Is it just me or do they both sound like porno tv channels?

So I sold one of my friends a GameCube

He text me saying it wasnt reading disks so I knew what the problem was straight away, had to open it up and do that little laser screw fix. So I called out to him to fix it and I brought my spare one just incase (that I repaired myself a few weeks ago). I was getting no joy from his one and then he told me "Ah I gave the lens a clean with cotton wool". So I gave him my spare one and took the broken one

Now I have a GC with a bolloxed lens, any suggestions of what I should do with the system?

    :D Thank you

Just be aware there's some compatibility issues, but seems a decent offering of compatible stuff - http://wiki.scorpei.com/index.php/SD-Boot_compatibility_list

Can you use them without an Action Replay disc? Will definitely be picking one up if you can.

Doesn't that need a disk to initiate the loading from the card though? Or is there a work around for that?

Hmmm, looks something similar to the Dreamcast SDLoader - which also requires a disc :(

Maybe a modchip would get around that?

That Nintendo Fusion thing, total dreaming I'd say. This bit in particular sums it up for me:
Pallab Chatterjee, a seasoned chip engineering editor and founder of the Silicon Valley Trade Council, said, “A couple of things don’t make sense.” He noted that the Adreno cores are part of the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip set and are not offered or licensed to AMD. The ARM architecture currently cannot run PowerPC code that IBM uses in the existing Nintendo products. That would mean a 100 percent loss of legacy code compatibility, Chatterjee said.

The 3DS and related handhelds are all ARM processors, but ya seems a bit early for them to be throwing in the towel on the Wii U.

If you replace the firmware chip on the Dreamcast to one that's writable Dreamshell can install itself directly to the firmware to replace the Dreamcast BIOS entirely.

Means you can power on the console and immediately be in Dreamshell.

Oops, maybe so...I'm not up on them at all barring their existence :o

I had mainly meant the claim that it had an AMD Adreno chip. May as well be calling it the Microsoft Playstation.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. Maybe you can do the same with a Gamecube?

I've a whole lot of respect for old 2D coders after the last few days. Spent a while coding a 2D collision engine that was tile based which worked well but then I found if stuff moved too fast it would pass straight through objects which is fine if you manage everythings speed but I wanted to create something that would involve a lot of fast moving elements.

Spent most of today learning vector maths and putting together a vector based collision engine. Seems to be working now but I have to salute the people that worked this out. I've a lot more respect for the coders of games like Sonic 1, Yuji Naka really was a genius programmer.

Anyway I'm running my scrolling at 4 times a tile size and it's still picking up all collisions so fingers crossed I've found all the bugs.

If anyone is interested this was the biggest help:

    http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/131790/simple_intersection_tests_for_games.php?page=3

It's not as well explained as it should be but it was the easiest one to wrap my head around once I figured vector maths wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.

Nice to see the good folks at Game Sack talk about the X68000.

I always find this show educational, but good god, these boys are boring. They've got zero character and don't look comfortable in they're own skin. Having said that though, they really know their stuff.

Yeah I've always found the Game Sack stuff rather boring as a result.

A little off topic but I was listening to some SID chiptunes earlier and got listening to my favourite Ocean loader.

Been looking for a decent Ringtone for my Nexus 5 so I decided to make one.

Just saw this graph in an article about the WiiU.

Interesting to see. Funnily enough, even though I do own all these consoles, the only one I bought on release and not second hand was a Wii!

I bought everything from the GameCube up at launch.

Wasn't difficult to get a gamecube that day... I remember getting upset that I couldn't get a purple one in the first shop I went to but was able to go to another shop and get it. (Needed to colour co-ordinate with my GBA)

It's an interesting trend, but if you include the Wii, it changes drastically obviously.

Also WiiU has only been on sale for 1 year. It might struggle to reach Gamecube levels though, Gamecube sale dropped off spectacularly very quickly, same could happen to WiiU.
