You'll all remember that it wasn't until 2006 that the Lotto numbers started going up to 45. From 1994 onwards, the numbers only went up to 42. This was also the same time they introduced the "Quick-Pick".
Those distrusting of the new technology came to the conclusion that there must be some way to "beat" the machine, and so would base their choices on binary sequences. The numbers 1,3,5,7,9,11 are obviously the first six odd numbers, but they were also a popular choice amongst these "theorists" because they are the first six numbers whose binary sequence ends in '1', and they presumed that that might be a likely choice for a computer generated selection.

This week's numbers were a somewhat less popular choice, but in a similar vein, 5,13,21,29,37,45 are the first six numbers whose binary sequence ends in '101'*. Of course, back when these methods of "prediction" were first invented in 1994, there was no number 45, so some people just took the first digit of the 45 and used 4 instead.
Evidently, some people have kept up the tradition, so after ten years of weekly lottery tickets, their method has finally paid off...

(*Also, incidentally, the first six numbers which can be written as the sum of 5 odd squares, ie.
    1+1+1+1+1=5
    1+1+1+1+9=13
    1+1+1+9+9=21
    1+1+9+9+9=29
    1+9+9+9+9=37
    9+9+9+9+9=45)

You could be on to something there.

It is probably also one of very few draws where all the numbers were odd. There may be a number of people who use only even or only odd numbers on the basis that it cuts the odds in half. I checked the last 8 Lotto draws, 24 results in all, and this is the only one which has all odd numbers. There are none with all even numbers. It could be very very rare.

I'm pretty sure someone said the number 04 was drawn this week. The odds of all numbers being odd is about 1/100 (slightly less for all being evens due to the fact there is one more odd number to choose from).

But none of this matters an iota for the probability, why anyone would pick all odd numbers or all even numbers because it cuts the odds in half is nonsense.

No matter what 6 numbers come out, you have the same odds (about 1 in 8.1 million) of matching all 6. However, as someone alluded to earlier there are certain combinations that would result in more winners (more specifically the 1-6 order which would result in hundreds, if not thousands of winners).

You're right 4 was one of the numbers, I was going by the list on that previous post. What I meant was that whenever all odd numbers are drawn then someone with all odd numbers will effectively have to match 6 out of 23 numbers, not 6 out of 45. Would that be right? Doesn't alter the overall odds but when one unlikely event occurs i.e. all odd numbers drawn, then having only odd numbers in your selection makes you a possible winner whereas anyone with an even number loses.

Essentially yes, if you pick all odd numbers and the draw produces all odd numbers, your chance of winning increases. But anyone who picks numbers on this basis thinking it will increase their odds has a very misguided view on how statistics work. In fact, in my opinion, anyone who plays the lottery thinking it's a fair game has a misguided view on statistics, but that's me going off-topic.

That's where I'm stuck. I can get as far as the third one, and then I run out of fingers.

If you don't know how to do that, you should probably stop using a computer.

€600k would easily pay off the mortgage. That'd do us.

€3m+ would help us sort out other family members.
You mean like Sopranos "sort out" ?

I've a cousin who never buys a round. He'd be first to go.
