op zebo is not on your list for ireland? is he injured?

Zebo just came back from injury and was left out of the initial squad to prove his fitness. Same for Bowe, Gilroy, Ryan and Fitzpatrick.

Decided to post this here, because it's own thread might have attracted some non rugny board attention and just lead to a flame war.

The 6 nations game against England was watched by more people than the soccer qualifyer against Austria (which were the two highest respectively for each sport). Now still not as many people as Euro vision, but I'd have been of the opinion before that soccer was very much ahead of rugby in Ireland in terms of numbers of supporters (even if they struggle to fill the stadium more than us) that may have changed.

(Ps, as I wrote I realised it was potentially a discussion that warranted a thread. I'm not sure.)

Bowe's most likely not going to be available this weekend

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/rugby-union/25711067

Won't leave a lot of time to stake a claim for the Scotland match

Reckon it has to be Fitz and Earls in his absence.

For me fitz has the best form. Bowe fit or not.

It is. The soccer national team under trap just didn't inspire people to tune in. Also look at the numbers of Man Utd., Liverpool, etc. fans compared to the number of '...'ster/connacht fans.

As for Ireland winning the six nations. I can't see it. I don't think Ireland can put together 5 good performances in a row. France are the favourites but it'll be close and I don't see anyone doing a Grandslam.

It's not as if kidney was exactly inspiring Irish people to tune into the rugby either. Like the game against Austria was the important world cup qualifier, 6 nations game against England happens every year.

Now I do agree that British clubs have a huge following. I wish we had stats to compare h/cup views to champions league, but they're on different broadcasters.

I imagine a Ireland v England friendly in football would garner greater numbers than its Rugby equivalent. I'd certainly watch that as a fair weather football fan. I didn't bother watching the Austria match personally.

How can France be the favourites and not Ireland when in recent times they have struggled just as much/ if not more than us with the consistency of their performance?

I would suggest that England are the favourites based on recent form.

However I am hoping Ireland show up this year with 0 injury's (SOB aside) and put in 5 performances like they did against NZ. There no reason why Ireland wouldn't be able to do this considering 13 of the 15 that started against NZ will most likely start against Scotland. IMO no other 6 nations team could live with the intensity of that performance, it has to be the blueprint.

the man is absolutely critical to wales BUT hes getting a lot of injuries due to the sheer physicality of his game. again its the same welsh problem, strength in depth. there are certain players wales cant really do without, faletau, roberts, davies, north and halfpenny are top of that list. all world class players but the replacements are certainly not. I would add a note of caution for us though...IF the welsh do get their full stength side fit for dublin and we go to conservative in our selection...their backline could possibly tear us a new backside

I think that's huge and a serious blow to the French hopes.

    Yeah, pretty big loss alright.

Pascal Papé will replace him as captain.

Saw someone in a Scottish forum saying that if Ireland show up, we'll beat Scotland by 30 odd points, but if we don't it could be a repeat of last year. We really should look to put a significant amount of points on this Scottish side. I think we'll beat them and our true test will be against Wales the following week which will show if we have managed to get some consistency as I believe it was 2010 since we last won 2 six nation matches in a row.

Judging by the H Cup, probably the most successful ever for Irish teams, you'd have to feel Ireland have to do very well. I'll go for champions, probably 1 loss along the way.

If history has thought us anything, the HCup means nothing to 6N form. Otherwise Ireland and France would win it every year and Wales wouldn't have a sniff.

The Welsh players have never really bought into their franchises, and a lot of them are playing abroad. On the otherhand, the H Cup is a very good guage of where we are at, and the confidence levels will have to be very high.
