screenshot attached (I have CoolPico Item Height set to 33,Event 30 font set to 25 and Timeline Font set to 24)

I somehow managed to screw this up. i deleted the CoolTVGuide folder and then dropped your new one in.

The EPG has changed to the blue in your screenshot, but none of the other affects have happened.

When you say 'swap' the folder, what do you mean exactly? Drop the folder onto the existing one or something else?

    TIA

Delete the entire CoolTVGuide folder in extensions and then ftp my one over. What skin are you using? Kerni? Also make sure that you are on the right guide, i.e press the 'Guideswitch' button until you get to what was the 'cool nice guide'. You'll also have to restart enigma for it to kick in.

Still no luck getting it the same as your screen shot.

I'm using the SkyHDMod skin on an OPEN AR-P image. I've set cool 3d to my design. My EPG now looks like the attached.

The background colours have changed but that's about it.

Ahh right, the sky HD skin actually has its own code for cool TV guide in its skin.xml file which gets preference over the xml that's in my cooltvguide folder (kerni doesn't have this code so there's no issue when using it). You'll have to just delete this code from the sky HD skin xml. If you don't know how to do this I'll do it and upload the edited xml. Also you look to be on 'cool multi guide' and not 'cool nice guide'. Press 'guideswitch' once more.

Just seen the sky hd skin through the screenshot,

    Wow,

AA2 never ceases to amaze me!

    I'm currently running hyperion 2,

What would be the preferred next step?

    TIA

    Thank for the reply Gazedor.

    I'll give this a go myself. If you can just give me a few pointers;

    1. Where the xml file is
    2. Which code to remove

I'll do the editing in notepad++ before moving the file back to the stb.

Not at home but from memory its in usr/share/enigma2/skyhdmod. In the xml you'll find some code that begins with screen name = Cool Nice Guide. Delete that down until you see the next 'Screen name=' header (and of course take a back up of the file before editing!)

I installed Champion's January AR-P image over the weekend and I have to say I'm quite impressed with its responsiveness and stability. Very fast, very stable. I'm quite happy with it altogether.

However, it looks like it's not able to play mp4 files very well. There's a little freeze every few seconds which makes watching the film a bit annoying and also causes the audio to be out of sync. MKV files play smoothly and the pause, fast-forward and rewind functions seem to work much better than on Hyperion and HDMU (but haven't tested extensively). Also, noticed that if you play one mp4 file, then stop it, and then try to play another file, sometimes the box crashes. Has anybody experienced these issues as well?

So, overall, the experience has been a definite improvement. However, there are a few issues with playing videos in some file formats. So far I've only seen issues with mp4.

EDIT: My box is an Amiko Alien 2.

Cheers for that, but it doesn't fully work for me. it pulls in my channels from my stb, i rearrange them as to what i want i upload, but then it tell me that upload failed and to check ip settings, but i know everything ip is fine, as i done the ip test in the DBedit program, plus it pulls in the channel list from the box. so it is connecting. any help appreciated

An improvement over Hyperion 3 and HDMU in general performance is it ?

I never installed Hyperion 3, but did use Hyperion 2, and yes, a big improvement over it and HDMU. Big time!

Almost there with this but not quite. I've edited the skin.xml as instructed.

It's looking like the attached now.

The channel picons are still appearing and the text at the bottom isn't 100%, the Red 'R' is out of place and the bouquet name isn't there.

I had to adjust a few of the font sizes to make it readable. Would the size of the TV matter?

No biggie, i've the original xml saved if required.

    TIA

    Interesting
I cant say I found much difference in performance between Hyperion 3 and AR-P ,both are very stable and fast.

What is TSMedia like on it?

Haven't tried it. Actually, I don't have it installed. Didn't use it much in Hyperion 2, so I'm not sure if I'll actually bother to install it.

I'm still having trouble getting all the Saorview channels. Which method did you use for scanning terrestrial, channel number or frequency?

I actually didn't change any Terrestrial/Saorview settings from champion's configuration as I'm also on the Three Rock mast/frequencies.

You should use the frequency number and set the bandwidth to 8mhz scan the 2 frequencies separately - set "clear before scan" on the first and not on the second.

There are a number of us who are having problems with this, switch to Hyperion seems to be the solution at the moment if the problem continues.

    +1

I gave up on the soarview tuning issue on ChampionC's OpenAPR image.
I even tried the workaround of deleting /etc/enigma2/lamedb file and rescanning, but no joy.

Just installed TheTechGuy's HyperionV3 image last night and it's looking good at first glance.
I just need to use DreamBoxEdit to remove the channels that are encrypted/I don't have.

But thanks to ChampionC and TheTechGuy for all the work!
