Alright, So getting myself a second 120GB SSD and a new case(Fractal Design Define R4). Need more SSD space and I'm sick of my cheap case and its crappy cable management options(Could also be that I'm just crap at cable management but I'll blame the cheap case for now) I also like the fact that the Define R4 is a silence optimize case :)

The R4 is sooo quiet, I'd say you'll like it.

Nearly all motherboards nowadays will support RAID 0 and 1 at least. Many support 5 and 0+1 and 10 as well.
I don't see it on the specifications directly, but have a flick through the manual to see if it's there.

I should really stop going on adverts altogether. Who in their right mind thinks a rig based around an I5 3570k and a 660ti is worth €1300? I built a rig with the same CPU and a 670 for less than that when those parts were new. I've no idea why but I find it incredibly irritating.

Well, there are many fools out there and on both sides. Some people will pay stupid prices and some people will want stupid prices for their stuff.

I still love all those GTX 680 out there. People really need to get back to reality when they sell second hand components. Its funny how they were selling components for same price as retail and after price drop in retail their prices were still pretty much same, because "thats how much they payed for it and feel that much it is worth".

Then you got buyers who dont know much about PCs and just see 1000eu for pc and think - well it has to be good for that price!!! Its sad really as they learn the hard way the way PC gaming works.

Edit: on same topic. Is ebay is even worth taking seriuosly anymore? It looks like overpriced shiet compilation by big seller and Scam. There are barely any people ever selling stuff privately anymore.

Yeah, it is. Not for PC parts in general since many websites are doing crazy discounts with free deliveries, but for rare stuff like korean monitors, outdated parts (e.g. PSU PCB/LCDs if fixing a TV/monitor... etc) and tools that would be hard/expensive to get elsewhere (e.g. ESR meter)

    Hey guys,

As there is no "Questions and Answers" Thread here I've got a quick question. If I wanted to build a new PC would this be a decent time to request help with a build? As in, are there various sales on parts etc at this time of year?

You might manage to pick up a deal here or there pixmania ,overclokers, scan. If time is not an issue. Best time to build a pc is around july. New CPU and Gpu releases push prices down of last year's range. That's just my own opinion..

nvidia new cards are out in spring '14, so there should be a price drop then?

I agree. Easter - July seems about the best time. There's often new releases in Spring and prices go up in Aug/September to gouge students looking for computers. Prices tend to be good for October or so but parts go up as there's demand for machines for Christmas.
Computer hardware doesn't really get seasonal sales, so there's seldom deals in January unless it's something like keyboards.

My mobo Asus 990fx usb keep on shutting down power to my mouse MS3 func is that normal? or how can I figure out what is causeing it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Try the mouse mouse on another computer & try another similar mouse on that computer. Could be just that the mouse is faulty.

You'll need to grab one separately.

Interesting bug... my PC freezes if I watch twitch.tv recorded broadcast or netflix on any browser fullscreen or not, but only If the actual movie is on screen not in background.
Here's the funny part - If I play game in fullscreen on main monitor PC won't freeze and I will be able to enjoy movies no problem. As soon as I close the game while movie is running on second monitor PC freezes. Event viewer shows nothing.

    Details:
Secondary screen is plugged in top DVI socket with VGA converter, main screen is plugged in bottom one with DVI only.
BIOS/chipset/audio/GPU drivers I use are updated, even switched around nvidia drivers, nothing helps.
    Reinstalled silverlight and flash.
    Haven't done memtest yet.
CPU clocked to 4.5Ghz, tested 4h

    any ideas?

Lightning deal on Amazon at the moment; Crucial M500 480GB for £190.... Should I go for it at that price, I was thinking of picking up a SSD anyway for a new build.

That's amazing. Go for it! I paid 125 for a 250GB EVO. An M500 is slightly inferior (only slightly), but a higher capacity probably has better performance. So for that price, if you want an SSD, go for it.

Ya, I wanted a Samsung Evo but then this popped up. Do you think 480GB is a bit of overkill though?

It depends. If you have the money, go for it. Honestly though, a 240 M500, or 250 EVO would do the the job. 30 GB for OS and progs, 200 gigs for games (10 games or more depends on what you play). Sorted.

Feck it, I went for it. Should last me awhile anyway.
