Just after getting one of these letters. Anyone know if the work one will be offered be actually in the town where they'd be living or would they be expected to travel and if so how far?

Reason I'm asking is I have a child with a disability and along with having numerous hospital appointments etc I need to do the school run every day. I've no problem doing this TUS thing but evenings or night work is all I can really do given my circumstances. I wonder if they will take my circumstances into serious consideration if I told them or will they just put me out to work in some place far away and make my life even more difficult as it already is?

they would be based in your home town, you should be able to get placement to work around your timetable,

When I joined they asked me to choose my own hours, if I needed to change they said just let them know a week in advance.
They know people are been forced into Tus and most supervisors are former Tus participants so they are generally very understanding.
Requests for work equipment seem to get ignored and payslips are a bimonthly thing, if your lucky.

Do you mind if I ask, but did you feel demeaned by the experience, or did you feel you were doing something worthwhile?

Yes it is. I was sent to do some work in a house last week . It was for a drug addict. My understanding was that tus was set up to help elderly and less able bodied people with maintainence. Not a free for all. The junky in the house start giving out that she was told the work would be done 3 weeks ago. Needless to say i turned and walked out and she,ll be left waiting.

Thanks for your reply. My partner spent a year on a FAS scheme a few years ago. It was cooking for meals on wheels and a daycare for the elderly. He loved it and felt it was worthwhile. However, he did feel that it might be better to give someone the dignity of a proper job, rather than having all CE Scheme participants doing all the work. Like everything, there are pros and cons.

I have received a letter from my local social welfare office about missing my tus interview, wasnt able to attentd spoke to tus and they said they would reschedule interview, didnt receive a letter about the new interview and have now just received this letter sayin i need to be at my local office on friday, failure to attend will result in my payment being suspended, just wondering on how to approach this? should i phone them up and explain or just go to the interview and tell them there, quite anxious its gonna be a bit of a brutal dressing down resulting in my payment being stopped so just looking for some input thanks!

Has anyone had a one of those letters from the social welfare while they've been on the Tus scheme - the letters to prove that you are available for/seeking work etc. or are they done away with while you are on this Tus scheme?

    Just wondering...

You wont recieve any letters form social welfare while on Tus im on it 6 months now. Its separate to social welfare like a FAS scheme really.

    DowDow

My interviewer when i started Tus explained that i was lucky i showed up as the one's that did'nt would have there payments cut/stopped.
Just explain you are willing to work on Tus right away and that you did'nt recieve the new appointment time. If you bring letters that you are looking for work or emails they might not be that hard on you. Good luck anyways.

I mentioned my situation to the lad at the SW office today when signing on and asked him if he thought TUS would take my circumstances into consideration etc and he told me that mentioning it at the interview could quite possibly be shooting myself in the foot when it comes to them making a decision on whether or not in their opinion that I am actually making myself available for work at all. Needless to say I'm up the walls with worry now, losing my welfare payment would literally be the final nail in my coffin.

Have you tried contacting tus asking them why they sent your details back to SW even though you are willing to be interviewed?

Go to the meeting and tell them what happened. They usually have a strong feeling for when you're telling the truth. Don't be intimidated by them. You've done nothing wrong.

thanks for the replies people, i have another question, i am in the process of organizing a move to england for more opportunities etc but for reasons out of my control it is crawling along and taking ages for me to get moving, should i mention this to the people i meet at DSW im happy enough to go and do tus really but i will certainly not be living in ireland for the entire course so is this worth mentioning? am i just wasting a postion for someone who could benefit or should i just do tus until i move? dont want to get in trouble with dsw for trying to dodge this when im not but at the same time it is pretty pointless for me to start a scheme when i should be gone within the month, i am looking for part time work here in the mean time but no joy

I wouldn't mention anything about it. It's still in the future and could change.

no its a 100 percent going to happen its just i dont have a nailed on date, i missed the initial interview because i was in england at a job interview and told tus this so maybe sw already know? i dont really want to lie to anyone but kinda dont want to get dragged down this road for no reason

TUS=Totally Useless System,it is nothing short of massaging the figures,a joke.A friend did one for the year and spent that time looking out the window, when signing back on,the cheeky chappy (who's aunty Mary or uncle John got him the job) in the SWO was nothing short of derogatory,my friend felt so demoralised,.The female staff were yapping away behind the counter and having a gand aul time, but the guy was a proper jumped up little BxxxxX.
Was there a job offer-no.Simply an office as with 1000s of others manipulating the system

All these schemes tus gateway and god knows what else are designed to manipulate the numbers so enda can announce every month that unemployed figures are down-they will be down but thats due to our young emigrating and government forcing us to do these ****e schemes,

true but cant help but feel my time before my move would be better spent going in the gym eating well building confidence and preparing to get a new job over in england rather then going through all this nonsense to pick up litter for a couple weeks? dont get me wrong i have little to no say in the matter anyway just want to be prepared for the meeting incase i meet a demon

youll have no say it in dowdow-if u want your dole you have to do it.its pointless worrying abt it

Wanting to eat healthily and go the gym does not exempt you from participation in TUS. If you have proof of your intention to emigrate, flights booked, proof of interviews etc i imagine they will not place you.

i didnt expect it to exempt me from participation, i expected leaving the country within weeks to exempt me from it, and anyway i was only asking how to approach this meeting, not how to get out of tus, if you read what i said i actually said i had no problems at all doing tus, just that it was pointless (more so then usual)

All you have to do is show the social welfare the letter you have from your new employer in the UK and they will take you off their TUS applicant list! Good luck with your new job!

Wheter you have a job lined up it dosent matter. As long as your claiming sw even if ur going to move to uk they will give ua start date. If udecide to move on then ur exemt.

well surely you see that they cannot take your word that you are emigrating, and thus exempt without proof of a job offer or flights. Everyone would say the same thing if that was the case to get out of it.

just an update: went to the meeting today, the woman was very helpful and understanding and kinda hot too (bonus) and is rescheduling my tus interview and is going to get back to me so i will go to that and see what is available and just do that til my move is finalized, actually looking forward to it now if i can do something worthwile and helpful to myself and community so should be sweet. also for anyone else she said failure to attend will result in my payments being frozen for 9 weeks

Has anyone that has been taxed since the beginning of this month sorted it yet?
I'm going into our local office today and I'm trying to get a payslip so I can visit the tax office and see what's going on. I find it hard to believe that I have to pay tax on €208.
