I have a friend out there.

Apparently it was already semi-legal. (legal under one jurisdiction, illegal under another), he's well looking forward to this though.

I would love sometime in the future to be able to go into a coffeeshop in Ireland and buy a nice bag of weed. Don't know if I'll ever see it in my lifetime :(

Interestingly it seems the new shops might be having some banking problems, ironically thanks to federal law

How many politicians are willing to even discuss the issue here?

There might be a shortage of cannabis there actually
How many politicians are willing to even discuss the issue here?

Excluding those who's only discussion of it is a resounding no?

Going by Ming's recent effort not very many. Most politicians in the traditional parties would regard it as political suicide to be anything other than anti.

Its been legal in the states of Colorado and Washington since the beginning of this year.

Tomorrow's milestone is the opening day for the Shops selling it to open.

Here in Washington State we have to wait until June for the shops to open. They've handed out over 350 licenses so far.

$196 an ounce. Why is it expensive?

Will be interesting to see by how much theft goes up next year in Colorado

    Weird isnt it?

Here's the website of just two of the retail shops opening at 9am tomorrow in Colorado. Check out the Products page.

How on earth are they ever going to stop these "products" from spreading all over the country? And the world for that matter. I mean one little bottle of "tincture" isnt going to be found very easily by Customs anywhere. And a bottle of juice? Its not like the old traditional sniffer dogs would be very effective anymore.

And here's the website of one of the manufacturers of edibles and drinks:

I know nothing about hash or weed or whatever. Smoked it twice and beer is just my preferred thing. But if its so much more expensive won't that mean your local drug dealer, who sells for much much cheaper, is still going to be in business? :pac:

I mean isnt one of the points of making it legal to try and stop the illegal drug trade. How you going to stop it if you make your legal option so expensive :pac:

    Theft?

Given that weed may replace some of the alcohol and meth abuse you'd expect theft to fall wouldnt you?

Ive read prices will be between $140 and $200/oz (about 100-140 euros) in Seattle. Which is competitive with the "unlicensed" price.

$196 an ounce. Why is it expensive?

Because one of the main talking points that proponents of legalization use is that the government will take in all this new tax revenue. This is only possible if some of the states legalize while the majority don't and the federal government could still crack down. If it was legalized nationwide, large scale commercial production would make marijuana no more expensive than tobacco and most people don't smoke 20 joints a day. If you charge too much in taxes it just leads to a black market like there already is with tobacco, so generally all the revenue predictions are based on it not becoming fully legalized. Kind of like how all the jails are going to be empty even though it is close to impossible to end up in jail for marijuana possession alone and it is still going to be illegal for those under 21 which make up most of the users anyway and those most likely to get caught because they are smoking in public or in cars and not homes like older people.

Everything on that website seems to be written by someone high on drugs..

It's depressing that we have so many old-fashioned people in charge of the country.. those that will just oppose everything based on their conservative biases :(

I think I remember one FG TD saying that he'd welcome a full and frank discussion on the issue. Though he qualified that with saying that he'd support the party regardless of his own views.

What a wonderful democracy we live in.

Actually MadsL out of interest, what are your views on public cannabis smoking given your strong views on public tobacco smoking?
