Cannabis sales legal in Colorado as of tomorrow

Probably one of the more interesting dates in relation to the 'War on Drugs' is tomorrow when over the counter sales of Cannabis become legal in Colorado. A good few 'coffee shops' opening up will bring a new meaning to the state's 'Mile High' nickname. It'll be interesting to see how the likes of the DEA and various other federal agencies will react to this to say the least.

Going by Ming's recent effort not very many. Most politicians in the traditional parties would regard it as political suicide to be anything other than anti.

Its been legal in the states of Colorado and Washington since the beginning of this year.

Tomorrow's milestone is the opening day for the Shops selling it to open.

Here in Washington State we have to wait until June for the shops to open. They've handed out over 350 licenses so far.

How on earth are they ever going to stop these "products" from spreading all over the country? And the world for that matter. I mean one little bottle of "tincture" isnt going to be found very easily by Customs anywhere. And a bottle of juice? Its not like the old traditional sniffer dogs would be very effective anymore.

Ive read prices will be between $140 and $200/oz (about 100-140 euros) in Seattle. Which is competitive with the "unlicensed" price.

Because one of the main talking points that proponents of legalization use is that the government will take in all this new tax revenue. This is only possible if some of the states legalize while the majority don't and the federal government could still crack down. If it was legalized nationwide, large scale commercial production would make marijuana no more expensive than tobacco and most people don't smoke 20 joints a day. If you charge too much in taxes it just leads to a black market like there already is with tobacco, so generally all the revenue predictions are based on it not becoming fully legalized. Kind of like how all the jails are going to be empty even though it is close to impossible to end up in jail for marijuana possession alone and it is still going to be illegal for those under 21 which make up most of the users anyway and those most likely to get caught because they are smoking in public or in cars and not homes like older people.
